Arctic Has Gained Hundreds Of Miles Of Ice The Last Three Years

Red shows the September 2012 minimum extent. Green shows the current extent, which is likely the minimum for 2015. The Arctic has gained hundreds of miles of ice over the past three years, much of which is thick, multi-year ice.

2012 was the year with the most melt. We are currently in fourth minimum place in the last 35 years. It's compared to 1980 that the Arctic has lost 70% of it's volume. It's half as thick now as it was 35 years ago and it's not getting any thicker.

It's the big picture that counts not a period of time of only 3 or 4 years. This video explains it:

Perry where did you get that graphic? May We see its context please?

That's like people who say we don't have global warming because there have been horrible snow storms in some areas. But warmer water means more evaporation, more moisture in the air then hits cold air masses from the north, so worse snow storms.

I don't know why people can't just accept what 99% of scientists in the relevant fields say about it, that global warming is real, it's man-made and we need to do something.

Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.

Nevermind I hit that tiny little article link. Perry are you serious? That claim is by a nobody and that graphic looks like it's from a WalMart sale GPS. Are you being paid by OPEC? Why post that drivel? LisaMarie and VI hit the nail on the head. You are one strange cat.

He got it from Steven Goddards site which is typical of all 'skeptic' sites in that they ignore the big picture (35 years of satellite data for the Arctic Sea ice) and keep shuffling the recent past.

As for the quote box saying that the Arctic has gained "thick multi-year ice" that is an atrocious lie. This year has seen the near disappearance of ice thicker than 15 feet.

As you can compare the ice thickness charts below for 2012/09/08 and 2015/09 there's a greater area of thinner ice for this year compared to the great melt (In area only) of 2012. Measurements are in meters (3.28 feet per meter).

    EPA CLIMATE CHANGE FACTS

The major scientific agencies of the United States — including the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) — agree that climate change is occurring and that humans are contributing to it. In 2010, the National Research Council concluded that "Climate change is occurring, is very likely caused by human activities, and poses significant risks for a broad range of human and natural systems". [1] Many independent scientific organizations have released similar statements, both in the United States and abroad. This doesn't necessarily mean that every scientist sees eye to eye on each component of the climate change problem, but broad agreement exists that climate change is happening and is primarily caused by excess greenhouse gases from human activities

It's tragic that people keep putting their heads in the sand. Instead of taking rational steps now that would be relatively painless, they will wait until its too late and changes will be hard, painful and expensive.l, and posdiblyvtoo late.

It's like failing to fix your roof, even though the roofer said it leaks, becayse you don't feel like, spending $5,000 right now and your neighbor thinks it looks fine, so you wait until the rains come and spend $25,00 fixing water damage and a new roof.
