In case this hasn't already been suggested: Read In Search of Christian Freedom by Raymond Franz. This book helped me to not feel guilty about leaving "the truth"; he really puts it in the right perspective.

OnTheWayOut - "Irregular Publishers" does sound like they are constipated or something!! How about "In the field" Or "Jehovah's loving discipline".

"NEED GREATERS" Ugh!! I hate that phrase and I always have. We knew a JW couple who applied every year to Bethel and Giliad until the age cut-off (age 35 or 40?). Well, they never got selected, so they decided to make themselves missionaries and labeled themselves "Need Greaters" and went to the Dominican. Need Greaters - I'm sorry, but I think that is the most retarted phrase!

Well, its been almost a month since Little Drummer Boy and I mailed our DA letter. I know they got it because all of the pesky phone calls and surprise visits came to a screeching halt immediately. Its been so nice not to have to worry about who might call or come out, and have to make excuses and pretend to appreciate their "concern". I'm not sure if they will eventually try to call us, or whether they've announced our DA yet. We've been enjoying our newfound freedom to stop and look at halloween decorations and candy, or to brows the "forbidden" section in the bookstore containing "apostate" literature, or to say "good luck" or "happy birthday", without looking over our shoulders wondering if any JWs are around.
I'm sorry to hear you've been having a rough time lately. I hope things are on the upswing for you now. Keep in touch! -

My husband was running mics during the WT study once when it was probably 95 degrees outside and felt like 150 degrees in the hall. So, he took off his suit jacket so he wouldn't drown in his own sweat. He still had a dress shirt and tie on, but the PO went and asked someone else to take over for my husband because he wasn't wearing his jacket! He didn't even start by asking him if he had a jacket and if he could put it on. The other brother just came up and took over. I always thought the strict dress code was rediculous. When its 95 degrees and humid, who in their right minds would really want to dress in a suit to go door to door? As for me, some of my most vivid memories of field service are of me wondering if I'll ever get the feeling back in my legs and feet after being in service in 0 degree weather for 2 1/2 hours, because HEAVEN FORBID a sister would wear warm slacks in service when its absolutely freezing outside! Surely the householders (who don't want to stand there in the doorway letting out their nice inside warmth anyway) would be totally turned off to "the truth" if they saw women wearing slacks!!!

MOve on!???
by Core88 inok so i am a ex-witness,(disfellowshiped) i have posted here before...but i must say why have'nt we moved on?
come on i mean if we all really thought that the jw sect was just that then why are we not trying to forget it and let life go on as it has; and try to be true to ourselves and our neighbor and read jesus words as recorded in the bible?
i have been reading my bible on lunch breaks at my work, as well as reading in the dhammapada.

Core88-This topic has already been thoroughly discussed as recently as 4 days ago. Look up the topic under "Friends" called "When will exJWs/apostates get on with their lives?". You might try reading a little of the recent topics before you post an identical new one.

Amish forgivness
by megsmomma ini saw a part on the today show where matt was asking if it was possible an emotional disconnect to be able to forgive immidietly after such a terrible tragedy.
i personally feel it is not natural to be able to forgive something so big so quickly and it makes me think they all put on a front because they are a cult-like group too.
if they said "one family is forgiving, and another family is mad as h*ll about the whole thing,"it would be much more believable to me.

My dad was raised amish (he left at age 18). His parents were amish until they died. I have an aunt and uncle and MANY cousins who are amish. I visit them about once a year. They are extremely hard-working, friendly, and hospitable people (much more so than JWs). There are lots of different sects of the amish. The Pennsylvania amish are generally considered more strict than other sects in Indiana and Ohio. As with ANY religion, there are those who do get into trouble, like getting pregnant before marriage, drinking, etc. But in this regard they are no worse than any other religion. It just seems more odd to hear of this happening because many people picture the amish as incapable of even having the ability to commit "sin". Yes, they are humans, just like the rest of us. But they are very humble and do not like undue attention drawn to them, especially in a tragic case like this one.

I can understand the viewpoints from both directions, and I agree with most of what's been said about everyone needing to deal with his/her loss in his/her own way. I find it an interesting phenomenon that the WTS continues to have this much power over some former JWs. It shows me how horribly the WTS entangles itself in each person's mind and thought processes, so that when we try to tear the WTS away, a little part of us goes with it. I don't know of any other world-wide religions that have created such a negative impact on its former members as the WTS has. (Just FYI, I DA'd myself 3 weeks ago)
