You are correct in that shunning people for simply choosing not to be Jehovah's Witnesses is cruel and pointless. You are deluded if you think the Watchtower will ever change this. They know they will loose a good portion of their members if they were not blackmailed into staying because of the threat of being cut off by friends and family.

Old Letter to the Governing Body
by WITNESS-FOR-WATCHTOWER-REFORM inthis is an older letter i wrote to the gb in october last year in regards to their policy around shunning of dissociated ones.
the letter doesn't focus on the disfellowshiped, but am in the process right now of writing to them regarding their recent watchtower on shunning disfellowshipped relatives.. the letter i wrote back in october rambles on a bit, but wanted to express my frustration to the governing body about their very unfair policy toward those who simply choose to leave.. regards.
the governing body.

Do you think because they look identical to you that they formed in the same way? That's a heck of an assumption. You are comparing Apple's and oranges. A diamond and synthetic diamond look the same, but they were formed by a very different process.
Limestone caves dissolve at a very slow, consistent rate that can be measured. You simply cannot compare stalagtites that form naturally in a cave with mineral deposits from a farmer's field, or a cement basement. In cement the rock has already been crushed and dissolved, greatly speeding up the process. In a limestone cave the process happens naturally and that process takes time. Barometric dating puts the stalagtites in limestone caves at 190,000 years
From Konceptuals link above:
The fast-growing stalactites form via processes very different from calcium carbonate stalactites found in limestone caves. Limestone is not soluble in water. When carbon dioxide (from decaying plants in the soil above the cave) mixes with water, it forms a very weak carbonic acid. This turns the calcium carbonate into calcium bicarbonate, which dissolves. When drips are exposed to air in the cave, a little carbon dioxide escapes from them into the atmosphere, which reverses the process and precipitates a small amount of calcium carbonate. The upper average rate for limestone stalactite growth is ten centimeters per thousand years, with lower growth rates outside of tropical areas.

Challenge to Creationists
by cofty inin response to the 37 threads in my evolution is a fact series - see bottom of op for links - perry posted a link to an article "44 reasons why evolution isn't true".. i offered him a challenge on the thread and by pm.
predictably he is totally ignoring it, so i am offering the challenge to any evolution-denier who thinks they have evidence to support their position.. please present one specific piece of evidence for creationism.. my task will be to refute it with evidence within 24 hours.. then i will present one piece of evidence for evolution and your challenge will be the same.. all posts must be as succinct as reasonably possible.
entirely in your own words, without copy-paste, videos or links.. please post your interest to take part and we will set it up before the first actual post in the exchange.

To those of you who think the forum should not discuss evolution, please reconsider. Belief in creationism is a core teaching of the Jehovah's Witnesses. They selectively quote statements by scientists to alter their original meaning and engage in other intellectually dishonest practices to prop up this belief. If you have figured out that the Watchtower was wrong and lied about representing God and teaching bible truths, why would not at least consider that they were wrong about evolution as well? Why are you uncomfortable with a simple discussion about it?
Nobody is forcing you to consider these things, you can simply avoid all evolution topics if that is not your interest, but many JWs and former JWs are interested in it and do want to learn about it. Perry and others who believe in creationism are free to believe what they want, but they cannot expect to post things that are patently untrue and not be challenged on it.
Cofty has spent a great deal of time to post on the subject. His posts are well researched and well thought out and he thoroughly understands what his subject. I have learned a lot and keep learning new things from him. Perry simply cuts and paste things he finds elsewhere. He doesn't really understand what he is cutting and pasting and can never defend it when challenged. He simply ignores it, waits a while and posts it again in a new thread. It is the worst form of intellectual laziness, Cofty is right to call him out for it.
Instead of getting upset that there is a discussion of evolution, why not read one of the many topics that Cofty has posted in his series on evolution? They are usually short and easy to understand. Why would you not at least consider the possibility that evolution could be true?

Can anyone allay my suspicions?
by Nicholaus Kopernicus incan you allay my suspicions of wt associated activity?.
during the last 3 to 4 co visits, i noticed a predeliction on the part of the ladt few co's for taking photos at fs meetings and photos of cong at end of visit.
i'm beginning to suspect that such is not because the co's have a newly found socially engaging disposition (being cool).

Does the governing body know what they are doing?
by Gefangene inwhat do you guys think?.
are they only some uber religious zealots or do they pursue hidden agendas beyond religiosity?.

I believe they have deluded themselves and think they speak for God. At the same time they have a vested interest in maintaining their power and prestige in the little pond in which they swim. No doubt they have had do things that would surprise the average JW.

Lett facial ticks from a stroke/aneurysm?
by azor ini was speaking to my mom the other day.
she stays in the group to retain a relationship with the rest of our in family.
she told me that she heard from one of my brothers that the reason lett makes all those weird facial gestures has something to do with a stroke or aneurysm when he was a younger man.

A stroke causes paralysis, it doesn't give you "rubber face", his issue is too much movement, not lack of it. I diagnose a severe case off ass-hat.

RC Was Worse Than I thought...
by JW_Rogue ini was visiting with my family and it seems the rc was worse than i thought.
now they all seem to think that "we are so close to the end" and that the "brothers are really preparing us for the gt".
some even saying that soon our message will change to a judgement message for mankind and talking about how we need to improve "everything we do".

This is typical of people after attending the conventions. They have just expended a good deal of their time and money to attend, of course they are going to come back with their brains freshly washed, energized and lobotimized.
In two weeks they won't remember a thing that was said.

Great story. The bond between people and their animals can be amazing. As I read this my cat Lizzy is curled up on my legs. Lizzy picked me out at the animal shelter but I had to leave her for a few days to get fixed. When I went to pick her up she escaped from the shelter volunteer and immediately jumped into the cat carrier I brought, she wasn't taking a chance I was going to leave without her.

Why murder 8 billion non-believers to just turn around and resurrect 20 billion other non-believers?
You heretic. Don't you see that the non believers alive now are all evil, because they didn't take the Watchtower and Awake when it was offered? Paybacks a bitch you know. Where as the people that will be resurrected are good, because they died before Armageddon. Timing is everything.
Of course it's all a bit confusing because there are 1.36 billion people in China now who have probably never heard of Jehovah's Witnesses. And probably most people in western countries don't actually have any idea what they teach. And the people that will be resurrected have a heck of an advantage over those living now because they will have proof Jehovah exists and he wants them to be JWs, since he killed everyone else. But I am sure that will all be explained somehow.
