I have found something truly horrific.
by cultswatter inthis is big, very big.
bigger that pascal petite(well, just as big), bigger than the demonic hand or the rams head in the live forever book!!.
to present this properly, i will need a scan of the page in the live forever book where the thief is running from the police clutching a bag of goods.

by ppunk ini am hoping some of you will find a few moments of time to reply to this request for help.
i am researching the impact of the internet on people's journey out of jwism.

He is 85 years old. Has has two strokes. And just traveled around the world. I'd say he looks pretty good all things considered.
He has been such a tremendous force for my wife and I.
A very special person indeed. -

In (partial ) support of Danny Hazard
by stillajwexelder indanny you have been fearless in your exposing jws for the cult they are and the harm they have done and are doing.
keep up the good work.
but please be careful in what you do as this board and recovering xjws need people like you who are fearless in exposing the wt.

My point Annie is simple:
By spending a large portion of one's life in the pursuit of a negative nature (such as confronting stubborn JW defenders on a daily/hourly basis), one can lose balance and objectivity in the process in my opnion.
Which I believe is what happened to Danny Haszard and and the now infamous Youtube special.
The very few that I know of who advertised the video are all very much like Danny, fully involved in anti JW activism.
Your comments have not only not condemned Danny's handling of the matter, but even gone as far as stating that the JW's got what they deserved. This unhealthy viewpoint, IMO, is the result of the very same issue that caused Danny to take part in this sorry, embarrassing act to begin with; and caused Randy Waters and J Emerson to post, advertise and condone this sorry and embarrassing response as well. And that common denominator is that all of these folks are on what amounts to full time anti-JW campaigns.
Dealing with the JW's for over a year was very frustrating at times for myself. It mattered not what the facts and arguments supported. They would play all the games that you and I know all too well. The change the subject JW two-step shuffle. The political smokescreen moves. Convenient GET OUT OF DODGE vacations. When the going gets rough the JW's go take a nap... on and on.
There is NO REASONING with most JW's on any of the sites I have been a part of. Therefore the frustration and bitterness toward them overall can only accumulate.
Add to that that we are usually shunned and labeled, have lost family, friends and reptuation, plus are literally having to start over, can only add more insult to injury.
Add all of the above to the fact that these folks think they alone are the chosen ones by God Himself, and that all others religions and people of those religions will soon face complete destruction, it is fairly easy to see how we might tend to feel the very same way Danny feels and even DO what Danny just recently did. And then have others that are similar in activities support what Mr Danny has done.
This is what I believe has happend to you. Agree or disagree is fine with me. If you want to cut me off like the JW's that is fine as well. I stated very specifically why I think you need to step a ways back.
Obviously it is your life. I have no bitterness or ill feelings towards you at all.
I just hope you consider what I have said. I have to run, wifey is waiting...
My best to you and yours,
Vinny

(This was typed up on the other thread before they capped it).
Sunspot said:..."A few weeks ago you were warmly inviting me and hubby to your HOME in Hawaii---and today you throw zingers at me for offering my opinion on this subject. The IDEA that this entire situation stems from is that the JWs do not feel they have to abide by anyone's wishes BUT the WTS, no matter how many times and how many WAYS it is presented to them! IF they had NOT been on the property in the first place---we would not be having this conversation!! "
***** You are still welcomed to my home in Hawaii. Just one rule; NO COMPUTER TIME FOR YOU! You need to just get away from it all for a while IMO. Enjoy the nice weather, palm trees, tradewinds, sunsets, pretty gals for your hubby, lots o food etc etc... but NO DEBATES allowed. : )
There were many ways that Danny could have handled that whole thing. I saw the video. There was no reason to attack those two old men as he did. But this is what can happen when one loses objectivity and allows disdain and any kind of negative crusade to take over... it can lead to things regrettable. And it has.
Sunspot said:..."It is NICE that YOU have gotten your son back and out of the WTS and things in YOUR life are peachy, but some of us are not that lucky to have everything work out so well. So NOW you can sit back and criticize OTHERS for doing exactly the same thing that YOU were doing a few short months ago. Congratulations on your sudden transformation....your wings and halo are in the mail."
***** Actually I was hoping more for a Crown and Throne.... : )
For the record, I am still shunned by 1000 JW's on this small island in the middle of the Pacific. My stepson will not speak to me nor his own mother (who did is not DF'd or DA'd). Every single day I have to make sure that humpty dumpty wifey is put back together. She is HEART BROKEN from losing her son. They also have our first grandson (almost two years old now) that we have no idea what he even looks like. I also lost my biz partner and several employees. I am viewed as an unrepentant apostate and very dangerous person though have done nothiing wrong aside from disagreeing with current WTS teachings.
So, you might want to think a little bit next time before you tell me how great things are going for me...
Yet, most JW's are simply the same victims that you and I were not too long ago.
Deep down Annie, I believe you know there is truth to what I am trying to help share with you here.
So get hubby to come on down for a mini form of rehab with no computers and lot's of clean fresh air.
can you guys do the hula?

Is belief in God just the ultimate in CYA?
by nvrgnbk inpascal's wager.
blaise pascal offers a pragmatic reason for believing in god: even under the assumption that gods existence is unlikely, the potential benefits of believing are so vast as to make betting on theism rational.
critics in turn have raised a number of now-classic challenges.

"I would graciously accept and reciprocate."
*** Then I would have to reciprocate back. That's three quick cold ones....

I'm not sure how applying such a phrase to one's entire belief system would not at least raise an eyebrow.
But, I appreciate your taking the time to share your reasons.
A cold beer would be the next move.... on me.

I think my tone is much softer than that of some other atheists here.
*** Very true.
"If you like, I'll just leave."
**** If you left the JWD because of my post, I'd have to leave with you. Cause if I stayed, Id be run out of town...

"If you didn't get a reward, would you still believe? And what would be the benenfit of believing? "
*** I have been PUNISHED, and yet still believe. As you know, nobody leaves the JW's without significant repercussions.
There ARE benefits for believing. But they have nothing to do with WHY I believe. Thanks for asking,

"Sometimes being insulted is a good thing Vinny! Kinda gets your blood flowing, makes you think and gets you to defend your beliefs!"
***** Heh... I don't think you know my history to well. I have no problem mixing it up. The last thread I was involved with it was me against close to 50 atheists... for weeks. Same with the one before that... and another.
But Nvr has been doing this non-stop in my opinion. As have others. Is he really looking for answers? Or trying to continue his jabs at believers?
I have my opinion. Though I could be wrong. In the end, my oriniginal comment on this thread is the one that I stand by. Just in a nicer tone...
