  as some of you know, i started college 5 years ago for the first time at age 27. i had been out of the "truth" for 9 years at that time, but had just broken free of the mentality.

  well, on saturday i walked across the stage with the 130th graduating class at rocky mountain college!.

  after 5 years of working several jobs, taking care of two little boys as a single mom, and trying to get the most out of my college experience, i earned my master of accountancy, bachelor of science in business management, and minors in writing and organizational leadership.

  Any advice on how to stop attending meetings without being hounded?

  it seems many are attending without wanting to be there at all.. what suggestions can we offer?.

  I'm all for ripping the bandaid off quickly and moving through the aftermath sooner and quicker. Everything depends on the BOE...do any really "hound" anymore? All the ones I know are very busy juggling family, congregation responsibilities, life and don't do much follow up on inactive ones. Again, you would know your elders best. Mine called for about 6 mths, I just never returned the call, but I was scared during that time. It turned out fine.

  and the numbers appear to be as many as jws members.. ok, a mass demonstration.

  I agree with Blondie.

  "Taking a stand" is really important to JW's. When they shun, they are taking a stand against "opposers" and showing their god their loyalty. They don't really care about the feelings of the people they are shunning...they are taking their stand against the wicked. Until a person questions the leadership they follow, they rarely change their stand. They ignore, I ignored, any message against the WTBS.

  Group things with fellow apostates brings validation and comfort to each other. But there are things on a personal level that can be done.

  Hello... this is me and my story...

  i was raised as a jw, baptized in a 1998 district convention, somewhere in portugal.. studying with jws had some positive things (not many... just a few).

  i learned to read before going to school and developed this excelent skill of reading, interpreting and resuming texts.

  i was an excellent student.. as a teenager my life sucked (and i considered it a "privilege" at that time) because i simply couldn't enjoy these best years of my life, because had to avoid all contact with people of my age (there were no young people in my congregation) so i lived the best years of my life as a "forever alone".

  What could trigger a large proportion of JWs at once that this religion is a scam

  i am just thinking if there could ever be anything that would raise consciousness in the minds of millions of jws that this a completely hoax.

  Failed predictions didn't do it. Pedophile issue didn't do it. Change in blood "understanding" didn't do it. UN affiliation didn't do it. "Signs of the times" a none issue didn't do it. "Remnant" number increasing didn't do it. I could go on...

  My friend told me this week she did not give a s**t about the "society," but she needs a place to go.
