Welcome Lady C. Many of us are in similiar situations. It is heartbreaking to see family member so tied up in all of that nonsense. Hopefully you can find comfort here.

Society letter read to all congregations July 28,2006 !!
by headmath ini got news of this from the jw grape vine today that at the meeting on thursday(yesterday) there was a letter read to all the congregations from the society.
for the first time the society says in the letter to prepare for great tribulation and to have plenty of emergency supplies in case of a disaster.
this has shaken the up the jws it seems.

I lurked a couple of days...got scared and left for about a month. The things I read here kept nagging at me, so I came back and lurked for a couple of weeks and then joined. This site saved me and my family. I am so grateful!

What one thing reminds you most of being a Witness?
by free2beme inthe mind is full of all kinds of things that can trigger memories.
it could be the taste of a certain spice that reminds you of a now passed relative who liked to cook.
it could be the smell of a perfume or cologne, that reminds you of a lover you once could not live without.

I still look at the clock and if it happens to be the time I'd be leaving for a meeting I think, "Thank God I don't have to go to a meeting!!!"
People in suits and dresses out to eat on a Saturday.

REALLY, Why Do People Remain Jehovah's Witnesses???
by minimus ini think it's all about fear.
they are always afraid of displeasing jehovah god, the elders, the circuit overseer.
witnesses are always walking on eggshells, hoping that they'll be good enough to make it thru the great tribulation.

fear of losing family
I think that is the most frequent reason. When you stop believing that is the only rational reason to stay on (IMO).

British Asians and Pets
by ThomasCovenant inas many are aware there is a large asian 'community' in great britain, indian, pakistani and bangladeshi.
in my line of work i have been into the homes of many but only today did it occur to me that i have never and i mean never met an asian family with pets.
am i just not aware or is it something that isn't done, in particular with the muslim 'community'.. thanks.

A fader is someone who gradually stops going to meetings and out in field service so as not to draw too much attention from elders etc. They eventually stop going. People choose this route so as not to get disfellowshipped or dissassociate. They usually have friends and family in the borg they do not want to lose.

I'm being terrorized right now!!! I can't pick up my phone or answer the door because of elders and every time I go to a store I have to run from sisters screaming "MISS YOU AT THE MEETINGS!!!!!"
