Iraq's biggest mistake, was invading Kuwait its second biggest mistake was thinking that George W wouldn't invade.
Which the US green lighted ( Remember Saddam had to ask first and he did like a good puppet, the cold war was totally over then ) and then Bush Sr. used that to scare the Saudi's who then called Bush Sr's bluff and made the US attack Iraq.

If you had a choice, to be a slave and live on your knees for the rest of your life or to bomb another country what would you choose. Enjoying American freedom you may say it does not come to that. But it does. Given the opportunity another country will bomb subjugate the US for it own good and so it it so sad the world is like this but it is better to be the ones bombing than the ones being bombed. It is very sad and wrong but that is the way the world is.
The Irony is we still get bombed 9/11, OKC, WTC in the 90s, abortion clinics. The problem is that we enslave not that we can be enslaved. If we enslave than we are no better and will be destroyed just like those that would enslave us and have enslaved us in the past.
Countries like the US and Israel are slowly becoming worse than their past enemies. If they don't stop soon they will become like their past enemies hated and killed with little remorse and with little defence from third parties.
i apologize in advance to those i may offend, but are some movies i've always thought were way overrated:.
apocalypse now- a three-hour boat ride (four if you watch the director's cut) with occasional shooting.

"Return of the King" was the most undeserving Best Picture since "The Sound of Music". As brutal as the film was, "Mystic River" should have won. Of the nominees, I liked "Seabiscuit" better, but "Mystic River" was outstanding and the better film.
I am waiting for a Japanese studio to pick up Tolkien and make an anime version. LOTR lends it self better to anime, in that anime doesn't have to fit a time length it can be ten hours if need be not just three also it is much cheaper and the only to do certain things from literature.

Also, more British soldiers have been killed in Iraq by American friendly fire than killed by Iraqi's.
Usually by an A-10 straffing run.

Technology has changed how aerial bombing is used in modern war. More precision bombing has resulted in less indiscriminate bombing. The first Iraq war was a prime example. A historical perspective may help your son not to become hysterical.
No, it hasn't the real numbers show the smart bombs aren't performing any better then their dumb bomb cousins except in one area, pilot survability. You can drop bombs at higher altitudes but that doesn't change the fact you dropped 500- 2000 pound bomb in a city collapsing a building, or buildings. Which does the killing. Then add an intelligence failure and a wrong building being hit it adds up quick. Which the US does a pretty good job of not telling it's civilians that at least 30% of bombs don't hit their targets and kill innocents bystanders.
In fact one of the first smart bombs dropped during the Iraq war missed and hit civilians.

Before the decision was made to drop the nukes on Japan, both sides were preparing for the invasion of Japan, and predicted losses on each side were astronomical. Dropping the two bombs led to the surrender of japan and saved hundreds of thousands if not millions of lives from both sides. Then those evil, wicked Americans went into japan and rebuilt it, so that today it is an economic powerhouse and the people are free of the feudal system that sat on their shoulders before the war. America also dropped tons -- yes, TONS -- of bombs on Germany during WWII in an effort to help preserve the liberty of some allies on some islands north of France. Teach your kids to say "Danke schön, Amerika!"
You still buy that story. First the Japanese were trying to surrender the USA wouldn't agree to the terms. Second Japan was bombed to ruin before the bombs were dropped on two cites that had been sparred bombing in order to test the effect of the bombs on a cities. Third we can thank the Soviets the day Japan surrendered was the day the Soviets entered Manchuria and Japan's last sticking point for unconditional surrender was rendered moot.

I didn't say LOTR was bad. I said it wasn't as good as the fan boys said it was. POTC was based on a park ride, so the fact that is was decent heck sometimes good movie series is a miracle. Which makes LOTR look that much more over rated do to the fact LOTR was based on a master piece of literature, yet wasn't any better put together than pirates.
Deffiantly wasn't Oscar worthy IMO.
