Hi Elinor, and welcome! Thanks for your wonderful post, I'm so glad you decided to join here. What is the situation with your dad and the research you started? I - and I'm sure others here too - would like to know, if you feel comfortable in talking more.

I thought I was alone
by elinor ini just could not believe it when i stumbled across this forum recently.
i was actually doing research for my dad who wanted to see the world's viewpoint of the failed 1975 prophecy.
he came into the truth less than three years ago and though my mom has been a witness since she was a teenager she never spoke of that particular time period to him.

Why aren't the 144,000 put to a greater use?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inwe've been told that the 144,000 are providing the ''spiritual food'' and that there are a little over 8,000 of them on earth today.
every prayer that is ever given, they are thanked for providing the "spiritual food".. if that is the case ,why does the food(yum, yum) only come from new york?
why is the writing look like its written by sixth graders?

Kid A, that's not fricking funny. I lived through the terror of polio epidemics in the 1950's and had friends who were permanently crippled - and some who were killed - by that disease. Don't use such an archived photo of medical workers desperately working to save children and adults stricken with the polio virus as a humourous take on the assholes in the GB. It's truly vulgar.

I know my SS buddy received her gift because she posted in another thread that she had, but she's waiting until christmas day to open it. It's a relief to know she got the package. Oh I'm so excited...and I just can't hide it...

I'm so sorry, Undecided, about your pet. It's the hardest thing in the world to put a beloved pet-member of your family to sleep, but you did the right thing, I'm sure. Of all the animals in the world, man's relationship with dogs goes back perhaps as long as 14,000 years ago, and dogs are the most attuned with humans. It is a special bond. I still remember each dog we had when I was a kid, and my three canine companions who spent many happy years with me until 1999, 2001 and 2004. Memories are forever, I'm sure you cherish them.

Is this your first post JW Christmas? Tell us about it!
by LovesDubs ini was still in the borg when my children came...the oldest was going on 9 and the other two 6-1/2 and 2 when i decided it was time for mom to jump ship and run so my children,,,and me could live normal lives.
my neighbors whom i had dutifully avoided as bad association for all those years, heard that i had left the jws and that my children were having their first christmas ever in december of 1997. they got together and brought to us a little well worn and loved artificial tree, boxes of extra ornaments from their own collections, some ceramic village pieces with lights inside (which has grown to a really big village now with people...something my kids delight in setting up each year), and presents for the kids.
i tell you what...i have rarely been as moved as i was at that moment...the love these people showed for us even though i had never allowed myself to be close to them, being told they were evil, was heartwarming and pure.

LoveDubs, thanks for sharing that wonderful experience with us. What great neighbors you had in 1997. It has always been my experience, though, that people in general are not the a-holes that the JWs make them out to be. That's just part of the "hype" in order to try and differentiate themselves from "the world". In actuality, as many here can attest, the "worldly" people are more generous, giving and spontaneously loving and caring than the average JW - and they don't discriminate based on whether you are "in" or not.
This is not my first christmas since being out (I left in October, 2003), but it's the first one that I'm putting up a tree as my fiance is coming from Montreal to spend the holiday with me, our first together. We're both thrilled - carrying a long distance relationship/romance isn't the easiest thing in the world, but email and telephones are wonderful things! My last tree was 1994, and after that Christmas I packed everything up, including the practically new (at the time) artificial tree and gave it to a friend from high school, a single mom struggling to raise two kids. I know they got good use out of it.
And, bad JW that I was, I always bought gifts for my closest friends and co-workers while I was "in", I didnt' give a rip what the Society said about not celebrating christmas; I figured if it was alright not to give back my christmas bonus (no way in hell was I going to do that anyway), it was alright to spread a little holiday cheer by giving "gifts of appreciation" to my buddies and bosses :)

I really jumped the gun I sent mine out quite awhile ago! I've been having so much fun shopping online, first for my christmas tree, then for ornaments and decorations and for gifts, I ordered my gift online and had it sent, but now I'm having second thoughts about what I selected, eek!

Does Anyone Really Believe They Can Knock Out The Watchtower???
by minimus ini think it will be around for years to come.
i do think that we can put the word out about this cult and help people get out or not join them in the first place.
but we'll never obliterate them, in my opinion.

It's pathetic! No matter what happens their faith is strengthened, and if the same things happen to other religions it is taken as evidence against them! They can't lose... the only thing that can stop them is themselves, the individual witness has to pull his head out of his butt and start thinking... but they don't since the collective mind thinks for them.
Well, obviously not - since this place would not exist and none of us would be here if that was true.
The truth is in the $$$. Follow the $$$. When that dries up, the WTBTS dies.

I put my dear old dog to sleep
by Jez inafter 2 months of old age and illness, 2 cancelled vet appts, hoping he would get better, tears, frustration, watching him not eat, throwing up, becoming skin and bones, justifying keeping him, i stuck to this morning's appointment.. he was with me for the last 12 years of my life and his life has been entwined in so many of the memories i have.. to tell you about him, would be an essay.
i just want everyone to know that he was so close to me.
in the end, i kissed him on his head, said, "good boy, you're a good boy" and he laid his head on my hands and went to sleep.. i love you and will miss your crazy dog ways.

Jez, I'm so sorry. It's such a hard thing to do (I've done it 2x), you did the right thing. Small comfort, I know, but I believe in Dog Heaven and I dream of my dear departed doggies all the time, they are with me, it's just amazing, but I'm not surprised. I believe your doggie will be with you too.
