Are things really worse now?
by NikL inthis morning amidst the news of the possible terrorist attack involving planes from the
i told her that nothing happened.
she of course pointed out that this time it didnt but maybe next time.

Im going to go out on a bit of a limb here and say I think things are marginally worse. Terrorism has shown us a new face of warfare, bringing it into a much more public forum with community involvement. People never used to be scared to get on a plane for fear of it being blown up or worse - used as a weapon. People werent as scared to get on public transport, and with the exception of some areas around the world, it was unheard of for the general public to be caught up in bombings and acts of war.
Now, terrorism is in the community, its peoples next door neighbours, work colleages and as in the case of the London bombings, its sons of families, who claim to have had no idea what their sons were getting up. There were no advetisements on TV warning people to be alert to possible terrorist activity, unattended bags, suspicious looking packages...
Sure in terms of warfare and spread of disease things may be no worse now, and are possibly better with the invent of new pharmacueticals.
Im certainly not going to put my life on hold worrying about the next terrorist attack, Im not going to stop traveling, or catching public transport. I am however, a little more cautious in what I do and how I act. I really believe that the world is a more dangerous place to live now, than it was 50 years ago.

A Drunk MissPeaches
by chuckie77 ini had a phonecall last night from an intoxicated lady most of you will know as misspeaches.
it was hilarious, especially when she offered to send a photograph of herself to me in the middle east, to give to some philippinos that i work with!
of course in return they had to smuggle some alcohol onto the boat for me, fair trade i say!.

Crumpet, thats so true...
The number of times Ive had to either, apologise, explain, or just think really quickly the next day when trying to explain myself, is way too many to remember. I started giving my phone to my friends so that I wouldnt make any drunken calls/texts when I was out. I realised that was a really bad idea, after they thought it would be hilarious to send some drunken texts from my phone... More apologies, explanations and fast talking ensued!!!!!

Im so glad hes ok! I can understand all that you must be going through!
Ive been a paramedic for almost 9 years and every time I go to accidents caused by drivers who are DUI my blood boils. Fortunately in Australia they have what are termed "booze buses" where police will set up roadside testing facilities and stop all traffic passing on those roads to conduct random breath tests. If the test comes back as being positive for breath alcohol, the police will take them to the local hospital for blood tests, or, if the booze bus is set up, will take bloods then and there. The rate of DUI accidents has plummeted since police were given these powers.
I believe that doesnt happen in the States but would be a good thing if it did. Way too many people take way too many chances when they have been drinking, then decide to get in the car and drive home. I dont care if these people kill or injure themseelves from their own stupidity, its the people that are the inoocent ones I get emotional over.

I think being drunk and text messaging are the worst combination you can have. Ive woken up to find some absolute shocker text messages Ive sent to all manner of people wiht no memory of ever having sent them...

When I was a child I used to steal tins of condensed milk out of the pantry, I never used to be able to open them to eat, but that didnt stop me from getting them and trying to!

Misspeaches and her colleagues used to get smashed at work on a Friday afternoon, a bottle shop is a 2 minute walk from her offices. You can imagine the responses she gave when people contacted her for help desk support late on a Friday!!!

TERROR ALERT _ UK AIRPORTS in CHAOS
by Crumpet in'airlines terror plot' disrupted
all airports have been put under the restrictions

This is pretty bad isnt it, although some are going around saying its just another scare tactic by govts to stay in power... The cancellation of many flights and disruption thats causing would hopefully suggest otherwise.

I have just remembered your exact words, when telling me they should smuggle some alcohol onto the boat for me were:
"its not rocket surgery..."
Get me some of that red cab sav, as opposed to the white cab sav?!?!
