Talkin' bout my generation

instead of this latest video by governing body member david splane, attempting to explain the current view of what jesus meant about "this generation" in matthew 24:34, the governing body should, if they were truly wanting to put "truth" first, have simply said "this is one idea we have, but it may be wrong, and in all honesty, we aren't sure what jesus meant here.".

then, they could have gone on to give the different valid options for interpreting this passage.. instead they doubled-down on a confusing doctrine that can't really be supported by scripture.. there was no overlapping generation of 100+ years in the original 1st century fulfillment of jesus' words, so why would there be a 175-year overlapping generation in the antitypical modern fulfillment?.

while we are on the topic, why are they even still saying that matthew 24:34 has a typical and antitypical fulfillment, since they said we shouldn't interpret things now as types and antitypes unless the bible explicitly says so?.

wouldnt he, with all his "god power" n stuff.....be able to snap his "god fingers", and like kill the demon that he created?.

who creates a monster, that they cant control?.

i would have totally invented an "off" switch on all disobedient ones.

I know the standard JW answer has to do with free will. Sure, the demons will eventually be destroyed, but only once it has been proven beyond all doubt that living Jehovah's way is the best way, otherwise men are only serving out of fear of God destroying them.

But that doesn't answer my concern. INNOCENT CHILDREN by the tens of thousands (perhaps more than 100 thousand) torn away from their parents in a tsunami in 2004 and being put through grave suffering and painful deaths in an earthquake in Haiti in 2010. If God is allowing suffering to teach us a lesson, isn't the price too high? Those children don't learn anything about God's love and the parents that lose them are not learning God's love. There is no excuse for not "snapping his fingers" and simply making that tsunami not exist or that earthquake not so severe. We could add the Japanese tsunami and past starvations in Ethiopia and endless events.

There are believers that can come up with answers for my concern and say that God didn't do it, but allowed it to demonstrate mankind's need of God. They say that God brings good things out of tragedy. God allows it so that humans can develop courage, devotion, loyalty, self-sacrifice, kindness, generosity, hope, trust. I don't accept that. The price is too high. If it weren't for children, I could almost let it be. But there you have it.

I need some advice

i dont think ill be able to leave the organization,you see i have no close friends in or outside the jws and my entire family is part of the cult,if i leave my mom and the rest of my family will be heartbroken and i dont want to be the reason they are hurt.

im not particularly close to any of my family members but i still care for them.

i could really use some advice because i have no one else to turn too..

It is difficult, but I bet that deep down, you know you will have to find a way out of the Watchtower. As a teen, you need to take your time and figure this out carefully. But as a teen, you may think that years are an awfully long time.

At some point, you will have to face a loss. Try to make it a loss of JW friends and not JW family. Ditch the fake friends at some point and start developing real friends. Consider your career future to be way more important than your JW or former JW future and make goals.

You will figure it out.

well it seems for many on this board the time came to leave the w.t and cross the bridge in to a real world.

speaking for myself l feel i did not enter the cold and lonely world i was lead to believe i was entering.

rather i have discovered it was no great loss leaving a world that had protected me with false, dreams, fantazy and false promises.. but what have i really achieved by my leaving that i value?.

from your name you now sound well and truly out. Glad you got through " the rough period". Glad we both got out of what I now see as a dictatorship.

I could update my biography, my picture, even change my email associated with this forum. But I cannot change my name if I am to keep my account and all the posts with it. I would love to change my name to "Out" or something similar. OnTheWayOut was chosen when I was attending meetings. Others have chosen a name and then their situation changed.

If people can, they should consider counseling when they get out of the JW's. If they cannot, this forum can help a bit as a group therapy. Books can help also. Just talking to people is extremely helpful.

There are plenty of good things in most experiences of leaving Watchtower behind.

I went through a rough period when I left. I was told by JW's when I was recruited that I had been seeking deeper truths about life, the universe, and everything. And of course, they had all the answers about an issue of universal sovereignty and why bad things happen to people due to Satan and the demons and YADDA YADDA YADDA. But as it turned out, I was asking a simple question, which was "Who am I?" That's what people really want to know.

Once I realized that, I was able to proceed with my recovery from Watchtower quite well and to pursue happiness.

The Greatest Paradox

now that i have been a born again christian for 10 years, i see things that just boggles my mind.

like this: we all spent untold hours in the field service telling people (mostly christians) about the paradise earth.

that was the reason we were at their door.

And making decisions based strictly on feelings is unwise. As humans, limited in perception, we can EXPECT to be deceived, especially in our feelings.

One of the greatest mind-boggling things I see is this: People learn to abandon using just their feelings to start discovering real truths via scientific methods and Perry accuses them of feeling angry with God and following their feelings. Meanwhile, after Perry has gone so far in learning that he wasn't in "the truth," that his feelings allowed him to be deceived, he still embraces Christianity because such beliefs feel right to him. To him, there's still a truth just like the Watchtower promised, but he just has to focus on Jesus instead of Jehovah and ignore science. Jesus feels right to him. It boggles the mind that he hasn't really learned a thing.

Reflecting on my Disfellowshipping

today is the day.. i was baptized as one of jehovah's witnesses on march 25th 1989.disfellowshipped for admitted apostasy today, september 10th 2015.. what an amazing story we all share.

how did we get involved with this group and think this was the best way of life?.

i asked my wife to stay home from the meeting tonight and spend the evening with me.she is.... we celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary this past monday.. i must admit, i never saw any of this coming, but it couldn't have come sooner.i'm free of all the fake friendships.
