So much, I've been out a while. Left a bad marriage, married the love of my life, just celebrated our 13th Valentine's day together. Started my own business. Traveled to Europe. Made a lot of new friends, based solely on friendship, not religion. I am able to enjoy my children, without worrying if they were JWs or not(fortunately not). I do volunteer work, contribute to charities, involved in the the community. Of course celebrate the holidays, decorated many a tree, my Hubby is Santa, and I his Mrs.Claus at our neighborhood Xmas party.

Has leaving the truth( i hate that word) caused you to do things now that you would not have normally done ?
by sieborg inalthough we all know that there are many disadvantages of being brought up ( vomit sound) in the truth.

I just got flowers delivered. The funny thing is I almost didn't answer the door because the Dubbies have been coming by a lot lately, and I just didn't feel like getting into it with them. So glad I finally did.
We went out for an early Valentine's dinner last night. I am baking a heart shaped flourless chocolate cake for tonight. I may go get my hubby a bottle of sambuca also.

"Why Do Many Male Jehovah Witnesses Who Learn TTATT Grow Beards"?
by ÁrbolesdeArabia inthe year once 1983 and the brother who use to study the bible with me drove by and had a full on "charles manson" looking facial hair and beard.
i asked tina, a friend what's up with him?
tina was 19 and a hot red-head woman who was partially in the religion but had problems with fornication.

I started questioning whether this was actually true, and then realized the few men I knew who left the religion did grow beards. My son, who was raised in the religion, has a beard.
I guess for the same reason my husband grew one when he retired from the army, because he could. I don't mind, he looks great with a beard, I can't imagine him any other way.

Practical Problems Arising From Leaving Jehovah's Witnesses - not on jw.org
by InterestedOne inwhat practical problems arise from leaving jehovah's witnesses?
this question was inspired by a poster whose jw friend refused to be a reference for an apartment.
i wonder if most jw's know deep down that they need to maintain some ties with non-jw's in case they find themselves either deciding to leave or ostracized for some reason..

As the Saying goes, don't put all your eggs in one basket. If your friends, family and source of income is all tied to the religion, it will be much more difficult to leave. Even if you are not yet ready to leave, start looking at broadening out in your relationships. It will seem strange at first, especially if you have never done this, but take baby steps at first.
Don't feel you have to explain anything to anyone, you are an adult, and answer to no one. The dubbies are good at butting into each other's lives, don't let them. Practice making people respect your boundaries. When some dubs came to my door and I told them I was a former Witness, they asked me what congregation I was from, as if they were entitled to that personal information. While I never should have told them anything, it really is none of their business. When I first left, I probably would have told them, I hadn't yet learned to put up those barriers. The less information given, the better.

Hard Wood Floors

seems like 10 minutes after i clean them they are a mess again.

I have them to, and yes they are a lot more maintenance., but it does save having to pay to have the carpets cleaned. I have a swiffer type mop, the kind with a large flat om, that has grips to attach cloths. It has washable pads, so I do not have to use the disposable kind, as they are expensive and wastefull. I also purchased some expensive microfiber cloths. I use the microfiber clothes on a daily basis, its pretty quick to go all around the room. This gets up dust and smaller particles, its amazing how much dust accumulates. Once or twice a week I sweep and damp mop with the pads that I bought with the mop. The pads and microfiber towels get thrown in the washer with rest of the laundy.

Hell on wheels is as gritty as they come. My husband went through withdrawal when we finished season one and two, and they hadn't started season three yet.

Whacky comments! What the craziest comment you've ever heard?
by toweragent inlast week a sister in my new hall made the following comment,.
"a brother once told me that it is better to be wrong with the organization, than to be right and be on your own without the organization.".
wow.

One sister, a bit of a dim bulb, commented that she believed the government could and did spy on us through our televisions. This was a long time ago, before computers and the kind of technology that would make this even remotely possible.

What about the ones who WATCHED THE PATIENT DIE?
by Terry ini was deep into my jehovah's witness life pre 1975 as the drumbeat to that mysterious yet specific date loomed large.. it was presented as a countdown to jehovah's promise of a 1000 year reign.
"how fitting" was the popular phrase!.
but, it was more like a countdown of a different sort.. .

Can it be intellectual dishonesty or laziness or stubborn insistence?
Ummmmmmm.......*raises hand*, yes, guilty, all of the above. I think I stayed for the same reasons I stayed in a bad marriage. Unwilling to accept that I made a bad decision, unwilling to admit I had been gullible, kept hoping it would all be OK in the end. kept thinking it was all my fault, I wasn't good enough.
The idea that God will somehow fix all the bad is hard to give up. The reality is that the world is messy, it's chaos, there are bad people, there are wars, there are no easy solutions. To give up the dream of a perfect world is hard. When Armageddon didn't come in 1975, I accepted the stupid excuse that the Watchtower gave, that it was somehow my own fault. It didn't cause any crisis, at least not then. But the hope of the promised new system grew dimmer and dimmer, year by year. I still believed, but it started to seem less and less real. It became harder and harder to go to meetings. I stopped going out in service. Finally, it became very easy to just walk away.
I ended my marriage and moved to a different state. I wish I had done it sooner, but that is my only regret.

Question for you astute folks here. Ex wife, no money for a major operation.
by jam intypical for elderly jw,s, they are now in their twilight years,.

I am not an expert, but I do not think they can take your house for medical bills. On the other hand, they will try to get them to pay, but it is unlikely they ever will be able to pay them off. They will probably try to force them to make some kind of good faith payments.
Depending on the reason for the surgery, she may be able to get early Medicare.
I had a friend in a similar a situation. Due to a severe health condition, she cannot work. She has made token ($50 per month) payments for a while. They did not attempt they take her house, but maybe that is because she is underwater in the loan.
