  it is astounding that someone like this creationist can have no appreciation for the scientific significance of his discovery.

  even in the face of evidence to the contrary, those who chose to believe rather than know will never forsake their ignorance.. alberta creationist discovers rare fish fossils in basement dig (full article and video).

  "an alberta man who discovered a school of rare fossilized fish while digging up a calgary basement believes the world was created by god a few thousand years ago.. it's for that reason edgar nernberg doesn't think the fossils could possibly be as old as paleontologists are estimating.. "i subscribe to the creationist position, and i believe they were laid down in noah's flood, about 4,500 years ago.

  I read about this in the Washington Post. What was interesting is that this was not pure chance, he has an interest in fossils and knew they were significant when he found them. It's amazing that he knows something about them, but refuses to see what their existence proves. It's hard to know what to think about someone who shows such willful ignorance.

  in the article 'judgement day' published by jehovah's witness', they are saying,'in 'judgement day', the people who will be resurrected and had no chance to learn about god will not be judged according to their past deed but what will they do after resurrection.

  ' and they show the scripture roman6:7 which says"who has died has been acquitted from his sin.

  " if we take out context and see it literally , it has that meaning but the scripture's contextual meaning is totally different, it doesn't talk about physical death but the death of old personality.so in this cotext, this cannot be applied.this is anacceptable to admit..

  They think people who died before the Big A who never had a chance to know "the truth" will get resurrected, but what about the people who won't know about it when Armageddon comes? Is your salvation simply a matter of lucky timing? It would make it like a lottery, some get a chance, some don't. When I became a JW I was told that Jehovah was going to "speed it up in his own time" and by the time of the end everyone on the earth will have had a chance to know about him. But it was impossible then and it's more impossible now. They aren't growing more than the general population, so every year Armageddon is delayed means more people who don't know about Jehovah who will be bird food because they didn't die at a good time.

  They keep talking about how close the end is, but how can that be if everyone in earth has to get a witness? Most people in the U.S. don't really know what JWs believe, never mind the millions in countries where there are few JWs, and no real effort is being made to get the word out either. They seem content to stand next to literature carts in train stations. How is that lifesaving preaching work? If that is how God will give people a chance at life he is a cruel practical joker.

  i was thinking about green handshakes, and i knew my wife and i personally would try to slide at least $100 each c.o visit to the c.o.

  if we were low on cash, we'd never hand him less than $20.

  how many of such handshakes does he receive in a weeks time?

  What I find troublesome about this is the fact that a CO makes decisions about the elders and others in a congregation. If some are giving more in the way of green handshakes then how could the CO be impartial in a dispute or disciplinary issue? What about when it comes to choosing people for parts on the conventions? It's too much like bribes to me.

  And they look down on churches for having paid clergy, this doesn't seem any better, in fact it seems much worse.

  Anointed, Crazy, Overzealous, or Good Acting?

  i don't believe for a second that the wts can be god's chosen organization, if he does have an earthly one, especially one with such a hypocritical past.

  but the question begs; why are there people professing having the heavenly calling usually found in the wts?.

  does anyone know or have heard of other denominations having the genuine heavenly calling?.

  I have been thinking about this and I think that some people are praying so much that they are entering a meditative state. Meditation can cause a release in endorphins, the feel good hormones, and some people in very deep meditation can have an altered state of consciousness. Naturally since they are religious they associate these feelings with being from Jehovah.

  I believe that is also what happens to people in Pentecostal religions, they expect to speak in tongues, so that is the direction it takes for them.

  I meditate, and do feel a mild euphoria and increased focus, but not an altered consciousness. I don't know if I am not doing it enough or if I am not the kind of person that experiences this

  I am sure that my former in laws spread it about that I left my husband and ran away to Colorado to live in sin with a guy I knew in high school. Actually all that was true, so I don't know how they could make it sound much worse, lol. I figured I was going to shunned for getting remarried without a "scriptural divorce", why bother pretending we weren't living together.

  It was hilarious, my JW mom called me and my sixteen year old step son answered and said I wasn't there, and he said that he wasn't my then boyfriend. My mother was all shook up because my step son has a very deep voice, I guess she thought I was having a three some? I had to explain the more pedestrian truth, that I was shacking up, but with only one guy. Why does everyone want to believe the worst? We have been happily married for fifteen years next July, which I am sure has shocked everyone in a different way.

  "Foot in the Door", or "Apathy with a Cart"?

  we have all noticed this and commented in other threads.... but isn't it interesting that in times past, witnesses earned a reputation of being so determined to share "the kingdom message" that they would put their foot in the door at a house to keep the conversation going!.

  now, the apathy and lack of effort in service; particularly with the literature carts shows the complete opposite!

  yet...the end is supposed to be even closer right?

  I don't really care about today's JWs having it easier, what bothers me is the hypocrisy of a religion that pretends to be all about the preaching work, it's what they say sets them apart, what makes them different and special, but the reality is very little preaching actually happens.

  Most individual JWs don't care about preaching, only about "getting hours". If they stopped reporting hours, how many would be standing by those carts, do you think? They know they won't be converting anyone, or even having any meaningful conversations, so the only reason to be there is to "count time".

  The Watchtower is just as complicit. They know they won't be getting any converts that way, but only care about the money from the magazines that comes mostly from individual JWs. They know most of those magazines end up in the land fill, unread and unwanted, but they dont care, not do they care about the fact that those JWs could be spending their time in a more productive way.

  I hate waste, and this is just a lot of waste, wasted time, wasted paper, wasted resources, and for what? To feed a parasite like organization that serves no useful purpose.

  first of all it is painfully long.

  secondly there is an uncanny resemblance with megan(the one who married out of the truth) to the girl in the jeremiah book who married out of the truth.

  I'm another INFP who really, really didn't fit in. The idea of a JW wedding filled me with horror as a teen. Reading life is too short's post, yeah, glad I passed on that.

  Yeah, we are only 4% of the population, so we are usually the odd one in any group, but other groups don't make you feel like there there is no hope for you as much as the JWs, lol.

  Did you know the person who developed the Myers-Briggs was also an INFP? Although we might not fit in everywhere, we have our own unique perspective to bring to the world, just not the JW world.

  ok every one raves on at how miserable and tight wt is, while they are literally swimming in money and assets.

  although this may be true this isn't the real issue or the problem to begin with.

  the problem is having a long term survivable business plan.

  One month researching my doubts: my crucial issues with WTBTS - what are yours?

  so after 20 years a convert, about a month ago i decided to start listening to my doubts and to do independent research about the wtbts teachings (naughty me).

  as a result i have consolidated my position on various points and these are my major issues with the wtbts teachings, i am posting these to help myself figure things out (with your assistance) and hopefully to hear from others at their stage of drawing away from the gb - newbies' especially.

  After may years away from the religion my list is pretty much the same. I agree with those here who advise to take it slow. Since you have family and friends you don't want to lose you have a lot to think about. There are no easy answers, so make sure you can live with the long term consequences of any decisions. It's rough to lose family and friends, it's also rough to live a lie, either way it's better to know ttatt (truth about the truth) than not.
