  what's the current jw stance on retirement savings?

  i know it changed.

  pre1975 it was an attitude of "don't worry about retirement, this system is ending soon".

  On life choices I’d say it’s prob best to do the opposite of what the WT says.🤣🤣

  Balaam, what a tragic story of her own choosing. Glad you made your own way and have the lovely 3rdgen.

  I sort of felt all along this paradise thing wasn’t going to happen. But, I didn’t buckle down till later to save for retirement. It’s was dumb but I have a fair amount as I did the max for a number of years that I can breathe. Honestly, there are so many at my work that don’t take advantage of the 401K, without the cult excuse. 🤷‍♀️

  So, 60 Years Ago

  so, folks, 60 years ago, starting on september 1st, i believe, we, local witnesses in southern california, had the "privilege" of attending the "around the world assembly", at, of all places, the rose bowl, in pasadena.

  (i think that it was an 8-day assembly) i was 9 years old then, almost ready to start 4th grade.

  so, was anyone else, on this site, at that assembly?

  Imagine the oneupmanship of deftly being able to manipulate these volumes quicker than his anal fellow worshiper. What a waste.

  OMG what a waste is right. But...it's a "publishing company."

  Off the subject but I just cringe when I think about all the bound volumes I ordered to complete my library and how I had to toss them in recycle. Ugh.

  I was there! I was 8. Do you mean those clip on chairs than attached to the bench? It was weird the stuff you could order through the literature counter at the hall.

  I remember it was an international convention and there were a lot of people wearing full native costumes and getting their pics taken on the field. I remember thinking those poor ladies in the kimonos because it was soooo hot. The stadium was so packed I remember sitting outside on folding chairs.

  Also remember the constant reminder that the oleander bushes were poisonous! I was scared to death of them and still to this day!

  Ahhh the “Babylon” book. I had to memorize a three scripture sermon to offer that book door to door. At eight years old.

  i'm a single sister ( in usa) that has been baptized for 20 years.

  i came from the world, so did not grow up in the truth and i have no family in the truth -- i am alone.. last year i met a brother & we did have premarital sex while we were dating.

  I guess I can't wrap my head around the need to confess something that has already been resolved. I wasn't aware that repentance had to involve the elders because I had already repented on my own.

  What makes sense and sounds reasonable without the dogma of the JW religion makes no difference to the elders and organization. Every sin must be punished, they are all about punishing. You might have thought "hey I've been through a really difficult time and made some mistakes," and the elders would be there for some guidance and shepherding. That's not how it works. Punish first, and if they feel there is enough remorse, then they let you back in. Then if you perform well enough for a period of time under their observation, then maybe some shepherding.

  They can df you without wrongdoing. They can df you for not showing up to a meeting. They can df you for anything they want. I'm not exaggerating. There are hundreds of examples on the internet. Google it.

  I was told by an elder before going into a meeting with elders, not a JC, "you win no battles with elders." And as mentioned, the cards are usually stacked against women in JC meetings.

  There are many options for meeting people in a new city. Meetup offers tons of options. The local congregation would be very limiting, especially if you are df'd. It sounds like you wish to remain a JW, what TonusOH said above is what to expect, your mileage may vary.

  This is a perfect opportunity to start new. The marriage was short and no children. These feelings and issues you are having about how the elders treated you will most likely not go away. I recommend seeking counseling with a qualified therapist with experience in high control groups before making any life changing decisions.

  Man... this guy! He is so focused on himself and his defense he cannot see the absurdity of the statements he makes.

  He should not have ANYTHING to do with ANYBODY who has suffered sexual/emotional abuse of any kind. He is a predator.

  We knew from the get go here he was a tool, unreasonable and vindictive, to say the least. But he is far far worse.

  Regional Convention Attendance

  elder friend of mine texted me asking what my rc attendance was 2 weeks ago (family and i streamed it since wife is not well).

  he told me that his rc in the jersey city assembly hall last weekend was low.

  co told them that around 2600 were the total from 16+ congs that were assigned.

  I tried to watch Six Screens, as that convention location is where I live and attended. Those pictures though, wow. It used to be such a vibrant occasion and the location was very sweet by the ocean. Now, less than 3K in attendance! I didn't think it would be that low, and there are 12 conventions scheduled. Surprising also NO bibles. I know they use the App, but still!

  This low attendance is good news to be sure, the REAL Good News! What a dreadful time to be a JW. And creepy.
