Hey Jesus!
so today i did it.
i cut my dish network programming to basic....$20 a month ty very much.
instead i have $60 streaming device that gives me everything i need.
Oh gosh...this internet thing.
You are right about Dish. I started live chat a few times, but had to stop because it was taking too long and I was at work. BUT, I received 3 different responses when asked for the "basic package." Finally, I got $19.99 plus the rent of the boxes, which prob still is too high, but the savings just with that is $81 a month. One step at a time. I'd like to try an indoor antenna. I bought an Amazon one for $15 I think, and want to try it out. Of course, there is no recording of shows, which is just a lazy convenience. If I can see what I want on the internet or Hulu...then boom! Done.
I do know people who switch companies for the best deal when the contract comes up or negotiates with price when they can. I just work so much I don't have the energy to deal with "service" companies. I just posted on FB that AT&T terminated a grandfathered plan my company was on and our bill went from $680 to $1800 in one month. That was a fun conversation. I got it down, and credits, but talked with several people and had to do the "please may I talk to a supervisor" routine. It's exhausting.
so today i did it.

omg.
i have the entire service group coming over for dinner on sunday.
i don't mind when my wife has a couple over that are cool, but with more than 2 or 3 extra people in my house i get nervous.
Similar situation happened with a newly exited person with mate still in. The mate invited a group over for BBQ, and the exJW was really nervous. But, it was much as you say, friendly, no agenda, kept busy with the hospitality. I think they even walked down to see the Xmas celebration in the neighborhood. LOL. Ya just never know about these folks.

FTB - I feel you. No matter how long I'm out etc., the anticipation of hanging out with a group of JW's is nerve wracking. Anticipation is usually worse than the reality.
If their motive is to reach out to you, think of a simple comeback to have ready. Psyche yourself up to be super positive and happy and ask about them/their families/work...anything...it always gets them off track.
If it's strictly a social occasion for lunch, go with the flow. Same suggestions as the above paragraph. For some reason being strong and sure and turning the conversation back to them has always worked for me. Crisis averted.
Good luck!
a catchy little number this one!
curiously, this little known christmas song by perry como was actually the theme tune to the odessa file movie back in the 70's.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5l1uddoh-yu.
so what have you got?.

I just spent an hour last night cruising through Xmas songs to add to my playlist. My tastes are all over the place. I like pretty, I like R & R, I like classic...do not like Kenny G...he makes me want to kill.
I did find the Phil Spector album of Xmas songs, circa 1960. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BVYDdl2M0A&list=PL35F2FD72D6AEBCE7
Probably top is Springsteen "Santa Clause is Coming to Town."
Too many

Simon (and all) - I thought of another series that's pretty interesting, "Orphan Black." I think it's on Netflix, or amazon Prime.
Oh and tal, I just checked and Outlander continues in Paris next season. I.Can't.Wait.
