I believe DF keeps more in than contributes to those kicked out, but I don't think the HQ sees it that way. I don't think they understand the apathy, disappointment, lost hope, etc. the congregation members are experiencing. The CO reports to WTS aren't useful because the BOE spin things during the visit. I don't think the circuit reports matter either as long as a circuit is profitable.

I'm not sure what they're thinking at this point, but I think they might be trying to soften up a bit for the sake of their bottome line. Perhaps softening up isn't the best term, maybe they're trying to make things easier. Talks and meeting parts are easier to give, presentations and smaller mags are easier to deliver.

Old school JWs sat in week long conventions, went in FS for 20 hours and used the Bible, and were overall fairly "hardcore". Those JWs are getting older and dying. Today's JWs coming in new and the born-ins aren't about to do all that. The WTS has to make things shorter, simpler, easier because that old school approach won't work anymore. The only people that will be shocked by any coming changes are longtimers.

Skeeter I think that is a valid point regarding Disfellowshipping and losing money. When I was an elder almost every situation that came before the BOE was treated from the standpoint of disciplining instead of pastoral/really trying to help someone. The harsh treatment was one of the things that made me start questioning everything.

In one congregation the BOE privately reproved a sister who was one of the bigger donors. She was later DF and never came back...goodbye $$$.

So to the point of the topic; I can see an adjustment in handling "wrongdoing" & judicial procedures. That would take a day to discuss with the elders and couldn't be handled through a BOE letter. The WTS loves to have demos and pose questions and make sure everyone leaves with the same understanding...hence the need for face-to-face time. Conducting the training in a week across the globe ensures that the new policies are implemented at the same time.

I think there will be an adjustment to handling judicial cases, DF, DA, reproof, shepherding; not any other policy or doctrine. I think some of the elders at HQ might care a little bit about the flock, but the bottom line is that the WTs is losing too many members (i.e. money) out the back door and not getting enough through the front door. That is the motivation.

Hello everybody.

Apparently it has come a doubt about the character of the School of Kingdom Ministry in February 2013. Some trivia about it help us to discern the importance that the Governing Body is offering this arrangement. Look:

(1) Only elders will participate.

(2) All the elders of all the congregations of the world will be invited.

(3) The school will be held in all countries almost simultaneously, between 16 and 24 February 2013.

(4) Superintendents Circuit and District as well as some selected elders who minister the course, will only receive the materials in full consideration for two days before the date on which the course will be held.

(5) The sketches are in manuscript form, and no one is allowed to contain anything different. (I have not seen the sketches, but this detail was passed on to me by a source that I consider capable of owning and reliable)

(6) The Branch Committee were assigned to organize the school, but received no further information than it is to 'which dictates'.

(7) Elders appointed, but still pending, ie, not yet officially announced in the congregation are expected to attend mandatory. No elder, absolutely none, should be out of it, except in medical emergency. This is the approach adopted.

Regarding the content, although no one yet knows at Bethel what it is, it is expected that such a doctrinal shift. Example: It was requested that the branch committee appoint elders who could only "give the right direction to a depth biblical teaching and to be good readers and experienced '.

I think that is just his affect. I believe he is speaking off the outline and trying to have an easy going, laid back approach. Herd, Weaver and some of the other heavies do this.

These guys have a comfort level standing up before thousands of people hanging on their every word. So they just get up there and talk. They want to come across as personable, relatable, and down to earth. I don't think he's bumbling or inept...he's just a guy running his mouth in front of an adoring crowd.

The Field Service will end someday, maybe?

last month i heard a talk from a c.o.

he mentioned that the door to door service will come to an end.

he said that jehovah will tell us to stop it, eventually.

Some alternate ways of obtaining field service time already exist...or at least did a couple of years ago when i was still in:

Elders can already count time for giving public talks.
Pioneers can count time spent on KH build projects and working in departments at DCs and CAs (this might only apply to Dept Heads).
Publishers can count time telephone witnessing or occupying a JW information booth/table.
Both parents can count the same time (double dip) witnessing to their children.

Why is there a problem with Anonymous obtaining the list? It isn't as if Anonymous will delete the original file. Can't the police/courts/others still verify the information?

Edited to add: The database obtained by Anonymous doesn't have to be the information used in courts does it? Can't the court subpoena the WTS for the database?

If Anonymous obtains the database, surely they won't delete the original file that exists on WTS servers. At any point in the future the proper authorities can still get ahold of this information from the WTS, unless of course the WTS destroys the information. And if the WTS hasn't destroyed the database up to this point I don't see why they would due to Anonymous' activities.

Am I looking at this wrong? What am I missing?

How do I hear/feel God?

this is a serious question.. i know people that hear/feel god (and see postings about people's experiences), but i have not experienced this.

i have never heard anything audibly (or otherwise) nor "felt" anything inwardly.. i've prayed, read, quieted my thoughts, etc...but still nothing..

Poppers - I've read the Power of Now and it seemed to speak about the same sort of thing...quieting self, being present, etc. I've tried that, but I guess I have ADD. I don't obsess and carry a lot of turmoil with me...on second thought the WTS still causes me some anger, but for the most part I'm fairly laid back and chilled. I just haven't figured out how to do the whole transcendental thing. Maybe I'm overanalyzing it...

Perhaps appreciating the beauty in my kids' smiles or holding my wife's hand is good enough.
