The signs they used to carry outside of churches saying "Religion is a snare and a racket". They were right of course, but it wasn't the churches, It was them.

Suicide - How many do you know within the JWs
by Lady Lee inthw wts likes to play games with their statistics.
one interesting but truly tragic is the number of jwhovah's witnesses who commit suicie.. now i suspect that if a person commits suicide shortly before or after they are disfellowshipped then the elders would say that person wasn't a witness or that they had done something so terrible that they were too guilty to admit it and by their action of committing suicide they pretty much declared they were no longer a jw.. yup fancy talk to make sure any crap didn't fall on them.. so my question.. do you know of cases like this?
if so then can you answer a few more questions.. had this person been dfed or in real danger of being dfed or whatever the equivalent is if they were never baptized?.

The legacy of this organization is many suicides. How many we will never know. Many suicides are hidden if the person involved has not been active ( per the dub think), but they are victims of this organization and its dictatorial methods. Gone for good, my heart goes out to you, I can only imagine what you have been through. This religion is contributing to these issues by their black or white thinking. If you are thinking of suicide as an option, know there is another world out there for you, there is a world beyond the Jehovah's Witnesses, your life has value, don't think this is an answer. Dont let this farce of a religion claim one more victim

the dumbest thing a CO ever said
by nowwhat? in"if it was'nt for the preaching work there would be millions more witnesses" - he was saying jehovah wants quality not quantity.. si i'm thinking, what's the difference as long as he has a people that live by bible standards and are moral.
maybe sharing their hope and faith with friends and relatives on a casual basis?
how backwards is that?.

We had a visiting brother, I don't think he was a CO, but he gave a talk on music. He went on and on about how evil the song "Mack the knife" was. This is a 60s song, the talk was in the 90s. I was embarrassed, my kids were laughing about it. It's a song about a killer, true, built it was meant as humor, not reality. It was so stupid, one of the things that woke me up.

Anyone Else See Les Miserables?
by BizzyBee ini went to see it today - by myself (mr bee is on a golf junket).
i was glad that that i was by myself because i cried so much at the end, i wouldn't have wanted to be with anyone who wasn't crying - and that would not have been mr bee!.
les miserables the current film is adapted from what is considered one of the half-dozen greatest novels of the past 150 years and one of the longest novels ever written.

I want to see it, I have seen the play twice. I really got into the music, I had the CD before I saw the play. I agree it is not for everyone, but I really connected with Fantine, and the despair of " I dreamed a dream", it was right before I left the Jehovah's Witnesses, I could relate!

Too old for an IPAD!
by Honeybucket inmy elderly(72) grandmother told my auntie that she has to get an ipad and a ipod.
my granny can barely check her email, im not sure what she thinks shes going to be doing with these apple products.
she said she needs them for the field service.... my faded aunt says if it will make her pretty and popular in the hall, cost is no matter.

Maybe buying her an I pad will help her learn to be more computer literate. I recently purchased a Kindle and I find it us easier to use than a PC. She may be motivated to learn how to use it since she has a specific use in mind, and I don't think 72 is too old to learn. Recent studies have shown that we continue to learn and our brains contongue to form new memories our entire life.

Rant: Weakness and enfeebling

after observing the situation as an adult for quite awhile, it is my belief that the societys teachings make people weak.

As a woman, I felt the organization made women weak. Women were taught to obey and honor headship, so there was no need to question anything, or come up with any ideas of their own, it encouraged passivity. In this organization the only way for a woman to obtain status was by being a pioneer or an elderette. And pioneers really didn't have any role in the organization, it was a minor kind of status. Elderettes could only have status through their husband, that is why many wives would get their husband to tell them confidential information, having such information gave them a feeling of powwe. Having no responsibilities, they gossiped and be meddled because that is all they could do.
The teachings of the Watchtower also encouraged women to stay in abusive marriages. After a few incidents of women being muordered by their physically abusive husbands, they stopped telling women to stay with a physically abusive mate, but the headship policy was clear, women should stay in a marriage unless they could obtain a scriptural divorce, and they should obey their husbands. Being forced to stay in an abusive relationship causes a person to feel powerless and weak, as their happiness and feelings were not important enough to take into consideration.
As a woman with a disfellowshipped husband, I was considered as nothing in the congregation, and my husband treated me like a doormat, which I was. I accepted this, as I believed in these teachings. It was only when I became physically ill with stress and depression that I started questioning these things . In my job I worked hard and was treated the same as any man, same pay, same respect. So why could a woman never demand respect from her mate, or have any responsibilities in a congregation? Yes, the bible said a woman could not teach, but was that really good? I looked around at the meeting and saw some very intelligent, strong and capable women, yet they were considered less important than the pimply faced, 18 year old microphone holder.

Mistakes about Dates for the End
by Bob_NC inwho has read a recent wt article consenting that "expectations" about the end have not proven to be true?
the article goes on to say that this has not dampened our hope for when the end does come.
the article quotes habbakuk about jehovah's day not being late.

Consider this example: A lookout in a fire tower might see what he thinks is a wisp of smoke on the horizon and sound what proves to be a false alarm. Later, though, his alertness could save lives. Likewise, we have had some wrong expectations about the end. But we are more concerned with obeying Jesus and saving lives than with avoiding criticism. Jesus’ command to “give a thorough witness” compels us to warn others about the end.—Acts 10:42.
And if the lookout in the fire tower said he saw smoke 15 times, but there was never a fire, he would be fired and replaced with a rational person.

Need advice from a female
by CADSkin inlong story short.
ive been married for 18 years to my beautiful wife.
when i was younger i had a lot of attention due to my looks which has always made me extremely uncomfortable.

It sounds like you are doing all the right things, this is something your wife needs to work on. She is insecure about her looks and so she is jealous of other women. Unless you are encouraging these women, it's not your problem. Continue to flirt with and complement her, but don't push her to join a gym, that just makes her feel that she isn't good enough for you. Do continue family activities that will help you all be fit and healthy. Don't stop going to the gym, that is the worst thing you can do. My husband and I do date night. Sometimes date night is a Netflix movie and pizza, but it's date night every Friday. I highly recommend this for all married couples, especially if you have children. If you cannot afford a babysitter, find a family that you can exchange babysitting services with.

I think people are desperate to believe in God or anything, really, that makes them feel they have some control over the random nature of life. It makes no logical sense, but once a person has received what they see as a sign, they cling to this false belief, because their faith gives them comfort, and they cannot accept the alternative, that life is random, and that's all there is. Reality is painful, and people tend to avoid pain, by whatever means necessary, that is why they are so ready to believe these stories. This particular story may be true, but even so it doesn't prove anything, except to those who need to reinforce their comforting beliefs. They don't see reality because they don't want to see reality.
For about the last ten years of being a Jehovah's Witness, I was getting glimpses of reality, but I couldn' t quite accept it yet, so it created coggnitive dissonance. Then one day I had an aha moment. I realized that everything the Watchtower said was completely made up, there was no proof that we lived in the end, that we would be the only ones to be saved, all of it. To this day I don't know why it took me so long to see the truth, I am just glad I did. As painful as reality is, it is better than fooling yourself.
