I would love to read about the criminals that will obey the existing and future gun laws.
Criminals are law breakers who break a society's social contract(s), and a society will deal with said criminals. Laws are not meant for criminals. Having a gun does guarantee the some nut won't just go kill people anyway and kill the poorly or well trained gun own who tried to defend himself but was bested by the perps use of body armor. (which did happen in an infamous LA bank robbery where the police couldn't handle the perps who bested them with heavy body armor) Gun laws are not for them. These laws are there to hopefully cease, and or make it official that a behavior is unacceptable. If you want to remain a responsible member of society; you will obey the law. If you don't you are a criminal.
No, law will ever stop all criminals from comiting a crime, neither can the gun in the hand of the law abiding.

Being a reformed guns are necessary for freedom, screw business regulations republican wacko in a former life.
I have to say it's time for tighter firearm regulation. Seeing as Greenspan recently saying he was wrong about free market regulating themselves and a large amount of economist sounding the death knell of Friedmanomics. Maybe, a few more gun laws won't hurt the US much at all.

Something happened and that cannot be denied. All that matters is that people believe he existed and try to follow the message that is ascribed to him.
You miss the point history and current events are littered with atrocities caused by Jesus' followers in order to spread his message. (Abraham's followers make up a good bit of the rest) Which by the way was nothing knew even in Jesus supposed day. Jesus teachings are very similar to those of Buddhism. Which predates Jesus by 700 years. With the gradual migration of info west after the conquest of Alexander you can reach a plausible conclusion that the historical Yeshua very well might have been spreading Buddhist teachings.

they almost always however claim that their beliefs are "backed by evidence" ; "overwhelming evidence" etc, etc, etc, etc, repeat, etc, repeat, etc.. (their beliefs generally tend to include whatever is necessary to believe in to intellectually "explain" the world without needing god).

I think most misunderstand what an atheist is; one who lacks a theology. You don't believe in Norse mythology so the makes you a Norman atheist.
The main problem with the argument most make for supporting god is that their god exist and their ideas (theology) is 100% correct about him.
An extra dimensional being with the power to create things from thin air may exist; it would be hard, and possibly impossible to prove that though. Also, one thing is certain man's past ideas about God or the god's were wrong, and are not supported by the evidence at hand.

Bush was a moderate that made himself into a conservative.
Arguably Bush was and is a liberal. Most neocons are, they are just leftist that believe government should help the top not the bottom. Which is the way the Republican party governed from the time they took power in 1994 right up until they lost power in 2006.
