Prediction: no more changes for a long while

i’ve noticed a pattern where things don’t go the way i expect them to go and/or whenever i realise there is a trend and, i mentally adjust for the idea that the trend will continue, the trend stops in its tracks.

so on that basis, and given many people, including myself, and active jws, have been asking ‘what changes will the governing body make next?’ perhaps the (disappointing) answer is: ‘nothing much for a while to come’.

maybe they’ve made the changes they want for now, and will wait a while and see how it’s received.

What did you think about the one about the R&F no longer needing to count time or submit a slip? Naturally, this was never a biblical teaching. However, I was judged over this hourly time counting because I worked.. It made me positively ill to see this change and I was so right that I never listened to the religion!

I seem to remember reading that the 1995 Generation change got you to realize you needed a decent job for retirement benefits.

The point is that many thousands of Witnesses everywhere have reached retirement age totally unprepared because they spent time in the ministry.. Even those who didn’t get pioneer hours still wasted time that could have been spent in a decent job that would provide for them.. Instead, they were led to believe Armageddon would have come to ‘save’ them.

Meanwhile, the religion just did away with this teaching with the stroke of a pen!

Yes, the 1995 Generation change got me to realize I needed a decent job for retirement benefits. Many will wake up with every change at Watchtower, but so many waking are older and will remain PIMO because they are older and set in their WT ways or don't want to lose friends and family.

They may be pissed off, but only a handful will leave over such things as doing away with counting time. So many left in the past because of the need to count time. Changes always cause some problems.

The lawyers and accountants are telling the Govering Body members to lighten up on rules that cause people to leave, or else the lawyers and accountants will declare the GB to be the evil slave.

I am sure they didn't think it through, but they are saying they were led astray when Ray Franz happened. But it will all be declared as necessary to remove the weeds until the harvest time is so close that we now need to be kinder and show mercy, letting Jehovah decide which are now weeds.

I have only read the opening post, not the comments. So maybe y'all got it covered.

I have been away from doctrine and changes of any kind, lost interest- a cult is a cult regardless of whether the anointed will die before Armageddon or not or if members can grow a beard. But changes drew me back concerning all the kinder, gentler rules.

What I read and see from YouTube whistle blowers is to keep expecting big changes. Stat tuned for blood doctrine drop, birthday drop. Maybe many others to retain people, combat the Norway problem.

"Everyone Wants To Leave"

a thread about steve hassan re-emerged and got me looking him up.

his wikipedia entry had a point under "criticism" that there is an underlying assumption in his approach that all members of high control groups ultimately want to leave*.. while it is generally believed that there are a lot of pimos still attending, doing field service and giving lip service to the wt, i doubt that everyone within the congregations want to get out.

it's not always internally and logically consistent, but it's been around long enough for enough workarounds to make it tolerable to emerge.. what do you think?

I am the exception to many rules, and I suspect so many of you are also.

There are some ready to leave if it were not for a family member or several of them. There are PIMO members waiting for "something." There are young ones ready to get away at adulthood.

But so many love the easing of rules because they had no intention of leaving. They are trapped in a mindset. My mother wants to see her children who passed away and will probably never give leaving a thought. My wife just "knows" it's the truth and rejects any efforts I used to make (still occasionally make) to look at what's wrong in Watchtower.

Stress of Going to a Summer Convention

however,we thought the magazine on stress was deliberately placed in the summer months because for any jw going to a convention, paying high season hotel rates for themselves or their whole family to stay near the convention centre, fighting coworkers and managers to get the time off work, travelling expenses, buying their own meals for the family, buying new shiny suits and dresses to impress (particularly if you have teenage girls who are looking for their prince), and more.... by the time they come home again and straight away back to work, their nerves will be so frazzled that their stress levels will have sky rocketed!.

I could be wrong, but I think the only deal the Borg has with Hotels is a free room for every so many bookings they get from people asking for the Watchtower rate. And the rate is rarely the best one offered by the hotel, but the sheeple are supposed to ask for the Watchtower rate to help out Watchtower. I went outta town on a vacation for one convention and booked the hotel across the street. They were out of the Watchtower rate rooms, so I booked a room with some other discount that was better than the Watchtower rate at the same hotel. I just was smart enough not to mention that to anyone.

But otherwise, yes- Conventions are a cash cow. They gotta have them. COVID really put a hurting on them filling their coffers. Don't forget to donate (a set amount by Watchtower) for a parking pass unless you are at an assembly hall parking lot where even JW's could figure out that you are fleecing the flock to charge extra for parking.

now here is my drive-home thinking.. back in the 80's when i attended i was newly married, and had a young child.

I have heard the excuse that the JW's cannot discriminate when selling a building.

But if they say to get rid of your demon stuff when you become a JW and not to go into churches, then they could say they don't want Satan's organization to have that wonderful building built by Jehovah's people, so they will tear it down and sell the land.

But that would cost them money.

People who hear too much "Jesus" may tune out, so the lessons could be for those that believe in "something" but are tired of or not ready for evangelical preaching.

Watchtower really wants to stand out from Christendom. In the past, doing away with birthdays and Christmas and other holidays, no military service, NOW VERY LITTLE JESUS.

I think the name "JEHOVAH's Witnesses" says it all. It's all about JEHOVAH.

I gave my all for many years, but not nearly as many as you, and I started to question many things. The generation teaching, amongst many others. If I had not faded and left around 2007,I would have stormed out of the Hall when they introduced "overlapping generations." You are only "basically a non-entity" in the Kingdom Hall. To them, you are only as valuable as compared to how much you did for them this month, this midweek meeting, today. But you are valuable outside of that place to some people, at the very least to yourself.-

If I were to go back to the beginning of my postings on this forum, I can see that I was a bit disturbed that they weren't putting much effort into bringing me back to the fold. But I eventually realized I should be glad for that. It's a cult. Once they have no control over you, you are useless to them. But I managed to turn it around- They only have the control over you that you give them, so give them none.

Whatever your reason for being a JW, don't beat yourself up for "wasting" some of your life. You didn't know. And some other circumstances can just as easily rob any of us of our younger years- health, debt, addiction, family woes, being stranded on an island with Gilligan and a professor who couldn't patch a boat (or your life's equivalent to that).

His 2 sons are being investigated by the branch for covering up daddy's addiction.
There's a probability that his oldest son might also be removed from the branch committee."

I imagine it's gotta be more than getting drunk. They would generally cover up such a minor thing for anyone Elder and Up. But who knows? There may be a need for changes, and Tony went off-script all the time with his "tight pants" talks and other stuff about killing apostates. Just because Jehovah is spirit-guiding you, it doesn't mean you can go beyond what is written in Watchtower.

If it's just health reasons or something similar, Watchtower might want to see who speculates and who leaks any truths before they are announced.

Yes, they did not fare better than so many other religions. Jw's died from COVID. It was the perfect opportunity for Jehovah to show up "Baal" and keep all the flock safe from COVID.
