  up for auction is a hardbound edition of the "kingdom ministry school textbook" published by the watchtower bible and tract society, jehovah's witnesses, for use by elders only.

  because this was used in the course of a school, it has much underlining and many marginal notations.

  Reading a new book - "Face your Fear" by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach...

  has anyone read it?

  or any thought on his concepts here?.

  the basic thought is that fear [a negative driving force] will motivate us from the outside, but it is better to turn to positive inward drives to get life fulfillment.. his thought is that 'fear of being insignificant' is the primary drive in society [primarily western society i think].. i could not help but see all the connections to jdub thinking while reading it.

  several months ago, i asked a friend of mine from church to become my "accountability partner.

  " basically, someone that meets with me once a week and we share what is going on in our lives.

  the point is to share joys, unburden griefs, pray together, pray for each other, be brutally honest with each other, study the bible together, etc.

  Witness School

  has anyone here ever gone to a witness school.

  you know the school jw's set up to keep their kids separate from the world.

  you would have the daily text every morning and of course a kingdom song had to be sung.. i'd love to hear your experiences.

  Another group sues ex-members over website

  after i posted a news item on my website about charges in a lawsuit against rick ross being dropped in federal court, a couple who is still involved in the lawsuit contacted me.

  they are jim bergin and judy garvey.

  as i read their site, especially jim's article a husband's perspective , i could not help but be stuck by the similarities between many of their experiences and ours.

  After I posted a news item on my website about charges in a lawsuit against Rick Ross being dropped in Federal Court, a couple who is still involved in the lawsuit contacted me. They are Jim Bergin and Judy Garvey. They are former members of the Gentle Wind Project (GWP) and the counts against them in the lawsuit are still being persued.

  Check out Jim and Judy's website at Wind of Changes. As I read their site, especially Jim's article A Husband's Perspective , I could not help but be stuck by the similarities between many of their experiences and ours.

  Obviously this is a very important case for Jim and Judy, but I think it also important for former Jehovah's Witnesses who run websites that are critical of the Watchtower as well as former members of all sorts of groups who speak out against the groups with which they were once a part. There are links to the legal documents involved in their case on their website. Take a look at the lawsuit itself. Count 1 of that suit still stands against Judy and Jim. As you read it, think about what would happen if the Watchtower Society filed a similar suit against all the former JWs who run websites.

  If the Gentle Wind Project prevails in this case it will set a very dangerous precendent. This should be of particular concern given the Watchtower Society's recent activity aimed at limiting the expression of former Jehovah's Witnesses on their websites.

  Just got back from the Kingdom Hall.....

  the wife and i just got back from the kingdom hall this afternoon.

  some of you may recall that said we would be going back today for a memorial of a close friend of the family.

  so i thought i would share the experience.. i have to start out by saying just getting ready to go was interesting.

  What's the Watchtower's definition of an "Apostate"?

  if a person doesn't go to meetings nor in the field service, he's considered "inactive".

  an inactive person is not an apostate.

  if an inactive person joins a forum like this one, he is automatically considered an apostate by the watchtower org.

  Keep in mind that to be disfellowshiped, an apostate does not have to be a
  promoter of apostate views. As mentioned in paragraph two, page 17 of the
  August 1, 1980, Watchtower, "The word 'apostasy' comes from a Greek term
  that means 'a standing away from,' 'a falling away, defection,' 'rebellion, abandonment.
  Therefore, if a baptized Christian abandons the teachings of Jehovah, as presented by
  the faithful and discreet slave, and persists in believing other doctrine despite Scriptural
  reproof, then he is apostatizing. Extended, kindly efforts should be put forth to readjust
  his thinking. However, if, after such extended efforts have been put forth to readjust
  his thinking. he continues to believe the apostate ideas andrejects what he has been
  provided through the 'slave class, then appropriate judicial action should be taken.

  This is not to say that you or the elders should go on 'witch hunts,' as it
  were, inquiring into the personal beliefs of your brothers. Rather, if
  something reasonably substantial comes to the attention of the elders along
  this line, it would be appropriate to make a kindly, discreet inquiry so as
  to protect the flock. We cannot overemphasize the need to be cautious,
  discreet and kindly as such situations are dealt with.--James 1:19, 20.

  Do Elders serve as Agents of the WTS/CCoJW

  For years, we were told that the elders and ministerial servants were appointed by the governing body. After I was appointed as an elder, I found that was not the case. I was rather surprised when we recommended another man to be an elder and the form (s-302) came back confirming his appointment. The form was signed, not by the governing body, but by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc. I don't know how the forms have been signed since CCoJW was formed, but for the years previous to that, the elders were appointed by the WTB&TS of NY Inc, and therfore should be considered as agents of that corporation. All that was just one more straw.
