jw.org cart days numbered?
by jookbeard inreading a report of an elder in a friends cong has been hiding and spying on the pioneers who seem to have a practise of dumping the cart and finding a local coffee shop, i've noticed that they do this in my local high street as well but this week they seemed to be all huddled around the cart, they've clearly been warned, a vast percentage of the time i see they seem to be more interested in fiddling with their mobile phones and gossiping, is just seems these carts are a means for the pioneers to turn in "easy time" i wonder what sort of figures show how much literature is being taken by the public?
i bet its very minimal.
naturally the gb would say they are a phenomenal success , we clearly know they are not.

If Watchtower was profiting from literature, they would be concerned about the carts. I think it's the opposite. Carts keep JW'S out in "service" with minimal placements. Profits come from the members' pockets so keep giving them easy service time. Money from mags, books is down so don't pressure anyone to place them. It's bizarre when members see easy time counting as a good thing instead of a waste of time. -

Feeling indifferent
by campaign of hate inright now, at this point in my life, i feel like i should be angry, sad, upset, annoyed, whatever emotion that most of you guys here feel or have felt.. but the overwhelming feeling i get, and i have got since waking up, is indifference.. i think that this might be my subconscious coping mechanism.
when i go to the meetings or take part in any other wt related activity, i don't care.
i just really couldn't care less.. i mean, i do care, but i think it's more a fascination now about the whole thing.

Right now, you are still "in" the cult, active to some degree. It is highly possible that your coping mechanism is a type of numbness to it all. That and a dose of curiosity about it all is fully understandable.
Plus, different people will react differently to their situations. We should not be surprised that one is bitter and another is indifferent. Heck, some put on a great attitude of joy that they are out.
If you think there might be a depression in there, pay attention to your own thoughts and see which way it develops. I think that every single person who was in, is in, left, did not leave, etc. would benefit from professional counseling. Most won't go, largely due to the cost factors. So, just keep an eye open to yourself if you think you are okay, but not so sure.

JW NFL Player Retires
by Barrold Bonds inthis is news to me, despite somewhat following the steelers.. http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2015/03/11/steelers-free-agent-jason-worilds-announces-his-departure-from-football/stories/201503110155.
with all the surprises that were delivered around the nfl tuesday, jason worilds has pulled another.
the steelers free agent linebacker announced early this morning that he was leaving football.. and the steelers believe he means it.. steelers sources told the post-gazette today that they believe worilds, who became an unrestricted free agent on tuesday, is serious about walking away from football at the age of 27 to work for his religion, jehovahs witnesses, and that there is no hidden agenda involved in his decision.. i appreciate all of the interest from the organizations that have reached out to us the past few days, worilds wrote on twitter.

I can hear the interview at a convention:
"I walked away at the peak of my athletic career to stand next to a literature cart. I don't need tens of millions of dollars, what I need is to serve Jehovah, and by 'serve Jehovah,' I mean 'obey Watchtower.'"

They can always have hundreds or even thousands of volunteers make all kinds of improvements to this place and sell it later if they have their own building on their own compounds later. Along with JW.TV , it's their new thing. -

Jehovah's Witnesses- Scientology for famous black people. (Especially musicians and athletes.)
Edited to add:
I actually admire someone who can walk away with their first several millions and not be needing to prove anything more. It's just a shame that it has to be to work with the cult. -

Memorial Date this year, why so far out ?
by Phizzy inwe have debated for many a long year on jwn about the "proper" date for the passover/memorial and my conclusion is that jw's get it all wrong for a number of reasons, but as the gospels are contradictory, nobody can say for sure.. most years they are close to the time by a day or so, signalled by the full moon occurring about then.. i believe this year they have chosen saturday april 11th.. this is a full week, near enough, away from the full moon.. what has gone on with their calculation ?.

When I celebrate, I never get the actual time it should be celebrated wrong.
(Yes, you can easily figure what I mean.)

A couple questions for atheists on Suffering
by little_Socrates inwho told you that the world should be free from suffering?.
do you find any value in suffering?.
do you think it is possible to experience all the beauty and goodness and pleasure the world offers without also experiencing the bad?

From page 1: I am just trying to turn it around and see if I can get atheists to defend and explain their positions. Usually theists are the ones that always have to defend themselves
First of all, HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !!!!!!!! That's rich. I don't believe in the garden of Eden and all the unsupported miracles in the Bible and God has not shown himself, but I have to defend my position. Please defend your nonbelief in any of the myriads of gods of mankind.
If some suffering is useful and valuable, where do you draw the line to what is just pure evil?
I am pretty sure I answered that in my last comment and Cofty answered similarly.
I want to add that with all the thoughts on the benefits of suffering, LS must think that God and the angels are really lacking because they don't suffer. And if you say they suffer through us, then why can't we suffer through the agony of plants or nonliving matter?

I don't want to spoil my answer by reading other fine answers, so I will skip reading until later.
Who told you that the world should be free from suffering?
Not even addressing the fallen condition of man described in the Bible which necessitates "the Law" and the "ransom." Let's just go right to birth defects and child abuse and the 2004 tsunami that swept away tens of thousands of children and the 2010 Haiti earthquake that also killed tens of thousands of children and maimed others. What jerk of a god stands by and lets that happen? A "God" could have easily just caused such a thing as a tragic tsunami or earthquake to not happen rather than provide a revealed miracle.
Do you find any value in suffering?
If people got some value out of the disaster, the price was too high. The agony of parents and grandparents and siblings was too much to ask for even if all those children get some future reward. If people get some value out of knowing about child abuse, the abuse for even one child is a price too high.
Do you think it is possible to experience all the beauty and goodness and pleasure the world offers without also experiencing the bad? Isn't good only good because we know what bad is? If there was only good would it really be "good"?
I have heard that and don't go along with it. I get that challenged people do more than unchallenged people, but I don't believe we need tens of thousands of children to die so that people can appreciate surviving. We could easily discuss the beauty and goodness and pleasure that children can find in a world without traumatic and sexual abuse.
If you where God and could eliminate suffering what would the world look like? Or conversely if there was a loving God what should we expect the world to look like?
I don't typically bother with such a "what if" question because the inquisitor simply says that there are reasons my way can't be the way. But I will answer part of it. No children would be born with mental and physical defects that cause pain or extremely difficult lives. People who abuse children would be revealed in public before I would assign them to oblivion.
