The real impact of "apostate" sites
by dozy inin a recent discussion with a couple of district overseers and other heavies , the topic of the internet and apostate sites came up.
i asked what impact these were making , numerically , among jws.
the prevailing view was that , numerically , there was negligible impact.

Shadow: sak, I'm a JW. What topics are you looking for the JW side on?
I'm not "looking" for anything in particular. But, am now curious about:
AuldSoul: However, nothing on their Web site gives the Scriptures that support their doctrine on pre-baptismal requirements. So, I need some enterprising JW to either provide the Scriptures here or design a Web site that answers the question and give me a link to it.

AuldSole: It is worded in the KM as a caution, but many JWs have been instructed by their local body of elders to remove their pro-JW sites. Including the owner of this forum, who was originally pro-JW and who was disassociated for leaving this forum up.
If its worded in the KM as a caution, and then many elders are relaying this in a different way, then I cant (<- correction) see how it would be...
AuldSole: I believe it is deceitful to imply that it is only a recommendation and then enforce it as a Christian requirement. Others may disagree.
... deceitful.
"disassociated for leaving this forum up" Had no idea my comments started a new thread. Sorry MrsJones...
(formatting keeps getting messed up... wonder why)

JW Literature quoted above: "There is no need ..."
Which is not "we're not supposed to...". Only being cautious, which I take as good advice.
saki2fifty: On thing that I wish though, is that there were more Pro-JW's sites
Correction: Although wrong in JW eyes, wish there were more JW's to debate arguments on this board... pretty much one sided.
AuldSould : sir82, you are currently an elder. Although I realize you are only nominally a JW, can you support the teaching on pre-baptsimal requirements Scripturally? Do you believe any Jehovah's Witness can?
I cant, but wish someone would at least try to answer you... cause I know you've been waiting for an answer on this!

Re: The real impact of "apostate" sites
I personally can attest to the internet / apostate sites having an affect on my beliefs. I forced myself to stop reading this crap this past Monday, but found myself still reading. "Crap"? Well, maybe... maybe not. Its crap in the sense that I dont want it to be true...
Dozy said:
(3) Frankly , most JWs are almost completely disinterested in doctrine and the history of the WTS , which most "apostate" sites focus on. For them , it is a way of life and such matters are only of a vague academic interest and any objections are easily explained away.Yep, completely and utterly disinterested.... at first I guess. But, I now find myself looking up more of the history of the society, its doctrines and so on... all of which I am totally clueless on. Its not something that I want to hear, not something that you all wanted to hear at one time.
As far as the internet itself, i've always been a firm believer that its the breeding ground for all things bad... is feeding people with filth and crime and embedding new thoughts of things immoral and disgust... and is fueling things such as child porn, rape, incest, swinging, hatred, murder, adultery, etc... all to a great degree. And of course, and apparently, its fueling people to question their faith and beliefs as well.
On thing that I wish though, is that there were more Pro-JW's sites. Why? Because I want to hear both sides of the argument.. even though your side is very convincing. So where's that Thirdwitness... or you may know him better as Thirwitless.
hopefully I didn't get too off topic.
How many of you found out about Ray Franz and Crisis through this medium?
Nope, no idea. Is this what your talking about? : http://www.freeminds.org/sales/most_burned.htm -

No thanks. I've been following the threads quietly, so I can see whats going on.

Why would cutting responses down to just one poster change that?
Furthermore, posters here are entirely independent. None of us has the time...
I understand your point. However, I noticed that he is being bombarded with questions from all directions, and personally I dont see how he can answer all of the lengthy responses that has come his way... for he too may not have the time. And for that... it appears as though he's being criticized.
No, i'm not siding, and even dare not to. Just an innocent bystander.

Just an observation here, but for every response that Thirdwitness puts out, he is bombarded with 10 in return... with most wanting responses themselves. Might be more productive if the debate were between fewer people... a one on one would be good to see. This would force getting an answer that one is looking for.
Again, just an observation.

Well, just go back from my little trip up to Austin and had a really great time. Hung out with wifey, visited the State Capital, did some site seeing, and conquered the Muddy Buddy race! After 3 days away from home, we're now back in Houston and I was eager to get back on the board and do some reading. This is pertaining to the thread I started about a week ago asking for some insight. And answers I did receive! As usual, I enjoyed reading everyones responses, loved the questions posed (of which my desk is now covered with research literature), and thankful for stumbling upon such a caring people such as yourselves. I've recieved more that I asked for, and have lots of stuff to go through for weeks to come. As mentioned before, I am not a very outgoing person, so I dont have the capacity to sit here and debate these really deep topics with you all. I have many questions asked of me, many of my responses were responded to by Thesis-like responses, and my comments were picked apart.
So what I have chosen to do is take the information that I have recieved so far, and research it as you all have suggested I should do, on my own time. Initially I was shocked, then saddened, now enlightened. I've throughly enjoyed your company.
But for now, its midnight, i'm tired, had a long drive home so i'm gonna snuggle up with my wife (she's mumbling my name back there or something), then when morning comes.... thats it.
Starting tomorrow morning... I'll be gone from this board.
A bit reluctant in leaving... and friend,
Michael
