Little Drummer Boy and I were married in the KH about 5 months before we were baptized. We were "in good standing" because we attended all the meetings, had our bible study every week, and went out in service. The elders made an exception for us because we were "doing so well". That was in 1993.

Went outside to enjoy the beautiful evening we had tonight before it gets cold again. Helped my son learn to ride his bike without training wheels-doing much better but not quite independent yet.
Much more fun than going to a stuffy meeting with a bunch of people with fake smiles saying "Good to see you!!!" when they don't give a crap whether they saw you or not; listening to the same boring talk and reading the same boring scriptures and passing around wine which you pray you don't spill on yourself or your neighbor; trying to leave right after all the while wading through dozens of people standing there talking and are oblivious to the fact they are blocking your only exit from the hall (or maybe it's purposeful); driving home with your eyes burning from exhaustion from the busy day and having no time for dinner and having subjected yourself to the mind-numbing ritual of the memorial. Makes me tired just thinking about it!

Chrissee - pay no attention to the MAD man. He has his OWN motives for what he posts here. Do not feel like you're being a coward or chicken or anything else negative by "hiding" from the JWs. My husband and I had to do that in the months before we DA'd because it was every weekend and sometimes during the week that certain elders and their wives would knock on the door. We had nothing to say to them, and we certainly did not want to "study" with them as they kept asking us to do.
During our times of hiding, I felt a little guilty at first. Then I came to the conclusion in my mind that I am under absolutely NO obligation to answer the phone or the door just because someone decided to call or knock. It's my home, and my phone, and I can choose to answer or not. It certainly helps ease the pressure and guilt if you approach things this way. It's a little annoying, knowing they're out there waiting forever for you to come to the door, but don't let them make you feel bad for not answering. By the way, the day we sent our DA letter, all of the annoying calls and visits came to a screeching halt. Haven't heard a word from them since September; I'm loving the peace and quiet.

My first missed Memorial, too. Never missed one from the time we were first assimilated over 14 years ago. In fact, the very last time we set foot in the KH was at last year's memorial. We had at that point already decided to DA, but we were going thru the motions so we didn't raise too much suspicion from the elders. When we came out of the KH, I had a major case of the "heebedie geebedies"-you know, where you get creeped out by something and your body shakes involuntarily for a second.
I am delighted to NOT have to run home after work, choke down some excuse for dinner (like a bologna sandwich), put on pantyhose and a dress, drive back to the KH, and pretend to be so happy to be there and talk to everyone else who's pretending to be so happy to be there.
I'd drink to that, but my wine glass is empty right now.
I vote for vodka, cranberry juice, and a splash of orange juice poured over crushed ice. Yum yum!

Hey there! Yes, I am among the living once more. I'm doing better since I've been on my antibiotic for several days. I did actually call in sick to work one day last week! That's pretty bad for me, because that's only the 2nd time I've ever called in sick in my 7 years of working there (and the first time was 5 years ago after my son, 4 years old at the time, had major surgery and needed his mom home.) It takes a lot to get me down. But I really haven't felt well for the past month for various reasons, and this was like the 'straw that broke the camel's back'.
Thanks for your well-wishing. I really appreciate that.
As for vodka, I think the Skyy vodka is fine, but I still really like Absolut. Don't know why; I'm just partial to it.

Flat panel computer monitors. It's unreal how much desk space they save! Can't imagine having one of those clunky boxy ones now that we have the flat panel.

Whats the strangest thing you've seen someone get in trouble for?
by LaniB ini remember one windy summer day, after a meeting on sunday morning, i walked out of the hall behind a sister who was part of the church congregation with her two teenage children.
her husband did not attend.
the wind caught her dress unexpectedly and blew it up a'la marilyn monroe and revealed that she was wearing (shock, horror) french knickers...... there were a few murmers behind me which i at the time put down to things like "oh poor girl, so embarrassing".
