Witnesses Now For Jesus - Who's Going?
by NeonMadman in.
after the battlefield that the last thread on this subject turned into, i'm almost afraid to post this, but it would be nice to see how many of you i might expect to see this weekend.. wnfj is the original ex-jw convention; this weekend (oct. 18-20) will be the 24th year.it is definitely christian in orientation, and features, music, prayer and talks on a variety of topics relating to jw's and biblical christianity.

I did a Dun & Bradstreet check on the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc. in late 1994. According to their latest figure at that point (6/8/94), their SALES for the previous year was $1,248,400,000. Over one and a quarter BILLION dollars!

Elders are subject to the authority of the WTS
by Elsewhere inthere was a thread that was asking for proof that the wts demands that the elders do what they say.
i found the following on quotes' site:*** pay attention to yourselves and to all the flock (1991) p.100-101 ***.

Why is there growth in the Jehovah's Witness relig
by kenpodragon inone of the most amazing and disturbing events in human history, has got to be the time of the black plague.
in which people were dying so fast and in such numbers that the authorities were unable to bury them fast enough.
disease in general has been a terrible part of the human race, even today.

Why is there growth in the JW religion? I think P.T. Barnum had the perfect explanation.

Have you ever seen a JW with a beard?
by SpannerintheWorks inok, you've probably guessed i'm not talking about the women!.
but jesus had a beard (just look at any wt publication) so did paul, john the baptiser (or baptist if you've got an earlier publication), etc.. surely all jw men should have beards!
they are christians (the only true ones) aren't they?

I grew mine while on a business trip. When I returned, it was a subject of conversation at the next elder's meeting. At that time (1995), there was a letter from the WTS to COs and DOs stating that the congregation could not stop a man with a beard from being an unbaptized publisher or being baptized if he had a beard. It also said that the elders could use a man with a beard for whatever they deemed appropriate as long as it was in keeping with local custom. Being here in Maine, beard are definitely local custom. On that basis the body of elders voted that I could continue as an elder with my beard. (goatee, actually)
Shortly thereafter I announced that I was stepping down from being an elder. That had been in the works for a while. When the CO came around, we met with him. After discussing my stepping down, he then went on a tear about beards, forced the elders into re-voting on the matter, and started making a case for me being removed. All the time he kept saying "It's not a rule, but ..."
A rule by any other name is still a rule.

Hi Skally,
When I saw the title of the thread, I was thinking the JWs were thinking:
Don't come around here no more
Don't come around here no more
Whatever you're looking for
Hey! don't come around here no more...
CHORUS:
Don't come around here no more
Don't come around here no more
Don't come around here no more
Don't come around here no moreI don't feel you any more
You darken my door
Whatever you're looking for
Hey! don't come around here no more...
CHORUS Don't come around here no more
Don't come around here no more
Don't come around here no more
Don't come around here no moreStop walking down my street
Who do you expect to meet?
Whatever you're looking for
Hey! don't come around here no more
