I decided long ago, that even if the "new system" were real, if I had to live forever with the people at the KH, it would really be hell on earth.Blondie
Same here, that was also a thought my wife as she was coming round to the lies.
i sent my mum an e-mail the other day to let her know about steve irwin's tragic accident.
this morning i got her reply:he will thrive in the new system when he will be able to get up close and personal with all wild creatures without fear.
tis really sad as he was a good genuine man.. .

Notice wat the girl said in this report
http://www.940news.com/nouvelles.php?cat=23&id=90780
The girl said she has come to terms with the fact she went against her church's teaching because everyone understands she didn't have the transfusion willingly.
"I had the support of all my friends and my peers knew I refused it and it wasn't my fault I got the transfusion," said the teen. "They weren't shunning me or anything."
She said she takes further comfort in her Bible readings.
"God really cares for me and he knows what happened, but he forgives me."
That poor girl, why would she feel she need God's forgiveness for something she had no control over anyway? Was she expecting to be shunned? The Watchtower not only was willing for her to die but now she is living is causing her psychological trauma.
a couple of years ago after talking about 1975 and the generation change with 2 elders i asked them what we would call another religion if they were wrong with dates and had to change prophecies.
no answer was forthcoming so i offered "false prophets?".
one elder agreed we probably would, the other was deadly silent.. anyway i thought i would look up false prophets and found this... *** g93 3/22 pp.

g93 3/22 pp. 3-4 Why So Many False Alarms? ***But why has there been such a tendency through the centuries and down to our day for false alarms to be sounded, as Jesus said they would be? (Matthew 24:23-26)
There are some who make spectacular predictions of the world’s end to grab attention and a following, but others are sincerely convinced that their proclamations are true. They are voicing expectations based on their own interpretation of some scripture text or physical event. They do not claim that their predictions are direct revelations from Jehovah and that in this sense they are prophesying in Jehovah’s name. Hence, in such cases, when their words do not come true, they should not be viewed as false prophets such as those warned against at Deuteronomy 18:20-22. In their human fallibility, they misinterpreted matters.
[Footnotes]
Jehovah’s Witnesses, in their eagerness for Jesus’ second coming, have suggested dates that turned out to be incorrect. Because of this, some have called them false prophets. Never in these instances, however, did they presume to originate predictions ‘in the name of Jehovah.’ Never did they say, ‘These are the words of Jehovah.’ The Watchtower, the official journal of Jehovah’s Witnesses, has said: "We have not the gift of prophecy." (January 1883, page 425) "Nor would we have our writings reverenced or regarded as infallible." (December 15, 1896, page 306) The Watchtower has also said that the fact that some have Jehovah’s spirit "does not mean those now serving as Jehovah’s witnesses are inspired. It does not mean that the writings in this magazine The Watchtower are inspired and infallible and without mistakes." (May 15, 1947, page 157) "The Watchtower does not claim to be inspired in its utterances, nor is it dogmatic." (August 15, 1950, page 263) "The brothers preparing these publications are not infallible. Their writings are not inspired as are those of Paul and the other Bible writers. (2 Tim. 3:16) And so, at times, it has been necessary, as understanding became clearer, to correct views. (Prov. 4:18)"—February 15, 1981, page 19.
The Watchtower then are clearly not False Prophets because they do not make their predictions "in the name of Jehovah". Well do you know of any other group using the name of Jehovah to make predictions? If not then the prophecy about False Prophets (Mathew 24:24), cannot be fullfilled.
A couple of the quotes are taken from 1883 ,1896. I wonder if there is anything else they said then than has not been replaced by "New Light"?
Anyway my real point is this, the Watchtower is not inspired and not infallable the writers are not inspired but JWs have to follow the the Watchtower to the letter. Why were we so stupid?
.
i didn't personally take part in the building of this assembly hall, but i did know one of the brothers who helped with the design of it.. i also have a brochure of the assembly hall itself, detailing the legal obstacles that had to be overcome in order to build the hall.. i've not seen the hall personally, but understand it is a unique design.. did anyone help out on this building project?
Is that the one that is sunk into the ground? If it is we went on a trip with the cong to visit it during construction. Why oh why would you want to go visit a building site for pleasure? What a good dub I must have been.
Incidentally, it was a cold day when we went and the sister showing us round part of it was wearing trousers. The sisters in our cong wanted to know how she managed that. She said it was a struggle but after pleading she was told okay but then told they must be smart trousers. As if she would have worn jeans! How did we not see the level of control I suppopse we did... eventually
I might just mention the rumours tomorrow to one or two of my friends. It's her book study tomorrow, and though I doubt she knows who Jaracz is, I'd bet she asks, and mentions the rumours.
Now thats an idea, if we all mention the rumours to an active dub...
where did all the witnesses over the decades get the idea that armageddon was right around the corner?
the society certainly never put anything like that down in print:

But now, by occurrence of every detail of the great sign Jesus gave, we know that we face the imminent end of the present world system.
we were building a new kh- not quick build- and we had to vacate the old building and the new kh was not finished.
the elders decided to cancel all the meeting with the exception of the tuesday night bookstudy in homes.
we had no other meetings for about 4-5 weeks.
Someone superglued the lock on the door so no one could get in. Everyone had to go to the bookstudy group to go through the Watchtower study
Also the stand in sometimes went overtime because he hadn't practised - a double whammy!!What a waste those impromtu talks were. Usually a brother pulled out his favorite talk outline that he had done 10 times in the past year- which made it the third time for us to sit through it. What a pain it was for the kids to sit through the talk after the WT study when they did that.
Not only that but it was always the elder who liked the sound of his own voice, and he would deliver the talk in such a way so as to show how clever he was.
in the congregation that we used to go to, and my parents and most of my relatives still do, very few had hobbies and interests other than being bound to the wtbts.. many made wine and brewed their own beer.
infact, all of my relatives are wine and beer makers.
there are a few gardeners, but i'm hearing how they are trying to grow their own grapes and fruit so that they can make their own wine!.
Hobbies are discouraged because if you have time for a hobby you could be doing more for "Jehovah". Not only that from my experience if you are an active JW there is actually little time to have a hobby.
Here are a couple of examples.
*** w04 8/15 p. 24 Tired but Not Tiring Out ***
. One married couple decided to eliminate some of their hobbies and nonessential personal projects. They actually went through their things and literally packed all the materials related to such projects and put them out of sight. Periodically, we can all benefit from taking inventory of our habits and possessions, putting off every unnecessary weight so that we may not get tired and give out in our souls.

w02 8/1 p. 31 Earnest Effort—When Is It Blessed by Jehovah? ***. The temptation is to give up in the struggle and become another casualty of Satan’s assault. He may use any of the means at his disposal, be it entertainment or recreation, sports or hobbies, careers or material prosperity, to achieve his designs.
I like this one from 1945 the danger of photography
w54 8/15 p. 508 Endurance Through Hope ******

Hobbies are so varied today that they range from the sedate stamp-collecting to the vigorous athletic exercising. By way of illustration we shall take the common hobby called "photography." A brother finds that this hobby furnishes him much pleasure. His camera records many delightful theocratic assemblies and personal experiences. His "own interests" tell him he needs to keep up with all aspects of this hobby. He buys numerous magazines and reads them. Soon he starts to read books on this hobby, spending more and more time on a "lawful" pursuit. Meetings may be missed to keep up with the latest "camera" magazine. He may even feel it necessary to associate with those outside the truth to learn more about his hobby. This brother’s "lawful" interest has grown to a point where it threatens to undermine his hope. If his "own interest" is not checked and put in its theocratic place, shipwreck is ahead..
our congregation had some of the best circuit overseers money could buy!.

there has been a couple of threads about death just lately and it got me thinking about what funeral i would have.
i hope it won't be for many years yet though.. when you are a dub it would have just happened.. when i was fading i would have just accepted that it would have been what my wife wanted.
i would have also had to have a dub funeral for her.
I think it would be good to plan your funeral as this would help those left behind. I suppose what you do depends on if you view it as for the deceased or the bereaved. Cremation for sure.
Maybe I could think about the contents of the service. I like the idea of a chosen song, maybe Search for the Hero by M People.
I'm not sure about donating for research though.
