40 years on - and still in Damage Control mode!
by Bungi Bill inearlier this morning, i posted off to the the institute of engineers an application for membership as an "engineering associate":.
- today being just over 40 years since the congregation's retards elders made me abandon my apprenticeship.. (in this part of the world, the pre-1975 hype was taken to that level.
not being content to prevent young persons attending university, they went one step further and treated with hostility any youngster who would "tie up five years of their lives" by entering into an apprenticeship.

Best of luck to you! So many of us have regrets about following what the Watchtower Society wanted.

Around Memorial time this year, I stated to my nephew on Facebook that my sister was brainwashed. Stupid me putting that on a public forum! He was offended because she continues to invite him to the Memorial even though he has PTSD from his JW experiences growing up. She pooh-poohs this as the cause of his PTSD, thereby negating his feelings.
Yesterday I found out that some helpful soul had repeated this comment to my sister. She is not on Facebook because she is married to an uber elder who does everything by the book, therefore she does, too, and I suppose it is still recommended they do not get on Facebook. So she is offended.
Brainwashing by Merriam-Webster dictionary - "Persuasion by propaganda or salesmanship." This is the secondary definition. The first one is "a forcible indoctrination to induce someone to give up basic political, social, or religious beliefs and attitudes and to accept contrasting regimented ideas". I apply the second definition of brainwashed to her because she, like me, is a born-in so she did not give up any other beliefs or attitudes to accept the WT indoctrination.
She and I talk very little - maybe 3 or 4 times a year and do not spend any time together. Her life is filled with all things WT and mine is filled with my family - husband, kids and grandkids - and living life. Our younger sister is the one she told about me saying this and I know our younger sister would like me to apologize or reach out in some way, but I am not inclined to do so. I think it is unfortunate that this was repeated to her and I regret that I was so foolish as to put this opinion up in a social forum, but there it is, done and over. I am sorry she is offended, but not for what I said.

I have just recently read two novels about Mormon families, The 19th Wife and The Bishop's Wife. They were fiction, but The 19th Wife also included a lot of historical information regarding polygamy and how the Mormon church came to finally officially rejecting that doctrine. Both gave a lot of insight into how their religion affects, in fact consumes, their personal lives and some of the incredible beliefs they have which are swallowed hook, line and sinker by the membership. I could see a lot of similarities between them and Jehovah's witnesses. Definitely they are both mind control cults.

They might be driving me nuts
by stillin inthe "boasting session" last night included forcing the congregation to watch that stupid witnessing cart video.
then the brother handling the part discusses what a "powerful witness" is being given each time those carts roll out into public view.. experiences: had a nice conversation with a young man.
a woman took a tract.

Powerful witness is nothing more than a sound bite. These people are so deluded. -

I've just been disfellowshipped!
by maksutov inapparently it was announced last night.
i was not informed (for 'legal reasons'), but they phoned my dad and told him.
i understand it is due to my apostate book.

Amazing how they think they have the right to do this after you have been away for five years. And did not inform you for legal reasons, whatever they may have been. I hope your family does not shun you, particularly if you have been close with them. But being out is the best thing you could have ever done for your family. Best wishes to you. -

what does delivering magazines have to do with skills in a ministry?.
"many people who enjoy reading our magazines do not wish to study the bible with us.".

Visit from J-dub elders after 8 years of not attending.
by mimimimi ini have not been on this forum for a long time - have just been living my life out from under the watchtower cloud and enjoying it greatly.
some dubs avert their eyes and ignore me in public.
some still speak and are friendly.

Thanks, Doc, for responding. No ex-spouses out there. My husband is a born and raised Catholic. I have kept a low profile and not stirred any shit because I still have family in and though we don't see each other much, I like to maintain good relations with them. Must just be the emphasis on reactivating inactive ones. News for them, I am waaaay beyond inactive. Life is good!!!

I have not been on this forum for a long time - have just been living my life out from under the Watchtower cloud and enjoying it greatly. Some dubs avert their eyes and ignore me in public. Some still speak and are friendly. I am aware that word is out and has been for a while that I do not believe in it any more. A couple of weeks ago at the grocery store I ran into a J-dub I have known since teenage years (I am 62 now) - used to be very good friends. She was friendly, spoke to me briefly - how was I? told me about her gastric bypass - that sort of thing. Then out of the clear blue sky after all these years i get a call on Saturday from two J-dub gentlemen - one I know is an elder - we have known each other since teenage years also - and I suspect the other is an elder also. I was at work and they spoke to my husband, asking for me. They left the W&A with my husband which I tore up and put in the trash. I wonder if the encounter at the grocery store led to this and what the upshot of it will be. Surely not a witch hunt after all this time.

Still no pant suits, for sisters
by Quarterback ini was watching the cnn this evening..watched hilliary clinton walk towards some dignataries in a foreign land.
i saw that she was well dressed in a pant suit.
she is the us secretary of state, and what she wore was dignified.
-

I read that Hilary Clinton wears pant suits because she has large, unattractive legs. The Watchtower society will never allow women to wear pants. That in itself ought to be enough to make women think negatively about the org. But look at Pentecostal/Assembly of God women. They just eat it up! Can't have short hair, can't have sleeveless tops, have to wear skirts - no pants ever. Where are their brains?
