hi i've been a jw my whole life and i'm 17 now.

i've never had a mine of my own and recently i started thinking more open minded and i know the being a jw isn't for me.

i feel like i've been in a bubble my whole life.

Yep, you will see the JW life/view is so narrow... There will be some ups and downs with your family going forward. What has worked for me is to be very strong and happy in my own life. It is rather confusing for them because with every breath "it's the last days," which I've been hearing for decades. And frankly, most JW's I know aren't happy, they are confused and tired of it all...even with the new gimmicks they have. So it will be disarming to them to see you thrive. And thrive you will.

Glad you found us! We were all pressured by family to baptize...our families were trying to "save us." They never took the time to understand all repercussions of the the decision. So you will have to be an undercover agent for your own life. But it is worth it.

Thinking about it now, if I was pressured by my parents, I would strongly say, "Please do not pressure me. This is my choice isn't it? Let me make it when I am ready. Thank you." Then proceed to do what all has been suggested here. Find yourself. Life is long and short at the same time. Find something that you love to do and try to make that your career.

Your relatives will not understand. They are only repeating what they have been told. Find your own strength. Show them kindness and love, but don't give in to guilt or pressure. That is unkind to do to people.

We are here for you! Again welcome and we look forward to hearing more about you.

I watched Mr. Jackson last night with my super cult minded parents

i have seen some ask on this site how the active jw's are handling what is happening in australia.

here is my little experience from last night........ my parents were baptized in the late 30's as children and have never faltered in their determination to survive the great tribulation and live forever in paradise (even though they actively associate with all their df'ed kids).

my father is still actively serving as an elder and my mother has always been by his side.

I was thinking the same thing. Cult minded JW's would be very proud of Br Jackson's performance. And how engaged in theocratic warfare he would be shown to be keeping a whole courtroom enthralled as he was leading the defense with the silver sword.

We saw it all so differently. C'est la vie.

Geoffrey Jackson: "That would be presumptuous of us"...

within the first few minutes, mr. stewart asked geoffrey jackson if the members of the governing body consider themselves to be god's spokesperson on earth.. his response: "that would be presumptuous of us" (implying that they don't consider themselves to be god's sole channel of communication).. to me, that was the worst lie of about 26 lies he's told during this hearing.

however, mr. stewart missed an opportunity to call out mr. jackson on this bold-faced lie.

he should have asked him to explain why the watchtower magazine teaches otherwise.

There are so many gold nuggets from Br. Jackson. It's like Christmas and a birthday all at once. Thank you Geoff!

This quote is HUGE. Hopefully we can isolate a few of these statements so when asked if we believe the FDS is god's channel, we can say we agree with GB Br Jackson's statement.

The recent Royal Commission hearings have stirred up my emotions ....

i hope the royal commission will be able to force the jw organization to take a serious look at itself ,and will cause some much needed changes.. i have been following the trial faithfully ,and unfortunately it has dredged up some deep pains from years ago .

you think some of that old baggage is neatly packed away never meant to see the light of day again .....but then boom there it is again .. hearing what bcg had to go through, and how she felt trying to get help from the elders was heart-wrenching.

i remember the terrible way young women were treated in the 1970's .

I feel you troubled mind.

Hearing those women's testimonies took me back as well, and left me sad and a little lost for a few days. It reminds me how little female lives matter in the organization as well as the world.

Back to the WT, I concur 100%. A clergy/overseer class filled with uneducated yes men is what they wanted and that is what they got. Finally the veil is drawn and they can now pay for the arrangement with a damaged reputation, loss of followers and $$$.

WBTS is a corporation and decisions are made for the benefit of the corporation.

Discounts provided by the WBTS have been used throughout the years for various things, and decidedly for everyone's benefit. But the main benefactor is the WBTS.

I wouldn't be surprised if they offered discounts on Apple products or tablets at some point. It's a revenue stream.

while i'm glad that the practices of the wts are under review and the australian commission is taking them to task, i'm not really expecting huge changes in the long run.

oh, they may have to agree to some changes in how they report crimes brought to elders' attention, but this excitement over the supposed expose of wt practices shall pass, and jws will soon be canvassing neighborhoods and rolling their carts, looking for converts.

conventions will go on.

The genie cannot be put back into the bottle. By having these proceedings on youtube, it is forever out there to stumble upon. I agree that very little will be changed in the corporation. I think most long term faithful will not be see these videos. But this 2, 3 4th generation are out there looking at stuff on youtube all the time and will find it.

The corporation will spin the numbers in the coming years, as they always have. But there will come a time when it will be harder to cover the decreases. They are shoring up their survival by the automatic monthly funding, and real estate investments. I will say all but 3-4 of my former friends are still in. Still in, and I think struggling. Future generations though will not be so blinded. It will be harder and harder to make a living, let alone without some additional education. The legal cases will hit the news. Little dents will continue to be made on their shiny surface.
