"I've seen some of the fixer uppers that a couple of JWs have. They never fixed them up! Can't cuz wife didn't work and pioneered full time" Well, that's the whole point, didn't you know? You are not supposed to fix them up because that would take time away from Jehovah.

Emily,
There are so many things wrong with this picture that I don't even know where to start. So I am not going to. I am just going to say that you need to run in the opposite direction as fast as you can, and while you are running, stop off somewhere for counseling to find out why you would be attracted to someone who would treat you so badly. And don't get involved with anyone else until you have learned the answer to that question and can make a better decision on the man in your life. You deserve much better than this.
This guy would be a poor choice even if he was not a JW. He is sick on so many levels.

An Assembly "Experience"-and the rest of the story
by CaptainSchmideo ina brother was on the program for the saturday afternoon session as one of those "life experiences" interviews.
tells the tale about how he left a lucrative, well paying position to "help where the need was greater.
" moved from a major metropolitan area to a congregation in the rurals, was told by managers that the job he was going to was "a dead end".

Some years ago, I was asked to be on a part at the circuit assembly promoting the pioneer assist program. Of course, I was the weak publisher who needed to be assisted. When we went to learn and practice the part, I realized right away that it was being presented in a salesman-like way, very manipulative. The pioneer who assisted me just didn't get it. She had her own things she wanted to say and the brother told her no, this is what you are going to say. I could really recognize the salesmanship because I had read books about salesmanship that my husband had. This was a real eye-opener for me, but at the time I felt the ends justified the means. From that time on, I could really recognize this in the KH meetings. It finally just got disgusting to me. I think the clincher was a district convention where they talked to a little kid about how he had the opportunity to come home from school and play inappropriate video games while no one else was in the house and because of his loyalty to Jehovah, he did not. He used the expression "It was calling my name" and everyone in the convention hall laughed at how cute he was, but to me it was not cute. It was contrived and manipulative.
Funny thing about that pioneer sister who was on the part promoting the pioneer assist program with me. She did not like me and the things she wanted to say in this part made that clear. She actually did get some of them in during the assembly part. She said something like you have to do what Jehovah wants even if you don't like it. But she said enough of what she was told that it was a sales part.

What's the latest WTS position on surgical birth control?
by Gregor inyou know, vasectomies (require masturbation), tubal ligations, are these a "matter of conscience" (but you better do what we suggest)?

There was a question from the readers within the last four to five years that said it was no longer a conscience decision. It used the scripture in Psalms about children being a gift from Jehovah and said that sterilization was no longer allowed, but that anyone who had it done prior to this understanding (new light - gag, gag) should not be punished for it.
I know of other witnesses besides myself who had a problem with this edict and felt it was way out of line. I was pretty vocal about it to some people and found there were many who agreed with me that it was no one's business but the people involved.

I understood that an apostate in the eyes of the J-dubs is someone who was a baptized, card-carrying J-Dub who now no longer believes their teachings. My sister said that the Revelation book says that they must also be preaching or talking against the J-dubs to be an apostate.
My nephew decided in his teens that he did not want to go to the KH any more and was never baptized. He got involved for a while with the Wiccan group his father was part of, but eventually left that also. He is 22 years old now and has a wife and 2 year old son. He does not make enough money for them to live on their own (never went to college or technical school because my sister discouraged any of her kids from getting higher education due to the WT dictates), so they live in my sister's house. The elders in her congregation told her that my nephew is an apostate and that she needed to make him and his family move out. What the F....???? ............and do what? live in the street with a 2 year old child. I told my sister he does not meet the definition of an apostate and she agrees with that.
It amazes me that I stayed with the idiocy as long as I did when I look at all the unkind, unloving things they either do or try to perpetrate on other people.

Well, I was talking about the donations JW's make at the Kingdom Hall. I think most JW's do not ask for a donation at the door, too embarrassing. I sure never did. I just put a set amount in the contribution box each month for the worldwide work, as well as a set amount for local needs.

Somehow this just does not sound like a JW. For one thing, they do not sell their books. Also, it says he was selling them to pay for his religious education, which JW's do not pay for their religious education. Well, they do in that they invest time and dollars into gas for the ministry, money for conventions, and all those donations, but nothing like a tuition up front or whatever they were referring to in this story. Also, the guy from his church said they still believed in God. A JW would have taken the opportunity to expound on Jehovah.
Dry lightning is a very dangerous thing. My oldest brother was killed at the age of 26 in 1968 by dry lightning.

Enjoy your new bike - they're great fun.

Anyone's doctor force their hand about being listed as a JW?
by Mysterious ini remember when i was in high school i went to the doctor about something completely unrelated to surgery or blood and as a matter of updating my medical records he made a point of listing me as a jw on it.
he never asked me if he could / should and i was in no position to object in front of my mother without explaining myself.
not to mention i would look wishy washy about my faith in front of the doctor.

I am aware that she very likely would make it her business and the business of the local elders. That has been a concern to me because I know that there are witnesses that work in all the area hospitals, and that there are two working in registration in two of the hospitals. The only reason I would not want this to come out is because I do not want my elderly mother and my sister to feel they cannot talk to me any more. Once my mother passes away, I will not be as careful as I am now. In fact, I will not be careful at all. I will do whatever I want, including decorating for holidays and maybe attending church with my husband. But I do know that if she was a witness, this may come back to bite me in the butt. But I still have to change this information. I would accept a blood transfusion now, and I don't want my witness relatives able to discuss my medical care and finding out about something like that. Not that I have had one, but if the need should arise, I will certainly do so.

what was the strangest/worst counsel you recieved from elders ?
by flipper inhaving been in the organization for 30 years, after i got out i reflected on this.
as a teenager i was told to not let my hair grow over my ears because i might stumble other young ones in the congregation.
also, in order to carry the microphones i was told i couldn't wear white socks, had to wear black or dark blue socks.

I was counseled back in the early 70's about the length of my skirt. It came to about half an inch above my knees. The elder told me it was too short and that he expected me of all people to set an example for the other young ones in the organization. So I let out the tiny hem that was in the skirt as far as it would go. Then I got really mad and took the hem back up even higher than it had been before.
That same elder found out I had gone out on a date with a "worldly" man, so he came to talk to me about it. I told him there just weren't that many guys around in the "truth" and that the ones who were around were taken and he said "it sounds like sour grapes to me". Just remembering the angry way he spoke to me about both these things makes me angry to this day.
