Oh I remember it like it was only yesterday...
My mom giddily telling me, "Just think you will never grow old!"
Fast forward about 30 years, mom was 87 or so I think, and out of the blue she just looked at me and said, "I'm not going to make it." She lived another 11 years, and she was right about that but wrong about the other. I'm old now.
Thanks mom.

How the Bethel family responded to the bethel layoffs (profanity warning ***)
by Brokeback Watchtower ini think we can say many of those laid off no longer trust the governing body because of being lied to repeatedly over so many things.
things are getting very explosive at the governing body's home location kind of ties right in with being moved to a seriously pcp contamined chemical dump site, in fact bad karma has come to rest where ever these stupid lying clowns go.
these gbs are a bunch of real ass holes and they treat the faithful shit and expect them to just take it like a bunch of dummy drones.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8kuldpksze.

Totally appropriate reactions. I'm mad as hell and I'm not a Bethelite!
I hope more and more see the video.
I was on a Bethel tour (long story) in 2007. While we were waiting for our ride to the airport, a very disgruntled 20+ year front desk guy was grumbling with a few other workers about the same. Here it is almost 10 years later from then!

Kids continue to leave in droves - so what is the organization's grand plan? This
by sir82 injws have one of the worst, if not the worst, retention rates among their kids.
i've seen numbers from 65% to 88% who leave, never to return.. you'd think this would be a priority amongst the leadership, right?
where do tomorrow's leaders come from, if the vast majority of kids leave the organization?

Good discussion.
I'm amazed at the time and effort the WBTS has put forth in their pixar-like videos for kids. As has been mentioned, as cute and fluffy as they are, the message is divisive, scary and mean. If kids watch any secular programs, the message is tolerance and love which I think is the message we are instinctively attracted to. The WBTS is a master at doublespeak and mixed messages and I think kids will feel it just like we all did. I haven't met one born-in exJW that got behind the destruction depicted by all those scary pictures we were raised with. Kids, bicycles, dogs falling down crevices at god's great war...scary ladies sitting on scarlet red dragons...it didn't seem "right."
If they wanted to retention, HQ would have to care more about the flock than the corporation. They never have and they never will.

Stem cells - Watchtower position
by Dagney indoes anyone know the wt's position on medical treatment using stem cells?
i don't even know how to go about finding out this information.
if anyone could tell me where to look or what the current position is by the society, i am most appreciative.. i would like to recommend the treatment to a jw relative, but don't want to get involved in an argument if it is forbidden.

OrphanCrow, I sure remember the boom when the AIDS epidemic hit. My doctor even told me, "well, I guess you guys had it right!" In my smug arrogance at the time, I agreed. sigh
Sooooo, the co-worker who had the treatment came back to work today. She told her JW brother about the treatment because his wife has RA. I think he might have called Bethel because my coworker said "he checked with the society and it is up to his own counsel." Coworker doesn't know to use the word "society"; she is 100% Catholic and teaches catechism.

So.Much.Fun.
The society hadn't come down completely on fun and huge groups would just go dancing. We'd close the club, go for food at 3am, and roll into Sunday morning meeting.
Life is all about balance.

That is interesting OrphanCrow. Who knew!
Stem cell seem to be the answer to almost any illness. One lady from Australia has 3 kidneys! One was transplanted, one hers, and another one is growing. When she is done she is going to donate the transplanted one back into the system. Her medical doctors are speechless.
So yay Canada for getting the ball rolling!
