Is JWD #1.....My Therapist....his first advice on JW's, me, and divorce
by oompa ini have told my new therapist so much about jwd, some of the insightful comments here, and how much it has helped me and other dubs that we both now wonder if there are other jw help sites.
i really don't know as this was the first and only one i ever found, and it was just what i needed.. he has pegged me well as impatient, and knows i was vocal about my wake-up from jw.
his advice right now is to back off totally on trying to help any others, and i have told him that many here have said no one will wake-up until they want to for some reason.

You need to decide for yourself, but I would look very cautiously at his advice to divorce, especially with children in the picture. Try really hard to look ahead and envision what it will be like for everyone including your kids if you divorce.
Just something to think about, good luck on starting a new life w/o the controlling influence of JWs.

I like anything that reflects your local culture. Something as simple as a special sauce made locally or a piece of jewelry made by a local craftsperson. I prefer not to receive anything you can pick up at your local Wal-Mart. :)

I'll participate. I agree with Restrangled. I think if you didn't follow through last year, you should not be allowed to sign up this year. (Not saying mine didn't, just in general.)
I had so much fun shopping for my SS last year and it was great hearing that it brought joy into their life. Can't wait to participate again!

They have even taken away the tooth fairy
by jambon1 ini have just ben told by my jw wife that my daughter will not be able to get a penny for her very 1st wobbly tooth, presumably because the belief in fairys may be damaging to her.
on the other hand, it is ok for 100 adults to discuss in front of my wee 5 year old, matters relating to oral sex in a sunday morning wt study.
absolute bastards.

Yeah, no tooth fairy came when I was a child. I'd like to say that it bothered me, but after being denied Christmas and birthdays, the tooth fairy wasn't even registering on the scale.
Do you know how fun it is to play this game with your children when you didn't get to have it? I'm having so much fun, and I having been giving a dollar/tooth.

calgary/am770chqr - the father of a calgary jehovah's witnesses teen who died after refusing blood transfusions has won a partial victory in the alberta court of appeal.. the province's highest court has ruled that lawrence hughes should not have been removed as an administrator of his late daughter's estate.. the court has also restored his lawsuit on behalf of the estate alleging the watchtower society and its lawyers used mis-representation and deceit to convince his 16-year-old daughter bethany chemotherapy and blood transfusions would not help cure her cancer and were experimental.. however, the appeal court upheld the trial judges dismisal of hughes' other claims including conflict of interest, undue influence and conspiracy.

If They Weren't a Cult Before.....
by AllTimeJeff ini just wanted to officially change something on my viewpoint.
i have thought about this for a few days.
i used to think that while they were in some ways controlling, that jw's did not meet the criteria of a cult totally.

Reading this put fear in my heart. I think of my loved ones and how much they obey the direction from the WT hook line and and sinker. I have to honestly ask this question, and I would love your opinion on it. What happens if it gets so controlling that they are able to convince the flock that they need to kill themselves? Where is the line when they refuse to ask "Why?" and are considered traitors if they do? After seeing what the WTS will do to hide their mess ups I now worry that they would rather see everyone die than admit that they were wrong.

The sad thing is that within the next couple of days, because of the being exposed in the media, the PR people at the headquarters will have him DFed and then the perfect little bubble will be restored. All is well in Stepford society. Anytime anything ugly manages to escape to public knowledge, the PR people quickly act to show that they are taking care of it and all is well. That is why I really wish that the documents that Barbara published is used to show the world that this is not an isolated incident of coverup. This is an ungoing concerted effort to maintain this image of JW's being a crag from the storm of Satan's world.
Someone's mom in this thread commented on how JWs are picked on. Here is the reason: If you condemn everyone else and then it is found out that you are guilty of what you just condemned, you are a big ol' HYPOCRITE. Remember Ted Haggard?? Sat in front of everyone and told them how terrible homosexuality was? Same situation. Take a look at the big tract campaign last fall and then try and say the same thing about being "picked on."
Also, I could care less whether this guy is a MS or not, if his pedo ways were kept hidden from the congregation that is all that matters. He was allowed to use the KH/JWs are a way to get into a trusting relationship with children. That is sick.

What Positive Things Have You Achieved Since Leaving?
by sweet pea inpurps' wonderful thread about love made me wonder about something else.
what have you achieved/become since leaving the organisation that proves there is a happy, successful life outside being a jehovah's witness?
for me, although it's only been a very short time, too short to achieve much, i count becoming: non-judgemental of my fellow man; a mum that can give her kids all the room to grow and blossom without fear of 'sinning' or being kicked out for bad behaviour; a person that can feel comfortable worshipping in a church or not, depending on whatever i feel like doing; someone who can love and give freely and celebrate life in all it's glory (i just love birthdays!

Although it is and has been painful leaving, there are so many, many, upsides and I feel that this is just the beginning.... Who knows, maybe one day I'll become a brain surgeon or an outer space traveller. LOL.
How about you guys and gals?I could have written your post almost word for word.
I'm having the best time enjoying life with a whole new attitude. I no longer have this cloud of dread hanging over my life. The world is a beautiful place filled with mostly good people. We all are trying to watch out for ourselves, and that doesn't make us bad, it makes us smart and realistic.
I've been able to go back to school. I've got a successful business. My children are fully intergrated into life and friends, they are enjoying their childhoods completely.
I'm happy.
