i saw a jw literature cart, and two dubs standing behind it this weekend.
they set up at a popular well attended event in a small town that brings thousands of people from around the country.
even though i've been out and away from jws for some time, and no longer identify as one of them, and the people i was with had no clue, it was a bit embarrassing to see the cart and cult zombies with it.
I have seen them breaking the cart out of the car or loading it. I have seen them in downtown-type places. They are so far away from the main crowds though. They are "out of the way" of traffic, which is good.
But they don't approach people or hold some flyers to pass out. They are very passive in this work.
All that matters to a JW is "getting their time in." I think Watchtower is fully at the point where literature is a loss for them and they don't care that much is getting out to people.

i have not told them that i don't believe in the borg and i have done my research and concluded it's a bunch of crap.
the main reason i haven't is because it would break my moms heart and probably send her into a deep depression (she suffers from depression).

No. The simpler solution is to lay ground rules for your parents when they look after him. He is your child not theirs, if you say no cult propaganda then no cult propaganda it is...That wouldn't work at all. Even if you clearly stated your position to your parents, they would continue to secretly indoctrinate your son.

ok, i just signed up for hbo now and after binge watching entourage and game of thrones, i clicked on going clear, which is an expose of l. ron hubbard and scientology.
i was mortified at the similarities of that cult and the witnesses.

MTSman, you are correct that it's crazy how "we" sane people can succumb to bat-shit crazy theories and beliefs, leaving the insane people out of the equation right now.
But you and I see pretty clearly how Scientology is bat-shit crazy. Those who have joined over the years did not have the benefits of hindsight and documentaries like GOING CLEAR.
Well, it's the same for Jehovah's Witnesses. People didn't know that what they were joining had bat-shit crazy theories. Recruitment is tougher in the 21st century with everyone googling everything, so we are on the dying edge of that. And being raised in bat-shit crazy stuff, even in the information age, many are re-wired to think that it is normal or that it is strange and different, but the normal stuff is bat-shit crazy.
Now, the insane factor. I am not the sane adult that joined. Things in my life were insane when I joined Jehovah's Witnesses. Same for people who may join Scientology or any dangerous mind-control cult. Cults pry on people going through huge stresses in their lives. Who's to say what's bat-shit crazy to someone whose whole life is bat-shit crazy?

Here's the fake letter from WTS to the congregations that I typed for that thread:
Dear brothers and sisters,
We have searched the entire east coast to find at least a handful of your spiritual brothers and sisters that were adversely affected somehow by Hurricane Irene. Having found them, we would like to address the dozens and maybe hundreds of letters and emails and phone calls that are sure to come any minute now. Yes, Watchtower will be helping them out. It may be that we will send volunteers using their own vehicle and their own gas to patch their roofs, but we will spring for the shingles or maybe we will just give them 40 hours of credit toward their month as pioneers so they can patch their own damned roof. But rest assured, we will help them.
That said, of course we want you to send your donations toward that help. With disasters in the past, we saw how much you all wanted to help with clothing and food and even automobiles. We saw what a goldmine such goodwill on the part of our people could be for us. Therefore, we established the "money-only" donation arrangement and we insisted that you don't earmark your donation specifically for the disaster relief, just in case we have a little left over to use for "other" things. (We made a killing on that Tsunami thing in Asia where virtually no Witnesses were affected.)
So, it's time again to dig deep and send extra money for a specific purpose without insisting that it go for that specific purpose. Please approach the elders if you are cash-strapped so they can explain how you can also donate family heirloom jewelry or refinance your mortgage to help out.
If you were adversely affected by Hurricane Irene, please tell the elders so they can pass it on to us. Maybe we'll get the RBC to find someone to fix your roof if the local brothers donate enough money for us to spring for the shingles. Or, maybe we'll credit you with 40 hours of field service if you have been a longtime faithful suckass pioneer.

Up until about a year ago I was still being used as an attendant. let me tell you something, witnesses are HUGE assholes. We make them out to be way more behaved than the "world". But the reality is at assemblies they are as big if not bigger assholes than anyone else. Also completely untitled, not obedient AT ALL. Some of the biggest do-good righteous people in the org who would condemn you for just about anything, are some of the most selfish arrogant people.

I don't think they will put jw . org on the badge for awhile.
There's still plenty of opportunity to sell other stuff with it on there- ties, jewelry, tote bags, umbrellas.
i think with all this change we see occurring with the watchtower corporation's to deal with things means they are in financial trouble and are seeking to consolidate their real estate holdings for easy sale if needed to stay financially solvent.. they will stop or slowly decrease the door to door work and focus on the material potential of each member young and old for what ever they can get out of them.
this will lead to more leaving under their tyranny.

Watchtower does have a cash flow problem, but they are far from broke.
True, they can't sell buildings at profits forever, but they still have Assembly Halls and Kingdom Halls when they run out of Headquarters and branch buildings. They've taken the money away from congregations and they have cheapened their free offerings to the public and probably reduced the actual amount of printed materials going out.
It'll be a long haul. Eventually, the negative cash flow will catch up.
