as many of us have said, the anti-war posters have their views, and the pro-war posters have theirs, and regardless of anyones opinion, a war with iraq is inevitable.

oh come now, surely youve heard more ridiculous statements than that, sometime in your entire life.

Why don't you look up and see how many millions of innocent civilians have been killed by the US in Iraq, because of blocking billions in UN aid to the Iraqi people.

first off, that blood is on saddams hands.....if he gave a damn about his own people, he couldve prevented any aid blocking, and perhaps spared himself one or two of his palaces in order to feed a few hundred thousand people or so. secondly, why dont you look up and see how many innocent iraqi civilians have been killed, directly by saddam himself. imagine saddam stays in power for another 20 years, and do the math on how many more he will kill, personally (if the war is prevented, as lucy said). now take that number to zero if hes taken out of power.

as a scientist one has to take all the available evidence and then come up with the most reasonable conclusion. i try to do that.
hussein has shown a very keen sense of how to survive as a leader for the last 30 years or so. he is longer in office than any other current dictator despite vivid opposition to him. i don't see how a suicidal maniac could be that successful.

so "all the available evidence" is just that hes been a leader for 30 years.....okay. we will leave the whole kuwait issue out of the "available evidence" pile then. you say you dont see how a maniac could be that successful? its pretty simple really. any iraqi that opposes saddam, in any way shape or form, is tortured and/or killed, and the same goes for their family members. makes for a pretty stong presidential campaign, doesnt it?

hence i would conclude he was either misinformed about kuwait or he didn't see it as a threat to his rulership.

he was misinformed? youve been telling us how intelligent this longtime leader is, and with an issue as big as invading a neighboring country, he was simply misinformed? hmmm. or theres your other option.....he didnt see the wrath of the united states (and the rest of the world for that matter) "as a threat to his rulership". hmmm......both of these choices leaves one to believe maybe all his marbles arent there after all? but no, hes perfectly logical....it was just a minor oversight, lol.

this is the problem with your argument. youve claimed all along that saddam isnt suicidal, and he is nothing short of 100% logical....yet when you are faced with obvious proof that he indeed was very illogical, and suicidal, with his decisions about kuwait, all you can say is "i dont know why" he did that. unfortunately, "i dont know" isnt a very good stance, and this one point really disproves all your positions about saddam as a person. hes PROVEN himself to be illogical and suicidal, and unless you know something we dont about some serious soul searching hes made since then, we can assume he STILL IS. you can say "no hes not" all you want, but you have no evidence of this, thus your argument is null. until you can show some proof of why you believe he is a completely different person now than he was during the gulf war, its only your personal opinion with no backing.

I can't understand how thick you people are. Just because someone believes the US has NO BUSINESS AT ALL interfering in other country's business does not mean they SUPPORT that other country in any way.

surely you know my post was in jest. even so, one could stand up against war (what they believe in) without supporting the other country in any way. id guess some of the fanaticals who are actually doing this have no love for the iraqi people either, they are just against us attacking them.

as far as support goes though, many on this board, yourself included, have indeed shown support for saddams right to be in power, and his right to defend his nation with nuclear weapons.

What is the Federation's golden rule? The Prime Directive? You don't interfere in the development of other cultures PERIOD.

not that fiction should be our guide, but since you brought it up............ how many times has the prime directive been broken by enterprise captains in order to save lives (not to mention severly bent)? picard had no problem breaking it to save wesley crusher. they always fret over it, but in the end make the right decision of course. not an easy decision, but sometimes intervention is the right one.
