t was explicitly stated in the letter elders should not apologize to those df'ed based on previous understanding when they ask for reinstating. This demonstrates very well how humble the Society is when an apology is needed...

Welcome Alcyone, it's good to hear the RC hearings are waking some people up. After saying such reports are apostate lies they made themselves look foolish, since they couldn't dispute the fact that they do have a problem with pedophiles and their weak defence of their procedures being bible based were shown to be a questionable.

The closest they got to an apology was after the 75 fiasco. After misleading people by making them believe Armageddon would come in 1975 they said that "some" went ahead of the things written. No explanation as to who "some" people were, or why that did not make them false prophets. People sold their homes and lived on the proceeds (and were praised and held up as an example), others put off getting married or having children. The Awake said young people would have to accept the fact that they would never have time for a career in this system. After misleading people into making bad life changing decisions, they took zero responsibility for their mistake.

the vedas are the core sacred texts for the people of the east.

generally the vedas are to the east as the hebrew scriptures are to the west.

supporters of the bible, boast of it's scientific accuracy,prophetic accuracy & general infallibility.

Why are books considered sacred simply because they were written centuries ago? Most such books contain some wisdom, but it's usually wrapped up in a bunch of mumbo jumbo, which is to be expected of people who had no knowledge of science. It's like trying to use the users manual of an IBM selectric to fix your Apple computer, there may be a few things that apply, but it's mostly useless.

We are celebrating b-day tonight!

not that we have not done it before, but the event would come about out a mutual understanding.

never a word or any more than just "we are going out to dinner".

the news this time is that my wife, out of her own initiative, suggested this morning that we should go out and celebrate our daughters b-day.

Celebrating the day of one's birth is a wonderful tradition that harms no one. The Watchtower is ridiculous for prohibiting it. I hope you have a wonderful time.

One of the comments from the above article (from Stephocles) stated very well how JWs bring this spiritual dilemma upon themselves by treating child abuse as a SIN instead of a CRIME

Good point Dumplin, that is their problem. They stubbornly chose to treat this just like any other sexual sin, despite a mountain of evidence that people who have had sex with children will almost always continue to prefer to have sex with children. While it's possible that they can refrain from doing so, it's not at all a good bet, and pretending otherwise has disastrous consequences.

Instead they seem to engage in magical thinking, that everything will be OK because three elders, who have no special training or knowledge of pedophilia, decided this person has repented and is not a danger.

Geoffrey Jackson's Golden Apple watch INVESTIGATED

i went through the original footage to get a good look at the watch.. from these pictures we can probably say that it is a apple watch and that it has a golden color.

the color on the pin is black, and the band is white, grey, silvery or beige.. .

the pin is in the exact place for it to be a apple watch.. only apple watch edition have the gold color.

I dont know if anyone else has talked about this on any of the apple watch threads, but doesn't the Watchtower recommended Apple tablets? Is it possible that they got some swag for doing so? They do the same things with hotel rooms (get free rooms for throwing business to the hotel while the rank and file overpay)

i feel more confused than ever

well i know i've been posting a lot of topics like this lately and i'm sorry if i sound whiny or annoying.

my parents were asking me why i was so upset lately and i ended up just telling them the whole truth.

i told them i don't believe in god or the bible because i don't have any evidence of anything.

You are very young, you don't have to figure this all our right this moment. Of course it's confusing when your parents say one thing, your JW friends say one thing, then you come here and we believe something different. I think you know in your heart and mind where the truth is, you just need time to absorb it all. Put this on the back burner for a while, I think you will gain clarity.

But don't stop asking questions and don't push your doubts away because it's confusing right now. Listen to your own conscience, don't let any one tell you what you should believe, not your parents, not your friends, not even us. It's your life

Right now you are probably going to the meetings. While you are there look for the inconsistencies, the logical fallacies, the things that just plain don't make sense. Question everything. Once you know how cults work you will easily be able to spot see how you and your parents have been manipulated. Knowledge is power.

So for now, just obey your parents, go to the meetings etc., but don't forget what you have learned, be prepared for when you are an adult and can make your own decisions. Don't get baptized, it would be wrong with your current doubts and you need to keep your options open. Focus on your education.

Life after the witnesses, friends, faith etc

hi everyone, this is my first post so go easy on me :) i have been a witness all of my life (i'm 37) and truly believed it until 3 years ago.

my husband and i had become spiritually weak and over time i began to question more and more until i came to the conclusion that the witnesses were not the true religion but just one of many religions and that if god is there then there are many paths to get to him.

anyway, i've battled with keeping going as my husband still believed and i didn't want to be in a divided household as we have a young daughter and thought it would be very confusing for her (and us).

Hi and welcome. I have been out for a long time, so I have completely adapted to life as a non JW. I have new friends and find them to be just as good as my friendships before, but different. I only think about the JWs when I come here, otherwise it's not a part of my life.

It does take a while before you get to being your natural self, the person you were meant to be if you hadn't become a JW. Be patient, as change doesn't happen over night, and it takes a while before you get rid of Watchtower thinking. At first I just thought they were not just mistaken on some things, but as time went on I realized they really got nothing right. About eight years in I lost faith in God completely, I am happy to not have to worry about any of it anymore. I think we are here for a short while on earth, make the most of it, you don't get a do over or a second chance, so don't waste in service to a cult. I am happy in my life and my only regret was not leaving sooner.

I hope you have a very successful transition as well.

JWs nearly killed my mother

the past week has been hell for me.

my mother started feeling ill and we went to seek medical assistance.

we live in the mountains and the nearest large hospital is about 150 kms away.

I am so glad you were able to convince her to take the transfusion. You are a good son.

My ex husband had a hemoglobin of 3 and wouldn't take a transfusion either, even though he had been disfellowshipped for twenty years by then. Amazingly he did not die, but it took him a year to get better. I was still a JW then, I thought it was incredibly stupid.

Cult brainwashing is hard to fight.

my mother is old enough that i don't want to burst her bubble by telling her ttatt.

i keep my mouth shut about what i know so that i can continue to have a relationship with her.

my father died a few years back and i would love to see her marry again.

It's really hard for older women in this organization to find a decent guy. At her age there are just not enough single men to go around, which means she would probably have to settle if she was desperate to get married. Personally I would rather be single in her circumstances. Why don't you just get her a cat?

what can i learn from that?

not to accept things at face value but to seek out opinion and different view points.. hence my question " do you believe man landed on the moon?.
