Today I got a review that left me scratching my head - what do you make of it?
by Brock Talon inas a published author on amazon, i'm used to getting negative reviews from time to time.
it goes with the territory and i'm ok with it.
writing is an art form, so no art is liked by everyone.

I thought it was sincere also. I would respond to the review and say that I hope you continue to feel free to examine other views for yourself, outside of Watchtower. And I would stress that, yes there are bad people everywhere but ......I would go on to say why the situation is made worse within the JW's. -

The best surgery for men, Hernia surgery.
by James Mixon ini had one two weeks ago, i'm fine.
but how nice it was not to lift anything over.
10 pounds.
-
OnTheWayOut
Yeah, if only......
I had a bit more serious hernia surgery then. I couldn't lift 10 pounds for 4 weeks and it was very very difficult to even get out of bed for the first 3 weeks, then it still hurt until the 4th week. Any being spoiled was because I really couldn't do things for myself.
But it was definitely a good thing to have done. Some of my coworkers could see a small lump on the right of my abdomen and they called it my "alien." So it's gone for years now.

Lurker trying to gain clarity
by questioningmyfaith inhello all, i would like to first say that i am basically questioning my faith in god.
i am not negative towards the wt at all.
so honestly i am to concerned with more ad hominem attacks towards the wt because i still love the organization and the people in it.

I am basically questioning my faith in god.
That's a great place to start. Congratulations.
"If there is no god, is there hope for mankind"
Yes. Humans have multiplied and covered the planet with their kind. They have generally increased their lifespan and will continue to do so. Speaking in terms of evolution, that's success- increasing your numbers and your longevity. All the individual problems that could shorten lifespans eventually- man will probably work them out one day.
But if you want to compare the hope of working it out one day to the hope that religion promises- some kind of never-ending life, well there really is not anything in reality to compare. But hoping in Santa Claus, no matter how wonderful the hope, just is not reality.
I am not negative towards the WT at all. ,,,,,,,,,,I still love the organization and the people in it. But that is because I truly believe that in general witnesses are good people that are trying their best to do good.
Watch your back then. Good people are being misused to enrich the dangerous mind-control cult. Think how much more good 7 or 8 million people could do if they were working toward some real goal in the sense of charity instead of doing what WTS tells them to do. They are, for the most part, good people. I have nothing against individual members except for one or two a-holes.
So this is my question that I wonder how other people got over certain indoctrinations of JW's.
Some are kicked out, some awaken while in. But the biggest difference is that we looked for evidence and found it, and most who stay J.W. absolutely refuse to look.

Need advice: Intimacy with my wife almost non existint because she considers me an apostate
by goingthruthemotions injust on of the perks of being an apostate who is married to a branwashed, blinded jw woman.
you know, we have been married for ~27 years....most of which we had nothing to do with the piece of shite cult.
up till the begining of 2014 was when i woke up.

what's the use of being married if this is lacking?
If that's your question, do you really need advice? I hate to go down the road of suggesting cheating or divorce, so I will just say that you seem to know what you need.
I am not quite in your situation, but I have a JW wife who misses me being a JW with her. We have occasions where something is wrong, but it really isn't like your situation. All I can say is that if you don't want to cheat or divorce, you need to change things at home. Marriage counseling is probably out. My JW wife would not go. But it really is the answer for whatever her problem is. After she won't go, a heart-to-heart conversation about cheating or divorcing because you know you won't stay in this situation indefinitely is about the only option left.

The only way to know God exists!
by iconoclastic indo everything as god would do if he were present here.
this will attract his attention, and you will experience his invisible hands blessing everything you do, giving you results more than what you sowed.. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------.
hence put to the test the above, and then you can make really authentic comments!.

Do everything as God would do if He were present here.
If I were to murder entire large groups of people, I think it would be difficult and I would be put to death. I would rather do everything better than the God that most people are seeking would do.

How does God view atheist and devotees?
by iconoclastic in1) he views devotees with disgust; because they use god as a means to fulfillment of their materialistic ends, and they constantly pester him with request to violate his own laws (principle of action and consequence).
hence devotees are materialistic in its true sense.
they even interpolate things into scriptures to suit their convenienceas confirmed by prophet jeremiah himself (jeremiah 7:22; 8:8).

As long as God is doing absolutely nothing about birth defects and natural disasters, and is too busy helping the faithful find their keys or get great parking spaces and obtain better careers while enhancing the abilities of athletes and artists, while children in Africa starve- as long as it is like that- who cares how God views us? -

Talkin' bout my generation
by FusionTheism ininstead of this latest video by governing body member david splane, attempting to explain the current view of what jesus meant about "this generation" in matthew 24:34, the governing body should, if they were truly wanting to put "truth" first, have simply said "this is one idea we have, but it may be wrong, and in all honesty, we aren't sure what jesus meant here.".
then, they could have gone on to give the different valid options for interpreting this passage.. instead they doubled-down on a confusing doctrine that can't really be supported by scripture.. there was no overlapping generation of 100+ years in the original 1st century fulfillment of jesus' words, so why would there be a 175-year overlapping generation in the antitypical modern fulfillment?.
while we are on the topic, why are they even still saying that matthew 24:34 has a typical and antitypical fulfillment, since they said we shouldn't interpret things now as types and antitypes unless the bible explicitly says so?.

IF JEHOVAH WAS SO ALMIGHTY........
by brandnew inwouldnt he, with all his "god power" n stuff.....be able to snap his "god fingers", and like kill the demon that he created?.
who creates a monster, that they cant control?.
i would have totally invented an "off" switch on all disobedient ones.
-
OnTheWayOut
I know the standard JW answer has to do with free will. Sure, the demons will eventually be destroyed, but only once it has been proven beyond all doubt that living Jehovah's way is the best way, otherwise men are only serving out of fear of God destroying them.
But that doesn't answer my concern. INNOCENT CHILDREN by the tens of thousands (perhaps more than 100 thousand) torn away from their parents in a tsunami in 2004 and being put through grave suffering and painful deaths in an earthquake in Haiti in 2010. If God is allowing suffering to teach us a lesson, isn't the price too high? Those children don't learn anything about God's love and the parents that lose them are not learning God's love. There is no excuse for not "snapping his fingers" and simply making that tsunami not exist or that earthquake not so severe. We could add the Japanese tsunami and past starvations in Ethiopia and endless events.
There are believers that can come up with answers for my concern and say that God didn't do it, but allowed it to demonstrate mankind's need of God. They say that God brings good things out of tragedy. God allows it so that humans can develop courage, devotion, loyalty, self-sacrifice, kindness, generosity, hope, trust. I don't accept that. The price is too high. If it weren't for children, I could almost let it be. But there you have it.
