I love it also. For the last 4 years I've worn my Flower Fairy costume, that I made myself. It's over the top, tulle and roses in the skirt, leaves on the bodice, wings, a wand and a huge floral headband. I call it my "Fat, fifty, fabulous flower fairy". The funny thing is my hubbie wore it to his work last year and won first prize, beating out wonder woman and elvis. It's a very traditional government type organization and they are still talking about this. So this year I think I'm ready for a change, and I want to explore my dark side. I want to be Mrs. Lovett, from Sweeny Todd (for those who haven't seen this, she makes meat pies out of people). We get tons of kids in our neighborhood and I love seeing them in their costumes. Our neigborhood has a yearly "punkin' Chuckin'" contest, where they award a prize for the divise that can hurl that squash the farthest. I like this time of year. Tomorrow is the downtown Oktoberfest - bring on the beer!

Prince turns his back on Raunchy Routines
by Dogpatch inhit maker prince turns his back on raunchy routines1 comment(s)september 29, 2008 09:33:58 gmt.
he told usa today, becoming a jehovah's witness advocate and reading the bible have contributed to his decision to ditch his raunchy past.. tom walck/pr photoswilling to get better with his growing age, prince has a change of heart that he decided to turn his back on his raunchy past.
the hit maker openly admitted he no longer wants to write songs with lusty lyrics and perform dirty dancing on-stage because he does not want to offend his fans, who as time goes by have grown up and had children.

Larry Graham gave a talk at my hall once. It was a very interesting talk (one of the very few I ever heard). Seemed like a nice guy, too. I kind of feel sorry for Prince, it must be hard as an artist to confine your creativity to the box the JW's try to put you in.

Speaking of depression ...
by easyreader1970 ini didn't want to hijack the suicide topic because it was a bit more serious than what i am about to say.
not that what i am about to say is comical.
i've been dealing with major depression for the past year and a half or so.

I agree with most everyone that seeing a professional would be helpfull. Just because your feel depressed about your situation, does not mean that medication and/or therapy would not help. You have boxed yourself in, and see only two options 1) leaving and lossing your family and friends or 2) staying stuck in the life of a JW. There may be other options for you, that only you can figure out with therapy. I have suffered from depression for years. It's an ongoing fight. I find extra b vitamins, sunshine and excercise helps me to think better and be more positive. Once you are thinking better, you may find a compromise you and your family can live with. Obviously, it's a delicate situation, you don't want to move to fast, and only you know your particular situation. I lived with a DF mate for 25 years, so leaving the org is not necessarily the end of the marriage. You need help to work through these issues

Annoying types
by John Doe inof customers, installment one.
ok, so i probably wasn't in the best mood this morning--had to be at the company cluster**** meeting at 6 this morning.. .
anyway, i'm up on a ladder with several boxes in my hands working on inventory--another reason i probably wasn't in a good mood.

I work in an antique co-op (we take turns manning the counter). Most of our customer's are very nice, but get a few nut cases and some real meanines. I cannot automatically accept returns (we have a no return policy, but of course, have to make excpetions sometimes). I have to call the vendor whose item was involved. Some people get really irate, no matter how polite I am. So even when they do OK the refund or replacement, the aren't happy. So, I feel like saying "what if I refund your money, give you two of the item anyway, then kill myself, WOULD THAT MAKE YOU HAPPY!" . Of course I don't say that, but I want too! Some people are just determined to be unhappy. I had a customer who wanted to return something she bought the YEAR before. And it was a 50% markdown. She kept calling and whining, so I finally said, throw the thing away and I will give you the $7.50 credit in my store. Never heard from her again. I had another whiner who wanted an item that was not available from my vendor. So, just to make her happy, I painted one of the set to her specifications. Then her cat broke the glass. I tried to order replacement glass, but the new ones didn't fit. With all of this I was losing money, and she still wasn't happy. I had to be outright rude to get her to stop calling. You would think this stupid $15 item was the end of the world for her. It takes all kinds, I guess.

Did you feel euphoric at conventions? Anyone go to Dodger Stadium?

I used to kind of enjoy the conventions at Doger, but I never felt any euphoria. It was kind of neat with the food tents and I remember getting old gold candy bars once, kind of cool. You did kind of feel like you were part of something. After I got older and had kids it was just a big drag. I had to ride a bus each day from Ventura, it was hotter than heck, and there I sat, sweating and hot with two little kids, bored out of my mind. My last few conventions were at Cow Palace, at least you wen't in the sun, but what a dank, ugly building. And it seemed like the talks got more and more boring. Nothing but guilt, guilt, guilt. Finally just couldn't go any more, it was too depressing.

Hi everyone, here's my story...
by LisaAnn ini loved it, it was very interesting... tell the rest...

Thanks for sharing, your story is very interesting. I was not raised, but became a JW very early (13) also. Didn't have your doughts about the bible, but struggled with many things in the org. I finally left as I couldn't stay in my marriage. At the time, I still thought JW's had the truth about the bible (maybe), but I couldn't live with my Ex and I couldn't beleive that God would want me to me miserable. I thought if God would judge me for seeking happiness, so be it, I would die at the Big A. But I really couldn't believe that that would be the case. After many years, I came to the conculsion that the bible wasn't perfect or God's word. It was very liberating.

I knew a sister that believed that the government could spy on you through the TV. This was 20 years ago, when there were no PCs or camera phones. I had to restrain myself from saying "yes, big brother is watching you!"

Annoying trend in TV commercials...
by Gregor inhave you noticed how it seems that the tactic of making commercials deliberately annoying is becoming popular?
i'm sure you can think of a commercial or two that quickly becomes like fingernails on a chalkboard.
that is why they are produced and repeated over and over, they accomplish the purpose of getting your attention and causing you to remember them.

I hate that Billy Mays guy too. I feel like he is SHOUTING AT ME!!! One of the reaons I have pretty much stopped watching TV. Dropped cable except for the local channels and watch once a week, maybe. Got Netflix and watch movies once or twice a week, other than that I just read. I'm much happier now.
