  How The Organization Hooks You With "Privileges"

  right from the beginning, you are bombarded with others telling you what a "privilege" it is to "be used" in the organization.

  especially if you're a male, it is easy to get hooked by the elder's lines.....for example, a male is given the "privilege" of "handling the microphones" if they put in enough time in the ministry and they aren't setting a bad example.

  if you're "faithful in what is least", greater privileges await you.

  That reminds me of the love-bombing comments LDB and I got when we were first studying. Actually, I'd have to say we were love-nuclear bombed, for all the syrupy sweet things said to us.

  "It's so encouraging to see you progress and attend all the meetings!"

  "That was a great job reading that scripture. I'm so pleased to hear you comment at the meetings."

  "Jehovah must be pleased by your efforts."

  OK, I just threw up a little inside of my mouth.

  Baby Shower

  so, this week i was invited to a baby shower being held for my very oldest friend - she and i were toddlers in the same cong, went to the same school, did talks together and aux.

  pioneered together... after i left school and subsequently the borg, her and i kind of lost touch (although i did go to her wedding (at age 18???

  ) ) and we have chatted on and off over the years, and seen each other once or twice since then (she came to see my kids when they were born).

  This brings up a huge pet peeve of mine. I hate being invited to baby showers for people I barely know, haven't seen in years, or who couldn't give a rat's a$$ if I fell off the face of the earth. To them, I'm a convenient person gift-buyer to invite. The more people gifts, the better. A couple of years ago, I kept getting invited to wedding showers and baby showers of LDB's nephew's wives/fiances whom I had never even met and wouldn't know them if they walked into the room and fell on top of me! Ugh! I refuse to go to showers for anyone I don't know very well (or at all).

  Princess, I'm not saying this is the case with you. But don't feel obligated to go (i.e. 'present a gift') if you don't really want to be there.

  By the way, it warms my heart to know that 277 people were "concerned" enough to at least look to see if I really was 'going back...'.

  But only a few TRUE friends cared enough to post .

  Just kidding. I'm in a goofy mood. I think I need a drink.

  LDB just went nighty nighty (he's a little groggy from his visit with Mr. Seagram's VO) and I had to study spelling words with our 9 year old. So now that they're tucked in, I guess I better sign off too. Thanks for the laughs tonight.
