I shall refrain from bombing or doing any unmentionable things in the pool. I will also make no heavy posting. Normal straightforward boring posting...... umm don't think so....

What's the deal here?
by Jerohobobonadad inhello all, i hope this post finds you well.. i was wondering - the same hardcore dozen or so posters seem to be the only ones who reply to and start topics.
looking at the member directory, there are loads of members, but most do a handful of posts then disappear.
is there just a crew of regulars here?

I was raised as a JW. Son of an elder, and a was a publisher from about 8 years of age. I followed the rules. Got married to a pioneer, and slowly we started to notice things that bothered us. Ignored the tell tale signs untill we had to acknowledge that something was amiss. Take the time to find out for yourself.
We have just received our copy of C of C yesterday. I have only read about 20 pages. Mrs Smith has the first go at reading it, I will have to wait. But what I noted is that he is not bitter, just relaying the facts as it happened. He was the best example of what a JW should be. At that level of the borg you don't just turn 180 degrees and leave everything you knew for 60years behind! That is a serious move.
I think I am gonna like that book!

elders and alcohol
by chuckyy inwhen i was an elder most of the rest of the body drank like fish, some would regularly get drunk and it was always ignored.
then these very same elders would reprove a young lad for excessive drinking!
was there similar hypocrisy in your cong????.

There was one elder that hit the sauce hard and often. We went away for a weekend together and notice how 12 beers and a bottle of red wine gets absorbed by him in one sitting. And he seemed coherent after all that. Nothing was ever said to him as far as I know.

On Pretending to Be a JW to Sell a Car (posted on Sept 19). . .
by Pioneer Spit...oh, i mean Spirit ini just read the many responses and i apologize that this was offensive to some, and likely not the right place for it.
however, the truth is, i am still a jw--i am an inactive, secretly hateful, bitter jw and i will soon da.
did i make known that i was a jw in order to secure trust with a client?

I am involved in another but unrelated forum. There I am considered a heavy poster. People sometimes learn by just reading and following the posts. Some feel that there is little to contribute, which is a shame. I have seen posts with just a smiley on, and that is cool.
I have given up trying to read all the threads. The important ones I go into with some determination and I am learning a LOT! Yes, I have been inside for so long, it's like seeing the sky for the first time. The sun is too bright, and it is going to take time to get used to all this new freedom. And un-learn the guilt laced cr@p that has been jammed into my skull.
Thus, I may be here for some time.
ps. And NEO is ok. We are having drinks and a braai ( Bar-b-que) this weekend.

If a Witness speaks about your exit to you, does this happen to you too?
by free2beme ini have been out of the religion a long time and do not make public the fact that i was one, to the general people in my life.
mainly as, it is not something i feel is necessary to understand me and i also do not like the odd conversations that seem to come from it.
the other day, a person from work, whom i did not know was a witness.

I once met a df person in the bank. This was while I was still in the borg. I felt I needed to encourage her somehow to 'come back'. At the time she was most relucttant to speak to me. In fact she also said 'you are not supposed to speak to me'. I felt a bit at a loss. I really did like her, and she was dating fellow firefighter, (married him later on). So maybe, just maybe this dub wants to help.
However, I will probably react the same. Get lost my brother! Find out for yourself!

whats the deal with long hair
by aoxo into add to the previous thread regaurding beards i have a similar issue with long hair.
i wanted so long to grow it out but of course couldn't.
there is, however a scripture that baffled me, 1co 11:14 "does not nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him; but if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her?

I cannot wear long hair. I would be in the average-white-guy hair area. Too short and it goes bezerk, too long and I resemble a Page-Boy with curls!
At one stage my skin was very sensitive and I could not shave regularly. The elder's cornered me on this and I explained the situation. 'It won't be for ever' I said. Still trying to play by the rules, I was. It was being treated, but as some of you guys will know, If you attempt shaving while your skin is like this, you will bleed for hours. Look like a twit with bits of tissue paper decorating your face. By then the problem has got worse, making the next shave torture. AND NO AFTER SHAVE! A Coyote had nothing on my howls in pain.
This one elder goes off and buys me medicated shaving cream, unidentifiable stuff. Tells me he wants me to see a clean shaven face next time. So, what could a rational, logical lad do under these circumstances. Stopped going to the meetings for a few weeks while the real medication does it's job.
They think they are so kind and loving. However, in reality they are blinded by the rules that they feel they need to enforce!
who said....'Just try and walk a mile in the other man's shoes' or something like that?

why has love of neighbour grown cold?many people feel miserable with no solution.
in israel, jews and arabs live together, but often hate one another.

...not all is as it seems. No? We are here to support each other after experiencing and 'witnessing' some rather questionable things. Of course these posts will not have many positive comments. However, you have the freedom to say, think do anything you like here, within reason. That is why I am here, watching and learning.

A funny thing happened yesterday
by Satans little helper ini called my sister yesterday - she d/a'd herself a couple of years ago but is still in the uk and lives close to my father; he's a self important elder type who is as insufferable as they generally are.
anyway, the conversation got to talking about family as you do and she mentioned bumping into my father recently, saying that he was sorry that we were having a tough time in oz and ha had sarcastically said that if he had our contact details then he would have sent a card when mrs slh was in hospital.
now i found this somewhat ironic because the reason that he didn't have our contact details was because he chose to not come to our wedding 3 years ago, and after that i do not want to have anything to do with him.

When my cousins etc got married, we did not go to the weddings. But would go to the reception! Logic was, we are not going into the church, so it was ok. But they came to my wedding. Sat in the front row of the KH. I even saw my uncle (Catholic) trying to sing along. How I apreciated that! Just one more thing that boggles the mind....
It must really hurt when your own parents care more of what others (JW) will think, if they knew they were at their child's wedding. Sucks, big time!
