  Lost on how to respond...

  so an old friend of mine from the congregation hit me up today.

  the story goes like this when we were jw's:.

  - this guy used to be madly in love with me but i didn't see him as anything more than a friend.

  The last highlighted paragraph is a doozy. But it is the cult mind speaking, and we don't speak the same language anymore.

  If I felt consideration for the person, I think I would just answer positively and thank him for his thoughtful response. Keep the communication as such that if down the line he had issues with JW he could approach you. I make it clear I'm happy and well and glad they are the same. It seems to befuddle the JW's I know. They expect us to be "sighing and crying" in our lives. When we are not, they seem to not know what to say.

  morning warship - he was the only restraint and i'm not saying that lightly.

  i know there are a dozen others here who were in bethel back in the early 2000's who know what i'm talking about.

  he actually kept me thinking this was jehovah's org because of his sincerity as if the holy spirit was operating in him.

  Dan used to pioneer in the S California area when he was young. Our congo brought him out many times to visit and give talks...he also gave the dedication talk to our remodeled hall.

  One Saturday I was at MFS, and there was this older gentleman milling about in a baby blue suit. I didn't know who he was so I went up and introduced myself and he stuck out his hand and said, "Hi! I'm Dan!"

  I will say he gave warm, funny off script talks...would say "God bless you all" to the congregation. He seemed genuine. I think he tried to do what he felt was right, but he was a company man...no inside apostate. Just back in the early days those guys could be more individual...they didn't all have to march in goose step.

  I am losing

  i haven't posted anything for a bit, but wanted to express how i am losing this battle.

  it has been over 3 years now since i woke up about watchtower.

  the battle that i am talking about is the tug of war with my wife (i adore her immensely), watchtower is winning, she simply will not give in to my so-called negative thoughts about the religion that we are in.

  After 20 years surely by now she should be able to discern the man you are without the help of anybody including the WT. If she uses the WT as an excuse to assault your value as a man and husband, there is a larger problem there than the religion.

  Blaming you for her weakness is a a clue.

  Hope things work out for you.

  I dont know how i can leave my family!

  my mom and i were talking today about how next summer i will be 18 and she said that just thinking about it might make her cry.

  that made me think about how much more it would hurt her if i quit being a jw.

  i really do love my parents, i know they are just being cruelly manipulated by a cult and that they really think they are doing what is best for me.

  We were never encouraged to develop our own individual goals and wants in order to live the life we are meant to live. So it feels weird to focus on ourselves to find that information.

  But that is what it takes to live the life you should live...and not how others, (parents, WTBS), say you should live. Living fully your own life will give you a happy life.

  Hurt will come, 100%. But the hurt comes from seemingly well intentioned others trying to make you stay in the box they think you should be in. If they were not so intent on that, there would be no hurt.

  It's part of the journey but it is so much better if you start it while you are young. Be reassuring and confident with your mom, and maybe she will give you room to fly.

  A faded JW about to see the Circuit overseer

  so my mum who is in and really is finding it hard that i have left and faded.

  shes asked me if i want to the the circuit overseer next week.. i have never met him and this is more my mum wanting me to get my problems i have with the organisation out.

  but should i share everything i've learnt or what?.

  Tell mom you've taken it to prayer with Jehovah, and it is between him and you. Have her know you appreciate and understand her concern, and just continue to reassure her everything will be fine. There is really no need to meet with the CO. Don't do it.

  I never wanted to make my poor mom worry about me more than the WT would make her worry. They don't deserve it.

  Uh boy. I watched about 10 minutes. I feel like if this was broadcast in a KH the whole place would be snoozing in a matter of minutes.

  I wonder how these videos are really received by the congregations. My brother, an elder/COBE, raves about them. But I think he's trying to convince me...or possibly himself...I'll never really know.

  i am doing investigation on the early history of the bible students / jehovah's witnesses.

  one resource that is turning out to be extremely useful is the brooklyn eagle.. .

  the brooklyn eagle was a newspaper that had a lot of animosity against the watchtower society.

  there was/is a sister in my old hall who was a pharmaceutical sales rep and she was a huge proponent of anything in the drug industry.

  when someone had a headache, she was the first to say "take an asprin.

  " now my husband and i are what you might call old hippies.

  HI411, I think you are doing it right!

  I've seen a lot of protocols come and go. Seems like moderation in most things, avoid the items that seems to disagree with our bodies, (dairy etc), work the best for me. A bum knee is the only ailment I have, and sometimes I take ibuprofen for that, and other than that, I take no medication and my last assessment said I was in good health.

  Buy organic when possible, if not, I hear it is most important to still eat your veggies anyway.

  I still get interested in alternative medicine...some are crap and some have value. Traditional cancer treatment has it's wins...but it also seems quite rigged and not open to anything not within Big Pharma. If I had cancer, I just don't know what I'd do. That's a spooky one. Having just lost a friend a few months ago to cancer...and it just sucks.
