One Year Later - A Thank You to Tony Morris.
by cappytan indear anthony morris, iii:.
i wanted to send you a note of "thanks" on this special day.. why is this day special, you may ask?
one year ago today, you, tony, woke me up to the fact that the governing body could not have jehovah's blessing or direction.. last year, on november 8th & 9th, 2014, the united states branch visit was broadcast to over 1,000,000 jehovah's witnesses across the country.. as i sat at the kingdom hall listening to the "historic occasion," i was ignoring certain doubts that had surfaced in the few months prior.

Well put Cappytan. Perhaps in years to come we will look back and realize this was the turning point, the beginning of the end. I hope so. This leader of the Watchtower showed all Jehovah's witnesses what he was, a petty little tyrant. A religion facing huge problems with money, that has the lowest retention rate of any religion, that has been accused of protecting pedophiles, chooses to speak out on the evils of ......tight pants.
Truth really is stranger than fiction.

JW Religion same as Stock Market/Gambling (Concept)
by Da.Furious infor the last few days i was discussing with a colleague of mine at work about the stock market and how some people, even when losing money, they will hold onto their shares because someone said they will rise again.
this may lead to lost opportunities or even losing all their money instead of de-risking and offsetting loses by buying another stock, in other word jumping ship.. this got me thinking about jws (knowing that i am still in).
took one step back and looked at our family and what we have done by sticking to this religion.

They understand human nature. The more people have invested in a decision or belief, they less likely they are to admit they made a mistake, even to themselves. It's easier to keep hanging on, hoping for a payoff than admit they made a mistake and cut their losses.

Brian Williams should interview Ben Carson
by Simon injust imagine the crazy stories they could invent together !.
ben carson has to be finished as a candidate doesn't he?
can you imagine him being the republican nominee?
-
LisaRose
The republican party is in trouble when their two leading candidates are delusional narcissists. Having been a JW I get the cognitive dissonance that would allow someone to believe the things they seem to believe, but I can't imagine either Carson or Trump running the country. Both have excelled in certain areas, where they were in a controlled environment and where they were top of the food chain, but neither has an ounce of introspection, or any awareness of their own faults. They are good for the interesting sound bite, but that does not in any way indicate someone who is ready to lead the country. People want easy answers and these two give it, but it's not that simple. -

I gave the elders some ammo to use
by atacrossroads ini was having dinner at olive garden with my cousin who was disfellowshipped for apostacy.
a holier than thou pioneer couple saw us.
if that was not enough i saw her take a picture of me with my cousin.
-
LisaRose
Oh you evil hussy, having dinner with a relative, how dare you!
If it were not for the fact that these clowns can cause you to be shunned by your family it would be funny. I think most normal people would be shocked that in 2013, in a civilized country, an adult person would be shunned by their family over having dinner with a cousin, because that cousin decided to leave a religion. It's absurd, only highly indoctrinated cult members wouldn't see how ridiculous it all is.
This is the problem with fading. Depending on your circumstances, it sometimes means you have to live a life of secrets, or else be constantly looking over your shoulder, wondering when you will get outed. Only you can decide if fading is worth it to you, you might be able to lie your way through the JC, but then you will have to live like that, pretending and hiding your true feelings, in the immortal words of Sweet Brown, "ain't nobody got time for that!"
I couldn't do it. My JW brother friended me on Facebook and I tried for a time to maintain two lists, one for non JWs, one for everyone else, but it was too much work, so now I send everything to everyone, whether it's my Halloween outfit, Christmas pictures or whatever. If he doesn't like it, that is his problem, he can unfriend me, I am fine either way.
Do what you have to do.

Do You Think 10% Tithing is Coming?
by xjwsrock infirstly, there are cash flow problems in wt town.
i don't think it's necessary to list all the cutbacks and layoffs, but there have been many.. their thirst for money seems higher too in my opinion.
more entitled may be a better way of putting it.

Well, they are damned if they do and damned if they don't, aren't they?
They have to do something, I wouldn't put it past them, but it's a complete reversal of everything they have ever said about donations, so it will cause a stir. People are already giving huge amounts of personal time and energy to the Watchtower due for meetings, field service, study and congregation duties, with not much coming back in the way of moral support or spiritual sustenance. Many don't make a lot of money, tithing will be a hardship for a majority of JWs. Some may well decide it's just not worth it. They do risk people leaving or giving up and donating nothing, they have to be aware of the possibility.
I am sure many people have already had doubts because of recent events, you have to wonder what will be the tipping point, what one thing will cause enough people to become disgusted and leave that it puts them in a death spiral? How many are already only staying because of family? How many have doubts they are keeping to themselves? How many will leave if enough family members leave?

What is eternity? You're on the checkout line at a supermarket. There are seven people in front of you. They are all old. They all have two carts and coupons for every item. They are all paying by check. None of them have ID. It's the checkout girl's first day on the job. She doesn't speak any English. Take away fifteen minutes from that, and you begin to get an idea of what eternity is. -

I wonder, if when someone they know to be a "good" person decides to leave -- not because they've been offended/stumbled, or had an affair, or started smoking, or wanted to become a wealthy ceo -- what does that do to a still-in jdub's thinking process?
It stops their thinking process cold. Due to cognitive dissonance they cannot believe that anyone would leave for any reason other than bad conduct. That's why they get the deer in the headlights look, their brain cannot take in the idea that someone would leave because they just plain don't believe it. They usually conclude you were lying or didn't mean what you said. That's why they invited Cognac to the meeting, they cannot believe that she meant what she said, as they can't put her in the "evil apostate" category, therefore she is must be just mistaken, therefore going to the meetings will fix it.
I have told JWs that came to my door that I am an apostate, but because I smile and am polite they seem to just ignore that, they just don't believe me. -

Has anyone here run for a political office now that they are out of Jws ?
by troubled mind ini am thinking of running for alderman on my city council .
the mayor had a meeting with me yesterday and is anxious to replace the alderman in my ward .
she liked what i had to say at a council meeting a few weeks ago during public comments .
-
LisaRose
Um, does being president of my HOA count? Just joking, but if that interests you, why not?
I live in a small town and we had some shenanigans going on that convinced me that you do need to be involved and it does make a difference. A city councilman was instrumental in having the city start a low income housing project using state redevelopment money plus their own money. The only problem was he owned the company that was going to get the contract to manage it, he claimed it was owned by his daughters, who were college students. He got sick (since passed away) and then things really went haywire, the recession hit, redevelopment money dried up and the city couldn't even finish the project. It sat for six years, a blight and a monument to greed, it's only now getting completed.
So if you think you can do some good, why not go for it?

Missing Friends.
by Resi init's been a long time since i posted.
for a brief recap, i have an aunt who is one of jehovah's witnesses.
when i was really sick, i sought out their group because i remembered the support my aunt had and how they were like a second family to her.

I am sorry you were treated that way, it was very hurtful. Although it's good you never got dunked, what kind of a stupid, f'ed up religion wouldn't let you get baptized because you were sick and missed some meetings? Most religions would have been happy to have you, they wouldn't criticize you for being sick, they would bring you soup. They shoot themselves in the foot by being so stupid, it's no wonder why they are having money troubles.
I know it's hard right now, but you are young and will meet new people and the pain of being treated as disposable will fade with time. I have been out so long I hardly think about it anymore, I've made and lost friends since then and made new friends again, that's life and there are a lot of great people in the world, just keep looking until you find them.
