E-Watchman? Thoughts?
by thedepressedsoul ini stumbled upon the website e-watchman today and while i didn't have time to read over everything i found this thoughts so far quite interesting.
recently when reading matthew i can't help but feel that jesus warnings about the pharisees also applied to the gb and elders.
actually everytime jesus brought them up i realized how similar they are.

He was part of the Hollywood comedy club scene in the late 70's and we saw him several times. You didn't know what hit you when you saw his live show, as was with any of his live appearances. Those clubs were/are small and intimate, and you would many times have contact with the performer. Of course he wasn't a personal friend, but it feels a little like he was, we were all so young once.
He was well loved by those that knew him...which in and of itself is a great legacy.

Have you seen "Knock! Knock!"?
by compound complex ini thought it was a genuinely old silent movie.
it was prepared for the delegates of the international conventions.
a young man in a sound car goes to different homes in the neighborhood, and comes upon a bereaved husband with two young daughters.

"Dead Poets Society" kills me. I'm a sucker for the poet and power of words. He relays this so eloquently to his students in the film.
"Fisher King," "Hook," "What Dreams May Come," "Aladdin"... so many outstanding works. What a body of work he has left behind. Everybody was just so sad when we found out.
RIP Robin.

"We're calling on your neighbours to promote a website"
by Simon inwow, it's true - they don't call to 'promote god's kingdom' anymore but just their website!.
we just had an old lady call and tell us that was exactly what they were doing and it has "lots of good things on their for children".

How stupid is this?
A JW visits your door...to hand you a slip of paper, promoting a website...you go to the website, and request a JW to visit....
But wasn't there a JW already at your door, handing you the slip of paper?
^^^ This ^^^^
I'm using this one.

Just Curious About Something
by EmptyInside insorry, couldn't think of a better title for this post, without it being long.. i was thinking this morning,if ex-jws, who were born into the group less likely to join another religion after leaving.
vs. the witnesses who belonged to a church before joining the religion.. from my own prespective, being raised a witness,i have no intention of joining any religion.
and it seems that born-ins are less likely to join a religion after leaving the cult.. in my own experience,i think it's religious burn-out to tell the truth.

I was thinking this morning,if ex-JWs, who were born into the group less likely to join another religion after leaving. vs. The Witnesses who belong a church before joining the religion.
This has proven true for me. I was open at first to attending another church. I thought about the big Xtian super churches, just couldn't bring myself to go. Drove by a inviting small Catholic church on my way to early morning walks...doors open, warm glowing lights at 6AM. Eventually my first step into a non JW church service would be in this Catholic church on a Xmas eve evening service, about 11PM, really just out of curiosity. It was lovely, peaceful, friendly, open.
The next year I went to the same service is a Unitarian church with some other exJW's. Same thing...warm, inviting, beautiful, friendly. As we were greeting by the robed priest (are they priests? dunno) I told him the "exJW contingent had arrived." He just laughed and shook our hands. I understand that church is attended by lots of scientists and atheists, JPL is a local employer in the area.
After being a JW for 45 years, I feel I have had enough "religion" for 10 lifetimes and have no interest in it at all. I found I don't need it...which was a surprise to me. I do like the tradition and formality of a celebration from time to time, funeral, wedding, Xmas eve...for some reason. I have no idea why.

why Jehovah's witnesses? not yaweh witnesses?
by purrpurr inthis i never understood, the publications say that gods name translated from hebrew is yaweh.
why add a whole bunch of letters and vowels that change the sound of the name completely?
i've often thought surely we would gain greater respect on the ministry if we used a name that is historically and verbally accurate?.

Judge Rutherford faced a divided kingdom. He needed a device to weld the "faithful" into solidarity before securing total power.
By re-interpreting the meaning of Romans 13:1,2 he turned the members into law-breakers, civil protestors and Supreme Court test cases to make a high profile name for his new religious BRAND.
The theology/Doctrines of Russell had been about the invisible PRESENCE since 1874 of Jesus Christ as King.
Rutherford got rid of that idea and substituted "Announcing Jehovah's Kingdom" and the Society's books began teaching
the purpose of JW's was VINDICATING (a legal process) by Witnessing in clearing JEHOVAH'S NAME which Satan had challenged in the Universal Court of Law.
By making a fetish out of the name "JEHOVAH" and branding his invention as Jehovah's Witnesses, Rutherford accomplished his mission.
^^^^^ This is a very insightful analysis of the matter.
JW's are told they are so very special...knowing/using "God's personal name." They have sadly and ignorantly prided themselves on this fact. Rutherford and subsequent WT leaders did not count on this "system" TM lasting as long as it has, and that even the common/lay person would have at their fingertips all the knowledge in universe.
For decades the faithful hung on every word as if it came from Jah himself...all this special knowledge...only few would have the time and resource to question anything...including "God's personal name." Now in an instant you have unlimited references and opinions to question everything. Rutherford just picked "Jehovah" to be different from the rest.
It is a new day for those who wish it so.

Email CNN About Fredrick Mclean's Upcoming Appearance on "The Hunt" with John Walsh!
by BucketShopBill ini am getting a nasty feeling john walsh is not going to mention the kingdom hall and the watchtower's scandalous conduct of covering up their hard working productive elder pedophiles!
the watchtower put more effort in protecting their pedophiles than helping victims of the crimes.
i know elders are instructed to call hq first because the watchtower needs to figure out how to avoid any responsibility and instruct the elders to avoid as much contact with victims while guiding the pedophile through his trials and dangers!
