Money cannot buy happiness but it sure can make being miserable a lot easier.

I second that!
it's not that simple of course but i would certainly appreciate the freedom and time that cash in the bank would give me.
.
how about you?.

i was watching some program on the inquisition.
you know that thing christianity would love for you to forget happened.. when the court system of rome failed the christian courts took over they instituted trial by ordeal.. simply put any accused of a crime would be tortured tested to see if they were innocent by many forms of painful test to see if god would come to the accused's defence.
if they were innocent then no harm would happen to them because of their faith, of course pretty much 100% of the time they were hurt an were summarily executed punished with all the love of jesus in mind.. atheist should due the same accuse all of christians of crimes and force them into trial by ordeal to prove their innocence and backed by god.
Sarcasm totally intended but getting a christian to voluntarily hold his hand over a candle's flame for a minute to prove his innocence and full faith in Jesus Christ is a lovely idea. I doubt most would even try in which you have them stuck.
And for those that do it would discipline them ( seeing as torture corporal discipline is OK to some christians anyway ) to see reason or at least the idiocy of believing god will protect you from harm when you face a trial.

Atheist should due the same accuse all of Christians of crimes and force them into trial by ordeal to prove their innocence and backed by god. Which of course most of the idiotic faithful Christians will do it just to prove atheist wrong for once and show they have true faith in Jesus.
Then hopefully after they have recovered from what ever test they received with their ego in check understand why facts not faith are proof of what is real in this world we live in. Also maybe then we might finally put religion behind us in the west.
over the last two years, as i moved back to the catholic church, i have been confronted with objections by several people regarding certain catholic teachings.
these concerns are almost always the same, and are founded in mythology created by the watchtower society, and some evangelical denominations.
god can and does use fallible men to do infallible things?
Funny this dispelling of watchtower myth also kind of flies in the face of the RCC's history.
Though I do agree the watchtower is anti-catholic to a hypocritcal fault.
how long will religions claiming to worship god - tolerate the abuse of children , and try to hide it ?
catholics, jehovah's witnesses, mormons - my wife and i discussed it and i'm starting to feel that there is something about the stunted views of religions about sex in general that creates these monsters of sexual child abuse !
do we not just hear about the non-religious child abusers ?
I would disagree. Abuse is abuse - if members understand that a specific room is used for physical punishment of it's members, it doesn't matter if they live in it or not. The fact that it exists for the purpose of punishment, the fact that it is used and seen to be used, heard to be used, if a stick or paddle is inside the door of a room for the purpose of punishment - then every member who attends the hall, who congregates there knowingly and willingly, who accepts that room and punishment as normal and usual - they are guilty. Living there has nothing to do with the issue. If you believe that every child within that compound is at risk for some sort of abuse - wether or not the abuse has happened - then it is reasonable to believe that every child within a KH is at risk for some sort of abuse if there is a room for punishment - wether or not that punishment has yet happened to them. Thats my thought anyway - many would disagree ..sammieswife.
OK Like I said no is living at a Hall besides the occasional CO. These people were living at the hall so to speak.
The only way for this to become anything close to that would be for witnesses to move to Bethel with said spanking room.
Secondly if CPS can prove there is a danger at a hall to a judge and you keep going to the hall you are putting your child in danger and can have them removed from your custody.
(better example) A mother takes a child to her work a house of ill repute do to the fact she can not find a baby sitter for work. If CPS were to find out about that what do you think her chances of keeping the child. Even though she has no intention of letting them be harmed. If the police bust the house CPS might take the kids it's CPS's discretion if they think the mother had extenuating circumstances they might let her keep it. If it happens again CPS won't have much choice left, do to the history of the parents behavior.
many who leave the witnesses go on to affirm other recognisable sets of beliefs.
some become christians of various sorts, others tend toward patriotism as a kind of rejection of the anti-patriotic stance of the watchtower, while yet more simply affirm in general the secular values of mainstream society.
do you believe jehovah's witnesses are wrong?
Slim you are just having a hard time letting go.
You don't believe in nothing, you have just stop believing them. The proof is in the lies and inconsistencies they pass off as facts holding up a book of myths as proof they are true and not inconsistant. Despite the fact that same book is the best proof they are wrong.how long will religions claiming to worship god - tolerate the abuse of children , and try to hide it ?

This forum just had a topic on 'spanking rooms'. If physical punishment to this extent is known or has been known to exist inside the Kingdom Halls and we all know who is abusing those kids, then imagine yourself sitting in that Kingdom Hall with your 2 kids and suddenly being surround by armed guards and armoured vehicles and forcibly removing your kids from you. You would believe that the great persecution is upon you now and that would have been proof of your truth. You would have been perhaps a tad puzzled as to why corporal punishment was an issue.
One problem with that would be no one lives at a kingdom hall. Two If a raid did happen and you knew there was a danger of abuse and you were knowingly exposing your kids to it. You should lose your kids and have to prove you are fit parent.
Like I said on another thread CPS does not have to prove a crime just the child is in danger. Which in the case of the Mormon compound was obvious and easy. Your scenario would be harder to prove a danger to the child but if they did, I would support their removal.
Notice in both instances a judge must be consulted before an action ( the removal ) can happen. Which puts it firmly in the realm of constitutionality.
what are some words or phrases that people outside of the usa find amusing or interesting?
You know I find Americans seem to Hollywood-ise their speech. Like naming the terrorism attack "9-11" See if that happened in Australia they would probably be referred to as "the terrorist attacks" or something. The weird thing about the term 9-11 is that in just about every other part of the world the date 9-11 is actually the 9th of November.
That is why still have in the back of my mind it was planed that way to have the most impact for political gain.
9-11 is the emergency phone number in the states to call the Police and Fire rescue.
Police and Fire are the only that are remembered in the popular mind on the day.
The date also had some past minor historical significance.
1776 - British-American peace conference on Staten Island fails to stop nascent American Revolution.
1973 - A CIA backed coup in Chile headed by GeneralAugusto Pinochet topples the democratically elected PresidentSalvador Allende. Pinochet remains in power for almost 17 years.
1990 - U.S. PresidentGeorge H. W. Bush delivers a nationally televised speech in which he threatens the use of force to remove Iraqi soldiers from Kuwait, which Iraq had recently invaded. He mentions the term "New World Order" in this speech for the first time, which is also named "Towards a New World Order".(full text of the speech)

Then, go after and prosecute EVERY SINGLE ADULT MALE, NOT ONLY IN TEXAS, BUT IN THE WHOLE COUNTRY, WHO HAVE IMPREGNATED ANY MINOR GIRL.
They do prosecute every one they catch. They caught these sick bastards red handed, so they will pay too.
in january i posted about what is going on to cost of things in america.
now, gasoline is almost 4.00/gal and food items continue to soar?
what is going on?!!!!!!!!.
1) Say F-U to the environmental wackos and drill for oil in Anwar. Pull that oil out of ground like it's going out of style.
Then see how fast gas goes down when supply goes up.
2) Say F-U to the environmental wackos and lets us (USA) build nuclear facilities.
In short... I'm not worried about it.
Because the U.S. has the raw materials to get through this.
There's an amazing amount of oil in Anwar. But the U.S. law doesn't allow us to drill for it.
But you watch. As soon as we have to eat rats for dinner? Even the enviromental wacko's will suddenly think it's a good idea to drill.
Confucious
Drilling in ANWAR is a band-aid at best.
You want a nuke in your back yard I doubt it. The industry still can't insure it's self. Plus it is dependant on coal plants and fossil fueled vehicles to dig refine and deliver the fuel. Then we come to fuel disposal which there is non. The best guess so far is to sit in a cave for millions of years. Great idea until there is an incident.
Embrace the environmental wackos the have been right so far. Buy smaller cars, use less, and get over it.
