How many here believed, down deep in your heart that the end would come in 1975?
by James Mixon ini was straddling the fence on that one, just in case they were right.
i don't recall.
telling anyone this is your last chance.

I did at first, I converted in 1969. As it got closer to 1975 I started to think the end was going to come, not anytime soon anyway. The further away from 1975 the less Armageddon seemed real. -

Sorry Cofty, I think I helped derail this thread with discussion of cancer research and my cat, but people should watch the video, it's a very good, basic explanation about one part of genetics that anyone can understand. -

What went wrong in your congregation?
by The Rebel inthe target is converts.. why does it seem such an outrageous aim for a congregation to recruit new converts?.
in my old congregation, the enthusiasm was there but the knocking on doors produced zero " baptisms" in my final years.. a) why so little interests?.
b) was it the internet ?.

Most JWs only go door to door because they have to, not because they want to, they don't enjoy it, and are not good at it.
Door to door sales is very difficult in general. People are either not at home or are very busy and are suspicious of anyone coming to their door.
Most people either have a religion that works for them or are not interested in any religion.
Most people do not know what Jehovah's witnesses teach, and nothing people usually say at the door informs them. Most people think of them as magazine salesmen.
If people do know anything about Jehovah's Witnesses, it's that they don't celebrate birthdays and holidays and attend hours of meetings every week and have to go door to door every Saturday. Who wants to sign up for that?
Promises of a paradise earth seem unrealistic, the illustrations in the magazine of children petting lions seem corny.
If anyone is taken in by the sappy illustrations of shiny happy people, they soon learn that this paradise comes at the cost of the violent death of most of the earths population, which is not an appealing message.
The internet makes it very difficult for the Watchtower to hide their history of bad date predictions, problems with child sex abuse, and abusive shunning policies.

I used to live in a small town, which seemed to have a robust budget for the police and fire departments. I was driving down the road and came a cross three cop cars, two fire trucks and a paramedic. As I drove by I looked to see what horrible thing had happened to cause this kind of response. It was one drunk pedestrian, who was badly failing the sobriety test.

How are you spreading TTATT?
by vinman injust wondering if anyone has used any underhanded ways of spreading ttatt.
i mean, has anyone made up business cards or tracts and spread them far and wide?
i would love to engage in this "alternative witnessing".

I have asked repeatedly to be put on the do not call list, but they still keep knocking at my door, so I will give them a good reverse witness when then do. Despite the fact that I am open about the fact that I am apostate, they will usually stay and listen to me. I have also been approached in my car while eating lunch, they got a good talking to also. -

Cancer, diabetes, etc. I doubt it though, that the medical field is going to invest the time and money this field deserves. There is no money in taking care of people. Modern medicine does not cure root causes, it manages symptoms.
Actually they are very close to a drug that will harness you immune system to fight cancer. Currently your body does not recognize cancer cells as being foreign, the cancer cells fool your immune system into thinking they are just normal cells. The drug binds to the protein on the cancers cells, which then makes them visible to your immune system.

I find genetics fascinating. It's not always the gene, but how that gene is expressed.
I have a cat like the one in the video. She is a tortishell dilute with white. Both torties and calicos have one black color gene and one orange color gene, and as they said, are almost always female. In Lizzie's case she also carries the dilute gene, which distributes the color more along the hair shaft, making the color lighter, grey and peach instead of orange and black. She has one white spotting gene. White is not a color gene, like black or orange, but something that overlays the color, no color equals white. If she had two white spotting genes, she would have more white and the colored patches would be larger, making her a calico. You can see where two two colors switched, often it is down the spine, and down the front of her face. She has what they call a split face. Some split face cats have two different color eyes, it is somehow connected to the coat color.
She is also the smartest cat I have ever known. She does a number of tricks, likes to steal things and is always trying to think of ways to get me. She lays in wait under the bed and grabs my ankles, and sneaks up behind me while I am sitting on the couch and smacks my head. She will patiently wait for me to get in bed and run up the moment the covers start to come dow, reach her paws in and goose me, then run off like a bat out of hell. I'd like to know what gene causes that.
