  while by no means do i support the beatings or religious intolerance, i also do dislike how the wt makes a mob violence case a vehicle for self-promotion -- a tribute to a pr department.. .

  New World Translation Greek Scriptures in Russian

  this summer the wt is releasing their new world translation greek scriptures in russian.

  i have known this for a while but obtained a copy only today.

  since there is no full nwt in russian yet, the old testament is taken from traditional russian synodal version in one volume with new testament in the nwt rendering.. the first impression is that this is quite a fresh translation as compared with the most widely used russian version that uses archaic words and expressions and that is perhaps stylistically similar to english king james version.. jehovah is used 237 instances, as in the english variant of nwt.

  moscow (ap) - a moscow court has dismissed an appeal by prosecutors seeking to shut down a russian office of the los angeles-based church of scientology, the group's lawyer said friday.. prosecutors had accused the group of conducting illegal business activities, the interfax news agency reported.. moscow's northeastern circuit court rejected the charges against the humanitarian hubbard center in a ruling tuesday, but prosecutors appealed, said lawyer galina krylova.

  russian court orders registration of jehovahs witnesses in kabardino-balkaria .

  on 24 april 2001, a judge in southern russia ordered the department of justice in kabardino-balkaria to register three congregations of jehovahs witnesses.

  this republic, with a mixed orthodox and muslim population, is close to chechnya and the republic of georgia and is part of the russian federation.

  while the society have certainly printed much regrettable material i believe it is fair to admit that there was fine material too as was noted by other posters in different threads almost all of us were initially attracted to jws and i trust it often was because of good stuff printed.. one quote from the commentary on the letter of james i found appealing:.

  discussing james 3:17 the book says:.

  the wisdom from above makes a person reasonable, yielding, moderate or forbearing, not fanatical in his zeal .

  a baby is doing well after undergoing five blood transfusions while still in the womb.. doctors carried out the transfusions after discovering toby panther's blood group was incompatible with his mother.. tina panther had started to produce antibodies which slowly attacked toby's red blood cells, turning him anaemic.. experts put a needle through tina's womb and through toby's tummy into a vein in his liver at london's university college hospital.. each transfusion, which used an ultrasound to guide the needle, risked miscarriage.. miss panther, 39, didn't know until she was five months pregnant that she was going to have a baby.

  Leo Tolstoy letter

  heres a letter a famous russian writer leo tolstoy wrote to his accusers when he was excommunicated from the russian orthodox church.. i find the parallels in the churchs dealings with him remarkably similar to those of the wts when accusing the so-called apostates of being proud, rebellious etc.. ironically, the letter is reproduced in the official web-site of jws in russia ( http://www.jw-russia.org/eng/frames/press.htm).

  to people in russia the wt evidently try to present themselves as fighters for religious freedom and tolerance (whereas making the russian orthodox church appear as enemies for such freedom).

  jws do not acknowledge that their shunning policy is much more unkind than rocs attitude and that they do deny people who disagree with them the same privilege roc denied to tolstoy.. the bold in the text below is mine.. .

  Take pride in being organised?

  take pride in organisation?.

  could it be that jehovah gave the law to the israelites not so much as a blessing but also as a curse to teach them that 'organised religion' is not so good after all?.

  jws as an organisation take pride that they are organised, presumably, mirroring gods arrangement with israel (literal israel = fds, gentile supporters = "great crowd", the 'nephinim' and 'sons of the servants of solomon' = jw administration from the number of the other sheep [see wt april 15 1992], 3 yearly festivals = 3 yearly jw conventions and assemblies etc, jewish priestly mediatorship = wt borg (see, i used this word :)).

  thank you for this board i was enjoying many of the posts here for some time.

  being from russia, i also enjoy this melting pot atmosphere of the fearless norse, nonchalant aussies and unostentatious americans and i really do like your britishers jolly good sense of humour.. and then comes slang: i was enjoying deciphering all the btw fyi imo imho acronyms.

  today that i think i understood what lol means i decided to sign in.
