Several years ago there was a Bethel speaker here for the Memorial. Both of the congregations in town rented space at the local community college for it so they would have room to attend together. Afterward, everyone was saying it was the best Memorial talk they had ever heard and I was thinking "What???" I was not particularly impressed at all and did not think it was anything special.

Special Talk on Saturday @ 3PM?
by Morocco ini was talking to a friend and he said the co (i think) was coming down this saturday for some special talk at 3 pm.
i don't ever recall special talks on a saturday, or as late as 3 pm -- what could it be?
unless i misunderstood that it was the co, maybe it was someone else.

Jesus Camp, the Movie ... Camp shut down!!!
by kwintestal ini posted about the movie back in september here.. well, i just found out that they have decided to shut the camp down for at least a few years due to the movie.
i guess god wasn't as happy with their camp as they thought.

It has been my observation many, many times that JW's cut people off emotionally. So much is expected of everyone and there is only so much of one to go around. Regardless of what they say about being the only religion that shows love, very little of it is ever shown, but they are full of judgmentalness and gossip. I could relate to how you felt after the conversation, shaking all over. It is such a shame that they cannot see how unreasonable they are. Hang in there and love and appreciate the rest of your family who are not J-dubs.

Love your name, too, minimus. Good topic, too. I ignored lots of things the elders and society said. Of course, my husband and kids not being witlesses helped me along that way. I took my kids to the Halloween parade every year and trick-or-treating, too. We watched movies that other witless parents were not letting their children watch. We listened to music together that I am sure the Society would disapprove of - Sublime was a favorite of my youngest son and me. In fact, he is trying to decide which Sublime song to have played for the mother's dance at his wedding reception. We had Easter egg hunts with the lady next door and her little boy.
Oh, and one of the latest things the Society came up with that totally irritated me is that children are a gift from Jehovah, so true Christians are not to get sterilized. Well, I had already had a tubal ligation in 1990, but I was pretty vocal to some people about that piece of moronic garbage. And everyone I talked to about it agreed with me, except my mother, who just listened and made no comment at all. But if I had not yet had a tubal at that time, I still would have.
It was not hard to ignore what they said because so much of it was so stupid.

JW roommate's neice wants to give her JW friend a bridal shower
by oppgirl63 inmy jw roommate's sister (not jw) called her yesterday to ask her if it was okay for her daughter to give her friend who is a jw a bridal shower.
my roommate said that it would be fine as long is it was in good taste.
i was wondering if it would really be okay since they are not jw's.

I have been at JW showers where sexy nighties were given and there was sexual talk and joking going on. My mother and sister, who were in a different cong., went to a shower once where there was a lot of sexual joking going on and the people involved got called on the carpet for it by the elders. I really think what they can get away with depends on the particular congregation they are in. Some congregations are more liberal.

Gee, so nice to know that the latest QFR addresses how wrong it is to drink a toast. My youngest son is getting married January 20 (youngest of three - first one married) (in a Presbyterian church, no less) and all my JW relatives are coming - at least to the reception, I'm not sure if they are up for a church wedding. I am sure there will be toasts drunk that evening. Gee, what do I do here? I've not been to meetings since July or so and they all know I no longer believe. Gee, I think I may have to do WHATEVER I WANT - HA, HA, HA!!!!!

Kidney problems--I'm worried
by Junction-Guy inwell for the past few years i have checked my urine at work ( i work in a medical division of a jail) and i have had intermittent protein in my urine (proteinuria), whenever i would see my doctor he would check my urine, and strangely enough it wasnt showing.
well 2 weeks ago i went to my doctor and he did find protein in my urine this time, he sent me for an ultrasound of my kidneys and bladder this week, but i havent gotten the results back yet, in fact i was too worried to even call the doctor today.
i have researched kidney problems and im worried something is majorly wrong with my kidneys.

Having an upper respiratory infection can also cause protein spillage in the urine sometimes. This is transient.

Shelley is right. It could be a lot of things and can be very correctable. And the fact that it does not show up all the time is good. It could even be caused by working out a lot for a body builder, especially if they are using a protein supplement, and could be considered in a normal range depending upon lean body mass.
