I think you handeled that well Lyndi.
I really think the only way to respond to people whether they be jw's or not, is through love and compassion. I think we forget sometimes how terrifying it was to let our minds open up enough to think the jw's were wrong. it is a paralyzing moment. no wonder they get defensive.
good job to you!

It's sadly comforting to me....
by megsmomma inwhen i read of others stories, and seeing how smart, caring, loving, and reasonable they are....and yet even they have family that won't be reasoned out of the watchtower mentality....it comforts me so much.
but, then i feel wrong sometimes to feel that way....because i wish none of us had the pain of feeling like we have lost loved ones out there.
then again, i would rejoice with anyone who finally gets their loved one to leave the cult, and i pray for everyone to find success.

I Don't Believe in God, or wait, Maybe I Do. . . a little wisdom please?
by Pioneer Spit...oh, i mean Spirit ini am conflicted as to whether i can or even want to believe in god.
(using capital g out of respect) i can't separate love of god and my jw life.
i pioneered for 10+ years, and thank goodness for that, because i can now easily memorize anything and read upside down.

****As a JW I believed that God is an angry God who feeds on our soldiering endurance and tears, and we can appease him by being superior to others. ****
those were also the same qualities that *gods* of ancient Egypt, Greece, etc. displayed. they were only myths- correct?
I can understand your inner conflict. I've been there also. try to understand that the *god* we were taught as jw's was a faceless, powerless, ancient tribal god that could very well have been cousins with Baal, Artemis, Nanginal, etc. that's all he was.
but *god* (I cringe to use that word because of the conditioned response it can induce) or as I like to label it - *infinite inner wisdom* is something that starts from a dark, silent, motionless place deep within you. you are divine and you hold all the divinity you will ever need to be spiritually whole again. it takes time to find it. anger and inner frustration are a beautiful blessing. they are birth pangs before something majestic arrives in your path.
you may want to try meditating. it brings answers and peace and *god* -

What effect does 'Apostate Pressure' have on the bOrg?
by AK - Jeff inwill increased pressure - pickets, websites, books, letters to fellow witnesses, have a positive or negative impact on the ultimate goal most apostates have - seeing the organization eventually crumble and fall?.
my take is that more pressure is good.
it makes the 'real personality' of the organization express itself in greater oppression, more demands, greater efforts to isolate the flock from education, career, family, reality.. eventual result of oppression is rebellion.

hey jeff - no offense but I don't think apostate pressure does much for the VAST MAJORITY of wits.
I know we'd like to think efforts here on this site or others will bring the wt down, but for every one lurker here there are 50 happy jws. the VAST MAJORITY will NEVER look at sites like this.
I'm not saying to ease up on the apostate pressure because it does help those few that do look.
people are going to do what they want. if that means looking on jwd or plodding along year after year as a witness. it's just human nature. we can't bring down human nature.
when more humans become enlightened and take personal responsiblity I think we will see a huge decline in religious numbers - from all faiths. -

I just got one of *those* calls from my son's school
by daystar in*sigh* the joys of parenthood.. i just got a call from my son's school.
he gets picked up by his after school care in a van.
all the kids who get picked up are lined up outside to get ready for their rides.. my son decides it's a good idea to pick up a stick and throw it, hitting a car and putting a small dent in it.

wow. first of all breathe, and chill out!
I have a five and eight year old. my five year old has thrown things in the house, yard, etc. and then realized as the object was flying through the air - uh-oh! I shouldn't have done that! (you could tell by the expression on her face)
have you asked him why he did it? maybe he was playing around with his friends and threw the stick and it just so happened to hit the car. it doesn't sound malicious at all, and he is probably feeling bad about it. did he tell you about it before the school called? what was his reaction when you brought it up to him? I'd go by those things to decide a punishment.
it's actually kind of funny to me. He probably crapped his pants when he realized what he did. I do agree that he should have some sort of consequence but that is up to you to decide. you know him best and what sort of consequence would have the most effect and lesson.
seriously though - he's just a kid who likes to blow off some steam after sitting like a good little boy all day at his desk! ugh! I'd probably be tempted to throw a stick if I had to do that all the time! :)
ah. the joys of parenthood. :)
just my 2 cents. -

How do you feel about Tatoos?
by Fisherman ini feel very offended and distrurbed when i see people covered with tatoos.
some people have tatoos all over their bodies, even on their faces.
there are also tatoo programs on the tlc channel that children can watch without a forewarning before the show comes on.

I put my dear old dog to sleep
by Jez inafter 2 months of old age and illness, 2 cancelled vet appts, hoping he would get better, tears, frustration, watching him not eat, throwing up, becoming skin and bones, justifying keeping him, i stuck to this morning's appointment.. he was with me for the last 12 years of my life and his life has been entwined in so many of the memories i have.. to tell you about him, would be an essay.
i just want everyone to know that he was so close to me.
in the end, i kissed him on his head, said, "good boy, you're a good boy" and he laid his head on my hands and went to sleep.. i love you and will miss your crazy dog ways.
