For those that were raised in the Truth, why did YOUR PARENTS become JW's?
by BonaFide init's weird putting two and two together after 40 years of have the two things separate.. my uncle was killed in a car accident in august of 1969. i was a child, but i remember my mother being very sad and crying and staying in her room.. it was in october of 1969 that the witnesses first visited my mom.
my mom was in the front yard watching us kids when jw's came door-to-door.
that sister and my mom are still friends to this day.. anyway, my mom started studying.

My Grandfather was a pioneer (Colpreteur-not sure spelling) in the 30's, selling religion through Southern Africa, not so sure of his story.
Met Gran on his travels. Married, settled down, and my father was a good little JW with his brother. As a young adult my dad left home to work in Johannesburg and then faded fast. Met and married a sunday school teacher. (can you believe this?) She had no impact on his views.
I was born and he decided he must not withhold the 'truth' from his offspring.
Back into the Borg he went and he dragged mom and I with him.
Mom and pop is still in.
I escaped.

Has anyone got anything positive from the WT organisation?
by BloominMarvellous ineveryone seems to just hate the wt.. i am very upset with the way ive been treated but i dont hate them.. they have given me huge self confidence after helping me out of depression, although i have a fab counsellor, so they cant get all the credit.
they have made me independent as well, (i think my ex-study conductor regrets that!
) i suddenly have a mind of my own and am not afraid to use it.. i owe them quite a lot they have really helped me through some bad times but they have created some bad times for me too.

At the time I thought I got lots. True friends that accept you. An orginization that has my best interests at heart. Ehr......not so much after all.
Its hard to think of anything that was permanent. It was just 'valueless things'.
I suppose I could have been in a family that condoned drug use, teen sex, and alchohol abuse, and for that I am thankful.
However there were brothers growing up in similar circumstances as I, and became drug addicts, one had an illigitimate child and my one mate turned out to be gay! Being a JW made no difference to them. They did not become the clean cut sales team as required by the Borg and was cut loose. And I was forced to shun them. I regret that I obeyed that rule.

Maybe Benny was 'tacking' so that it only looks like his prophesies are bogus. In fact he was just lighting candles on opposite sides of the room. He could use the new light explanation as well.
