EPA CLIMATE CHANGE FACTS
The major scientific agencies of the United States — including the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) — agree that climate change is occurring and that humans are contributing to it. In 2010, the National Research Council concluded that "Climate change is occurring, is very likely caused by human activities, and poses significant risks for a broad range of human and natural systems". [1] Many independent scientific organizations have released similar statements, both in the United States and abroad. This doesn't necessarily mean that every scientist sees eye to eye on each component of the climate change problem, but broad agreement exists that climate change is happening and is primarily caused by excess greenhouse gases from human activities

That's like people who say we don't have global warming because there have been horrible snow storms in some areas. But warmer water means more evaporation, more moisture in the air then hits cold air masses from the north, so worse snow storms.
I don't know why people can't just accept what 99% of scientists in the relevant fields say about it, that global warming is real, it's man-made and we need to do something.
Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.

Just two weeks in our new home and the knock at the door happens!!
by truthseekeriam injust relaxing with my morning coffee enjoying looking at the pictures fipper shared of the camping trip when the dreaded knock came.
of course the dogs beat me to the door followed by my daughter trying to catch them, she looks through the giant peep hole and waves me away saying "its them.
" i almost just walked away from the door when i saw the sweet face of a 5/6 year old little boy with his mom and dad and couldn't resist talking to them.. i opened the door and smiled and said jehovah's witnesses?

Good for you for taking back your power and not answering the door. You specifically asked them not to have the elders come, how dare they show up at your door? I had the same thing happen, I gave them a piece of my mind. I also asked to be put on the do not call list, good luck with that, half the time they knock any way, they seem incapable of consistency following directions. Telling them I am an apostate and giving them a thorough reverse witness didn't help either.
The "come back to Jehovah" thing always annoys me. They do not own Jehovah, they just think they do. You may or may not have left Jehovah depending on whether you still believe in him. What if you just decided they had left Jehovah because they protect pedophiles? Who are they to say they know better than you? I know she means well, but it's obnoxious.

I wasn't calling anyone on here a left wing nut. Was genuinely asking as the only other place I heard this was on Facebook from a extreme radical leftist who happens to routinely share false information in the form of memes.
i question everything. Excuse me if my asking for sources stepped on any sensitive toes.I don't know why it was deleted. I had posted a meme about Kim's marriages on another thread, but I didn't really think your comment was directed at me, and it wouldn't have bothered me if it had been. It's funny because your comment made me realize I hadn't actually checked before posting to be sure the info about her many marriages was factual. Posting things without checking sources is something I criticize others for, but I didn't do it this time. Fortunately it was factual in this case, but it's always better to check.
You are right to question everything and my toes are just fine.

A ship (no matter how big) will ultimately sink if it has a hole
by iconoclastic inhumanity is like a ship, and holes are our hobbies (lust, greed etc.
which are fondly renamed as each one likes) which always have been outperforming what science could accomplish!
most of the greater or significant scientific achievements started from 19th centurymay be with the commercial transmission of electricity!

I think Icono's ship has already sunk. -

Suicide Prevention Counseling
by MrCellophane inin the 1980's when i was an elder, i don't remember the society providing any guidance to elders on suicide prevention counseling.
i realize much has changed since then.
can any current/recent elders update me on what the current position of the local elders would be if approached by someone in the congregation contemplating suicide and seeking help?.

This is a subject near to my heart. I knew quite a few JWs who committed suicide, my own daughter attempted twice.
I agree with Steve that it's impossible to know for a fact if the JWs have a higher suicide rate, but I think I can say from experience that their teachings and practices are often not helpful to those going through mental health issues. I can't blame the religion for my daughter's issues entirely, she probably would have had some issues no matter what religion she belonged to. But I also think it did contribute to her problems. I feel we were lucky to have made it through those years alive.
The religion engages in black and white thinking, they use guilt to manipulate people and their shunning practices are harsh. The elders might mean well, but seeing everything as a spiritual issue is not helpful to people who are suffering from depression. They are trained to determine repentance when dealing with issues of sin, when someone having mental issues might not express repentance in the way they expect, or might be too depressed to say what the elders want to hear. Some people take things to heart more than others, being disfellowshipped might be the end of the world to them, especially if they lose their entire support system because of it.
Someone who is a minister or counselor in a church would be expected to have a four year degree and advanced training or go to seminary, because it's important to know how to talk to those undergoing problems, the last thing you want to do is make The situation worse. The Watchtower is more interested in determining guilt and getting rid of those they deem unrepentant, they don't really seem can concerned about the impact this has on the individual.

It's my own fault for reaching out. I KNOW better!!! I set myself up for this, and as expected, got let down. So really, the blame is mine.
It's not wrong to hope your mom would care that you have a serious illness, so don't beat yourself up for thinking that, any decent parent should have cared, no matter what.

eems like Davis got her Reasonable Accomodation after all ins-spite of how much Vivian knows about how the US government is run and me being wrong 100 percent of the time.
What reasonable accommodation is that? She is not allowed to interfere with her deputies giving out licences, she could just have done that in the first place. It sounds like she is the one who made the accommodation.

((Hugs)) I'm sorry your mother let you down. It's true that for a JW their religion is more important than family, but that doesn't make it any easier to take.
I feel for you, I have some serious medical issues myself, so I know what you are going through. I have learned to take it one day at a time and to think positive, even when it's hard. It's often not what happens to you that is hard, but how you feel about what happens to you. You can't change the condition, you can change how you look at it. I highly recommend meditation and keeping a personal journal. I try to remember all the good things I have in my life, if I focus on them it makes the bad things more bearable.
