  while the society have certainly printed much regrettable material i believe it is fair to admit that there was fine material too as was noted by other posters in different threads almost all of us were initially attracted to jws and i trust it often was because of good stuff printed.. one quote from the commentary on the letter of james i found appealing:.

  discussing james 3:17 the book says:.

  the wisdom from above makes a person reasonable, yielding, moderate or forbearing, not fanatical in his zeal .

  Baby gets five transfusions while in the womb

  baby gets five transfusions while in the womb .

  a baby is doing well after undergoing five blood transfusions while still in the womb.. doctors carried out the transfusions after discovering toby panther's blood group was incompatible with his mother.. tina panther had started to produce antibodies which slowly attacked toby's red blood cells, turning him anaemic.. experts put a needle through tina's womb and through toby's tummy into a vein in his liver at london's university college hospital.. each transfusion, which used an ultrasound to guide the needle, risked miscarriage.. miss panther, 39, didn't know until she was five months pregnant that she was going to have a baby.

  Leo Tolstoy letter

  heres a letter a famous russian writer leo tolstoy wrote to his accusers when he was excommunicated from the russian orthodox church.. i find the parallels in the churchs dealings with him remarkably similar to those of the wts when accusing the so-called apostates of being proud, rebellious etc.. ironically, the letter is reproduced in the official web-site of jws in russia ( http://www.jw-russia.org/eng/frames/press.htm).

  to people in russia the wt evidently try to present themselves as fighters for religious freedom and tolerance (whereas making the russian orthodox church appear as enemies for such freedom).

  jws do not acknowledge that their shunning policy is much more unkind than rocs attitude and that they do deny people who disagree with them the same privilege roc denied to tolstoy.. the bold in the text below is mine.. .

  here is one for you.. in matt 24:9 it says **then** you will be persecuted .

  in luke 21:12 it says **before** this you will be persecuted.

  i have my own explaination, but it is quite radical and so.

  Bad Defensive Arguments

  a bozo calling itself "shiningone" recently posted on the h2o board some typically bad arguments supposedly defending the bible.

  i posted a rebuttal to a number of specific points, which is reproduced below.

  guess what the response was.. those familiar with jw teaching will recognize some of the bad defensive arguments.. <hr>.

  Take pride in being organised?

  take pride in organisation?.

  could it be that jehovah gave the law to the israelites not so much as a blessing but also as a curse to teach them that 'organised religion' is not so good after all?.

  jws as an organisation take pride that they are organised, presumably, mirroring gods arrangement with israel (literal israel = fds, gentile supporters = "great crowd", the 'nephinim' and 'sons of the servants of solomon' = jw administration from the number of the other sheep [see wt april 15 1992], 3 yearly festivals = 3 yearly jw conventions and assemblies etc, jewish priestly mediatorship = wt borg (see, i used this word :)).

  thank you for this board i was enjoying many of the posts here for some time.

  being from russia, i also enjoy this melting pot atmosphere of the fearless norse, nonchalant aussies and unostentatious americans and i really do like your britishers jolly good sense of humour.. and then comes slang: i was enjoying deciphering all the btw fyi imo imho acronyms.

  today that i think i understood what lol means i decided to sign in.

  "world headlines" from wire reports:.

  "moscow -- a moscow court on friday threw out a prosecutor's effort to ban jehovah's witnesses in the capital, a decision hailed as a strong move for religious tolerance.. applause and tears broke out amoung the crowd of about 50 people listening to the reading of the decision, which also called for the prosecutor's office to pay $650 to experts called in the case.. 'we are crying tears of happiness,' said a jehovah's witnesses member who did not give her name.
