I'm gobsmacked. But I wonder what the loyal, everyday, congregation publisher thinks about it. -

It's never been a secret how to call a member at Bethel. I can't imagine why Cedars thought it would be.
That's the best he could come up with. Wow. Big deal. He tricked a guy who just picked up his phone. Isn't he special. He's so embarrassing.
Agree with notsosurewheretogo. I have a JW friend who just left the org. We were talking about something and she mentioned Cedars site. I can't remember quite her comments but they were something to the affect that there is something not quite right there. I never ever said a word to her about any of the crazy stuff that has gone on with Cedars and AAWA. I just told her people are all at different stages, and the world is big enough for all types of exJW's, and at least he has the freedom to be who he wants to be. That's about all I can say...

What really is the overall objective?
by My Name is of No Consequence inone cant help but notice all of the dramatic changes thathave been happening to the organization.
this is not the religion that i grewup in.
im not saying that the religion that i grew up in was better, justdifferent.

Quite honestly, most of us were complaining that the WT was not making changes and were out of date in almost everything. And rightfully, change is good because it should represent examination and acknowledgment of need to change or improvement.
What cannot ever be ignored is this is a corporation, a business. All decisions are made to keep the corporation/business afloat. That is all it is. New look, new marketing plan to keep the interest of the faithful so that they can think what they are doing is relevant.
The old folks, like me, find this new branding really odd...I sure didn't see this coming. But gotta hand it to them...it's SLICK!. They are distancing themselves from the past.
I thought it was so interesting one of the threads here about a discussion with a 30 something JW, and all she could say is "go to jw.org and all your questions will be answered.
It's amazing. Really amazing.

Counting service time in a creative way
by nevaagain incouting time and, how to count time while doing as little service as possible is often a hot topic around witnesses.
i even overheard pioneers discussing about it.
they call it "creative time counting" (i translated that phrase from a different language so bear with me ;-).

There were pioneers who decided to take up various languages, Italian, French etc., as well as sign language so they could "enhance" their pioneer hours with the travel time by following up return visits spread out all over the LA basin. I kid you not. Since the end was coming at "any minute," it seemed like a good idea at the time I guess.
@Phizzy: I too was very honest about reporting my time. I wasn't a pioneer, and had low hours anyway, didn't think it was right to exaggerate...even though I was told MANY times by elders to count the time I spent looking after the elderly ones, picking up various ones for the meetings/assemblies... I didn't.

Are people really happy at Bethel?
by The Searcher inif they are this happy, why do they keep taking down this video?

This song has been used in amateur videos by many.
I think, as was brought out, this is a reinvented WBTS, geared to try and keep the youth (a la LDS), as the older ones die off. And of course the plan is for this to go viral on youtube and wherever so as many people as possible will see it...including "worldly." Everything is exposed today including confidential BOE letters. Of course they anticipate this video to spread...I'm sure to combat the negativity out there about JW's.
It's a new day at the "house of god."

100%. For decades we all knew the tricks to "start our time."
I've heard in some rural areas they start with a "roll by", drive to the territory and count the time stopping for lunch if they share the "good new" with the waitress. And they feel quite holy about the whole thing as they shun their relatives.
You can't blame them...they are told over and over again to get and keep their numbers up to qualify for the pet tiger.

What I hate most is when I hear that song I'll think of Bethelites dancing around in the video.
On a side note, I think there are many people genuinely happy as JW's. It's the "volunteer" glow when you think you are saving the world being part of a group. I had former friends who would bemoan so many things as missionaries...but there they are singing songs and working on projects happy dappy as can be. We spent hours in the past discussing the problems with the organization. I think the new jw.org has infused many with hope that their years are not wasted. Doesn't mean they are 100% convinced, but the feel good glow is there. When you are in that little circle, reality seems a million miles away.

Who is your favorite "Apostate"? Who helped you see the truth about "The Truth"?
by minimus ini would have to say that ray franz was the biggest influence for me.. when i first got on this board, a poster by the name of james, a former bethelite and organization heavy, helped me understand a lot of the inner workings in the upper echelons of the society.. .
and of course, farkel's common sense approach was (usually) helpful..

I was already on the "I think they are full of s**t" road since 1995, but then saw "Dateline" and knew Barbara Anderson was the real deal. So she was my first apostate I was influenced by.
On the internet, Randy Watters with the scary website with the eyeball...so dangerous!
Read Ray Franz's experience online and finally understood what happened back there in the 80's.
Read Penton's and Carl Jonsson's books after I stopped going, and would say they just confirmed everything I had been feeling for years and years.
