C.O. is in town, the harassment begins...
by PeachRose ini haven't been to meetings in a long time (trying to fade).
ever so often i do run into a witness or 2 who are friendly, but reserved (after all i am considered in active).
anyway, my hubby & i are currently working on a letter to send to the society that will more then likely get us df'd or disassociated (same thing i guess).

MC-what you said is so very true! It's so funny how the elders won't DARE allow you to tape a "meeting in the back room" or sheparding call, but will require all this proof if a JW is filing for divorce (and wants a scriptual divorce) because her spouse cheated on her. It's pathetic and sad!
What you said about the JW's being uneducated is right on the nail. They are trained to think in a "one track mind" and not go to college to learn new ideas that might influence their JW judgement and make them question things. When I think back to how ignorant I was - thinking all my science teachers in school didn't know what they were talking about because the Creation book painted a different picture. I want to laugh at my own ignorance! How very sorry I am for even thinking that scholars, professors, and people with Masters degrees were wrong and I was right! ~shaking my head~
Ehhh...you live and learn right?

Hi guys-you're the best! It's Friday and so far so good - though my family has told me that they have received phone calls from the elder's wanting to visit them (along with the C.O.). My family still believes and are welcoming the visits. I think tomorrow and Sunday will be the big tests for me - I just know they are gonna come knocking on my door. I will keep you guys posted and let you know what happens on Monday! Thanks again!

Now that I am free (or almost free) I am doing things that I never have been able to do such as: Working out at the gym (I was always too tired to work out on the non-meeting days, now I can work out 5 days a week and get in shape), spending time with my TRUE friends (people I've know since freshman year of HS and have never cared whether I was a JW or not, just loved me for who I am inside), and finally fulfilling my dream-going to college (growing up in the "truth" I was told not to go to a "real" college because the new system was coming soon blah....blah...blah) so I ended up going to a 2 year business school, although I am happy with my job it was always my dream to get my Masters Degree, now I'm finally doing it! Life is beautiful! Oh and by the way - I'm also planning a trip to Vegas! Look out slot machines here I come!!! hehehehe

Do you speak to currant members of the JW's
by silversurfer1 inmany on this site have describe their exiting this group as "fading".
which i believe allows one to maintain some civil contact and or association with friends and family.
it probably helps when running into jw's in ones normal routine of life.

Hi SilverSufer. Although I am not yet DA'd or DF'd (but will be soon) I can completely understand how you feel. Back in the day when I was a believer I would sometimes run into DF'd people in the street or on the bus, I have to say I always "broke the rules" and said hello. I just couldn't walk by someone I knew without saying hello to him/her. A long time ago a brother in my hall was publically approved (came very close to being DF'd) but since he was humble and repented he got off - still he was considered "marked". After they made the announcement, I saw him in the back of the KH at the end of the meeting looking worn, sad, and afraid. I just went up to him and gave him a big hug in front of everybody (I was 15 at the time). I didn't care what the elders or anyone said! I told him he was really brave and to hang in there. Although he is long since reinstated he told me that down to this very day he feels like an outsider. Now he no longer attends meetings though he still believes.
Running into witnesses from time to time is going to be very ackward for you (as you know). The good JW's will smile and say a quick hello, the "self-righteous phonys" will ignore you or stare at you like you have the plague and then run and tell their JW friends "Guess who I saw at the mall today". There is nothing you can really do except be the better person and just smile and give them a brief nod. Show them that you are not the phony & if they choose to walk by you let them go. In the end you will come out on top and they won't! Be strong Silver & be the better person. I always say "kill them with kindness". Hope this helps.

Changes at NY Bethel
by architect inlast dec 2005, the ny bethel gave talks indicating that they had to downsize (word is mine) due to "improved technology" and that as a result of this simplification some bethel family members would be invited to serve in the united states field in various assignments at various congregations where the excellent training they have recieved at bethel could be put to use and contribute much to the preaching and disciple making work.. what do you make of this?.
i wonder how they would determine who stays or goes?.
are there any former bethel members out there who can comment on rather this would be an easy transistion for those who have to leave?.

To help them get on their feet, they probably gave them one free pair of walking shoes.
LOL They can always get the free pair of shoes at the "bethal mall" (forgot the name of it) it's that store the bethelites donate their old clothes to so other bethelites can help themselves to free clothes. If I were them I would ransack the store before leaving bethel, take all the clothes and sell them on ebay. It might help get them off to a great start. lol Okay, enough silly jokes for today.

Overheard at the Service Meeting
by under_believer inthis week's service meeting had a part about how wonderful and awesome the theocratic ministry school is.
one guy said "this is a school that has been going on since jesus walked the earth.
" .

This is a school that has been going on since Jesus walked the Earth. I did a double-take on that one.
I would have done more then a double-take - I probably have been pulled in the "back room" by the elders for laughing so hard at that stupidity! lol

Although I am not a bethelite, 2 brothers in my hall (on of them an elder for over 10 years) were given the boot. Obviously both of these brothers had no skills (or skills considered relevant enough for Bethal to keep them). I'm sure it has to be tough for them to go home and start fresh with no savings in the bank & no college degrees. I would think it's hard for a 40 yr. old plus person to get a job with dignity having no skills or resume. Although I am sure the "friends" in their congregations back home helped them out a bit. Regardless, it was a rotten thing for the WTS to do, but what can you expect from the borg?
Stupid question - do you think the Society gave them a little something extra as a "departing" gift? You know - to help them get on their feet again? Just wondering......

Hi Paula. I'm so very sorry for what happened to you. It truly is every woman's worse nightmare. I am glad you told the JW's to go away - to go through that tragedy and then get mixed up in the "cult" like most of us here did is double trouble.
Glad you have you on the board and I look forward to reading your comments. All the best for true happiness and peace.

Unreal! They really have some nerve telling people who they can associate with and who they can't - especially family members! When are people going to realize that there is something seriously wrong when you're told you cannot associate with a friend/family member because they no longer share the same beliefs as you do? Crazy! Best of luck with your "campaign" (no pun intented) - be sure to post the article your friend publishes in the local newspaper. Good luck you dangerous apostate you!
