What is life?

when i was a jobo, i used to thing of 'life without end at laaaasssssst'.. having been on my journey out of the wbt$ slaveholdery, i have found that something that makes sense is that life doesn't owe us a meaning.

psalms 146:4 was actually bangeth on the money-eth 'his breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.'.

although i am now very atheist, and really do not even think there is the remotest possibility of a god, that bible passage is correct.

i found this amusing and ironic, but in a nutshell.

stay on the yellow brick road, do as we say and want, and we promise you courage, a heart, a brain and a ticket back home (spirtual paradise now/ physical paradise soon/ resurrection guaranteed )... .

don't ask too many questions or look behind the big curtain, just believe us or you'll fall apart and die... (research or study on your own/internet/ researching the governing body leads to weakness and disfellowshipping).

And just as in that story, the characters received nothing from "The Great Oz" that they didn't provide to themselves.

To nail the comparison, it is very important to have a "Toto" if you find yourself in the the Land of Watchtower.
Toto may have gotten Dorothy into trouble, but Toto also revealed the truth of the Great Oz, pulling the curtain back. Your "Toto" can be personal research or a loving family member or perhaps getting disfellowshipped or seeing the horrible treatment that Watchtower dishes out to another person.

It's too bad that so many ~~munchkins~~ Jehovah's Witnesses would scold Toto for pulling the curtain back, perhaps even deciding to shun him from that point on for what he did.

my wife and i went to see it today at the encouragement of some of our new friends.

we laughed until we cried, and it was so cathartic to sit in a room full of hundreds of people laughing at the ridiculousness of religion.

sure, the subject is mormonism, but it was very poignant and applicable to all religion.

their fundamental beliefs are much like jehovah's witnesses sans the paranoia, authoritarianism, stifling rules, and end-times enthusiasm.

you don't even have to become a bible student to be saved, you could be an idol worshipping heathen and still get resurrected in the milenium.

if i still believed in the divine inspiration of the scriptures, i would be a bible student.

Lucky for me, along with research to reveal that JW's were a cult, I also researched the roots of JW's which would include the crap that Russell developed from his Millerite beginnings and would include the Bible itself.

So I won't be led astray by any religious crap anymore.

I bought group tickets about 2 years ago and went with 14 other ex-JW's.

As long as you can laugh at "religion" it's funny. To our group, it was hilarious.

To me, saying "and get a straight answer" puts your question in the realm of that riddle where you have to choose the safe door from 2 doors where one is guarded by a liar and one is guarded by a truthful guard.
There is an answer for that riddle, but it's not realistic. Where and when would that actually really happen? Same question with getting a straight answer from a GB member. Where and when would that actually really happen?

So in the realm of philosophical riddles, my question would be, "Do you really believe God works through you and the 2/3rds vote and actually accepts the doctrines of you men like the overlap generation to be representative of what HE meant?"

Every last big event, trend, news event- all of it are signs.

Wars, famine, all that bad stuff are signs that we are close to the end.

Good economies, advances in science or education or medicine- signs that Satan is drawing people away from God therefore the end is near.

Somehow, efforts and results toward "peace" are part of the cry of "peace and security" so not only wars, but peace is a sign that the end is near.

Just as Barack Obama being elected American president had to be a sign of people "putting their trust in men" instead of God, therefore the end is near, somehow Donald Trump will also be a sign of "the love of the greater number cooling off" and therefore the end is near.

Good economies are signs of the love of money, therefore the end is near. Bad economies are signs that people are ready to throw their money into the streets as Revelation mentions somewhere, therefore the end is near.

The Australian Royal Commission and lawsuits against Watchtower because of pedophiles are signs that the governments of Satan's world are ready to attack true religion, therefore the end is near.

Somehow, JW's now manage to lump any natural disasters in with their thought that earthquakes are a sign that the end is near. So forest fires, hurricanes, tsunamis etc. are all part of that.
